Kalons in Party: Calypso and Eden
Quest Response:

"Oh dear...Eden, we should probably help this poor fellow. His cart seems to be broken." Calypso looked worried at the sight before her. Such beautiful merchandise was scattered all over the road, and had the cart been set up properly, she would definitely buy some of the things she saw. Eden either didn't care, or didn't hear because she cluelessly walked right past the mess, and continued on her way. "Uh, Eden?"

Calypso rushed in front of her friend, who finally looked up. "Wha? Oh, sorry. I was lost in my own thoughts again. Do you think that penguins have knees? I've been stuck wondering that for a while, and I--" she paused. "Why are you giving me that expression? I must have missed something...is it your birthday?!"

"No! Turn around." Eden turned, and was greeted by the pitiful sight.

"Oh dear." Eden finally had caught up. About time.

Calypso walked over to the wreckage and examined it. She looked at the wheel, which was missing a few spokes. How odd. The owner walked up, and thanked her profusely for helping. "Do you know how to fix it?" he asked.

"Eden breaks just about everything she touches, so I'd figure I'd learn how to fix her messes. That is a yes, by the way. I have some ideas." Calypso unhooked her pack, and rummaged through it to see if anything would work. The area that the cart had landed was all rock, with no sight of trees or bushes anywhere, so she would have to use something of her own. Finally, she came across a few bars of metal rod which had been used to set up the tent, which had been completely destroyed over a week ago. These should work, she thought to herself.

Carefully, Calypso measured the new spokes and marked off each one with white chalk of where they would have to be cut. Then, with the markings set, she walked a few paces away, and laced up an explosive contraption by mixing a few of the gases in her pouch. The combination created a liquid which she soaked a piece of string in, and then tied around the locations marked in chalk. Hopefully the gas would hit and combust so precisely, it would crack the metal exactly in the right place.

Now, to give it a shot.

Three...Two...One...KABOOM!

She walked over to examen the work, and was rewarded with three perfectly crafted spokes. The kalon fit them into the wheel, and then screwed the entire contraption back onto the cart. Perfect. Feeling good, she turned and smiled at the owner. "Nice to meet you," she said, happily. "I hope we can see each other again sometime." and continued down the trail, feeling rather accomplished.

Little did she know, that the 'sometime' they would be seeing each other would be sooner than she thought, as Eden still sat on the ground, next to the cart thinking about penguins.

      sawyer's quest

      username:

