Jay facepalmed as the weasel scampered away. “Figures something like this would happen. Never fear! I’m going to get that ring back!” He puffed out his chest and approached it, staring it down as he drew nearer. When he was within pouncing