      kalons in party:
      xxxxxdesiree, flynn, & elle

      quest response:
xxxxxthe party was wandering through the lavalands in pursuit of the fire crystal when desiree noticed the distraught kalon standing on the side of the road. "guys, look!" she said, capturing the attention of flynn and elle. "that man... his cart looks broken..."
xxxxxflynn raised an eyebrow. "how do you know this isn't some sort of ruse?"
xxxxxdesiree rolled her eyes. "gosh, flynn, why do you have to be such a downer all the time? we need to help him!" leaving flynn behind, she grabbed elle by the hand, and left flynn standing alone as she marched over to the forelorn shopkeeper.
xxxxx"hello, sir! do you need any help? we noticed your cart..."
xxxxxthe kalon introduced himself as sawyer, and explained his situation. he seemed a little nervous and on edge -- desiree figured that he was embarrassed about the shape of his cart. "we'll try to fix the wheel! let me go get our other friend; they're good with hands-on stuff," she said, bouncing away.
xxxxxelle was stuck standing awkwardly with sawyer. she wasn't much of a people person, but hearing the kalon lament about how he was stuck in the lavalands, elle felt a pang of sympathy. "hey... i know how you feel. i absolutely hate it here, too. as soon as we find the crystal, i'm out," she said, with a sigh. "every day, i wonder why i even got into this adventuring stuff."
xxxxxmeanwhile, desiree made her way back to flynn. the other kalon huffed. "you're really doing this, huh?"
      xxxxx"yep! and you're helping."
xxxxx"no, i am not," said flynn.
xxxxxdesiree pouted. "you're usually the one who wants to help people instead of screwing around. what's wrong with you?!" she walked away and started picking up pieces of wood that were scattered along the road.
xxxxxflynn trailed behind her. "hey, wait, desiree. don't get mad at me." desiree grumbled something under her breath. flynn caught about three different obscenities in her speech. "i'm serious! i know you're all good-hearted and sweet and whatever, but this is --"
xxxxxthe purple kalon whipped her head around, eyes glaring at flynn. "this is what? what's different about this than any other time we've tried to be good samaritans?"
xxxxx"this is... desiree, this guy might be bad news. pity is the best trick in the book -- i've seen it before. when i was little..." the kalon hesitated. "when i was little, my father used to take me into one of the bigger villages to do some shopping. there were things around there that were harder to find, y'know. but... everywhere you went, there were vendors with injuries. there were men trying to sell things in broken, shoddy carts, claiming that they needed help, that they were just trying to support their families. so, so many of them were pickpockets. i can't tell you all the times my father would throw some spare change in someone's direction, and then they'd beg him to buy a common potion for hundreds and hundred of gems. it's all just one big sales pitch, run on pity."
xxxxxdesiree narrowed her eyes. "okay, so you hate poor people. big deal."
xxxxx"dez, it's not like that!" desiree ignored him, still trying to lift large chunks of wood and pile them together. seeing her struggle, the kalon sighed. "you know what? fine. get all the pieces and i'll fix the wheel. i can use my mace like a hammer of sorts, and i'm sure that elle has nails."
xxxxxit took a while to collect everything, but sure enough, elle had several nails in her bag. "i always make sure we're prepared!" she said. "you two took a long time, though. longer than i'd expect." she squinted. "were you two squabbling?"
xxxxxflynn blushed. "we... it's fine. just hand them over."
xxxxxthey fixed the wheel fairly quickly -- it wasn't perfect looking, but it was the best that flynn could do -- and, with the help of the rest of the party and sawyer, they hoisted the cart onto its side and attached the wheel back where it used to be.
xxxxxflynn rolled their eyes as sawyer thanked the party. they were bracing themself for the attempt to get the party to buy some of his little goodies, but sawyer was surprisingly genuine. "it... it was no problem. don't worry about it, sir."
xxxxxas sawyer started rolling his cart away, making his way out of the lavalands, the party watched him. "he was nice, huh?" said elle. "poor kid. he just wanted a drink with his buddy."
xxxxx"yeah," said flynn. "he was alright, i suppose. i hope he makes an honest living with that fancy cart once he gets back into town."
out of the corner of their eyes, flynn saw desiree crack a small smile.

Sawyer's Quest

Username: Chocolate
Kalons in Party: molly, paige
Quest Response:

molly poked at the broken wheel, picking up all the different pieces. she was confused to how sawyer expected the three of them to fix a broken wheel. maybe they could just find another one.

“i dont think we can put the pieces of the wheel back together.” paige says, disappointment in her tone, trying to sound as polite as possible

molly walked up behind her. “great observation, sherlock.” she didn't mean to be rude, she was just grumpy, hungry and tired, and she just wanted quiet

paige sighed, and rolled her eyes. “do you know if there are any other wheels nearby we can buy or take?” she asked. she noticed what she said sounded like she was going to steal a wheel, but she didn't mean it like that.

“i have a spare wheel, i just don't know how to connect it to the rest of the wagon.” sawyer comments, grabbing a wood wheel from the back of the broken wagon. he looked helpless.

paige nodded, getting on her knees. she wanted to get on her marry way, but she couldn't if she had committed to fixing a wagon for a helpless kalon. “well, we just need to screw it back in, and tape up the cracks.” she said.

that's when she realized none of them had a screwdriver. she sighed. “does anybody happen to have something similar to a screwdriver?” she begged.

Molly pulled one out of her bag, and handed it to paige. And slowly they were able to fix the wagon.

      Sawyer's Quest

      Username: lonk
Kalons in Party: palmer, venita, & rudy
      Quest Response: (403 words)

"of course we'll help you out!" rudy exclaimed, almost yelling. it seemed to somewhat frighten the kalon. "we'll come up with something. i promise you."
palmer shook his head. "no promises, bud. but hey- i understand your scenario. i also really don't like the heat, y'know. i'd rather be anywhere but the lavalands." he gave sawyer a small smile.
"so, we'll be back, with a new wheel ready for your cart."

the two boys had absolutely no ideas.
"oh my god, guys, we're screwed." rudy sighed, plopping down on a small rock. he pulled marigold from the pocket of his bag, holding him in his arms. "mari, do you have any ideas?" the gremlin let out a shrill chirp, and rudy took it as a no.
venita laughed. "relax. i found a spot where we can find a new wheel- or even make one, if we have to. it's near the area where that chest was, the other day. follow me."
the junkyard venita found was a perfect place for the party to attempt to find a wheel. heaps of scrap metal and other trash littered the area, scattered about in mountainous piles.
palmer snapped his fingers together as they arrived. "i've got it! you two, find a large piece of metal for me. i'll use some sort of spell to bend it into the right shape, fuse the ends, and boom- we've got ourselves a wheel for bunny-boy back there." he grinned.
"sounds like a solid plan, then," venita retorted. the trio began to scout through the piles of junk. after a while, they found a piece large enough to replace sawyer's wheel, and palmer worked his magic, pulling out the dinky wand of his and fashioning it into the right shape.
it was light, so it didn't take long for the kalons to roll the wheel back to the spot where sawyer stood, fiddling around by his cart nervously.
"here's your wheel!" rudy yelled as they approached, rolling the wheel along. "palmer'll attatch it quick, and we'll be outta your grill."
palmer gave sawyer a smile, sensing that he was still probably a bit twitchy. "it might look weird having a metal wheel on a wooden cart, but i think it should work well."
after palmer worked his magic on somehow attatching the wheel onto the cart, the party had finally finished helping sawyer out. now, as to find that crystal...

Sawyer's Quest

Username: placebo
Kalons in Party: Arnav || T.C. Salem||Amosis ||

Quest Response:

It was definitely a struggle getting Sawyer's cart finished.

The hands of four made the work light, but the real struggle was Salem having to teach Arnav and Amosis how to fix an axel on the fly... at least they were enthusiastic.

But, as Salem and Arnav worked at fixing broken beams and shredded cloth, Amosis distracted Sawyer numerous times with stilted flirting. It was cute at first, but /dang/, to Salem, the flirting just got a tad sad to watch, but hilarious all the same. He could tell the sweet-hearted kalon was merely humoring Amosis' advances, because not once did the lop-eared kal blush despite him being easily flustered.

Salem thought Arnav would combust with the laughs he was holding back. At least Sawyer was nice enough not to crush the gray kalon's dreams.

Sawyer was generous enough to offer a bit of insight into the inner workings of Lavalands, despite his general discomfort of the place. Just a few hours before they finally parted ways, he told Salem and his group of strange energy coming alight within the confines of the center structures in the rocky caverns. Salem immediately perked up at that-- so, it seemed as if that would be the group's best bet to finding the next crystal. Salem nearly shuddered to think of the power that might resonate. Quick-flowing like lava, maybe? Or a raging inferno like an unchecked forest fire?

    Only time would tell. {240}

Sawyer's Quest

    Username: Sylar
Kalons in Party: althea, peregrine, & james
    Quest Response:

"Peregrine, James, hold on, just a moment," Althea told the two amidst the silence, seeing someone in the distance. It appeared that they needed help, and these three seemed to be the only ones close nearby. Her eyes widened slightly as she approached the stranger; whoever they were, they had a damaged cart. Shattered would be a generous way to describe the wheel that laid beside the wooden cart, and she motioned the rest of the party to follow her.

She introduced herself, as well as Peregrine and James, to the stranger; who also introduced himself as a man named Sawyer. Explaining the situation, Althea found herself chuckling. Not of course at Sawyer's misfortune, how terrible! No, it was at the fact that back at home, she actually had her own cart that she sold handmade lanterns and scented candles with. She had done this for many, many years; so many that she ended up losing count. Luckily, because of this, she knew more than one way to fix a broken wheel.

Digging through her pouch of supplies, she found a small tube of special glue. It wasn't any ordinary kind, mind you; she figured out a makeshift formula that helped fix her own cart in desperate times. Even though she hadn't brought her cart along with her on her journey due to time constraints, she brought the glue just in case something chaotic happened on their journey, or something needed assistance. Luckily, it had been the latter of those two options.

Peregrine and James made small talk with Sawyer while she was fixing the cart, and Peregrine, being the bubbly one of the group,
was excited to hear all of Sawyer's answers.

"Woah, that's a festival cart? That's amazing! I'm terribly sorry it broke down, but I'm sure Althea can fix the wheel," was just one of the many things she heard Peregrine exclaim while she was working, and it kept her smiling the whole way through. She glanced over at Sawyer when she was done, rotating the wheel onto the place it had been before.

"Apologies for the wait, but I believe I've fixed it," Althea gave a polite smile to a somewhat ecstatic Sawyer.

"Thank you, very much! I can't wait to get out of this heat and have a drink with a friend of mine," Sawyer chuckled at the last part of his sentence before departing and waving at the party. Althea waved back, giving a warm smile, and a thought entered her mind.

    He reminds me of myself.
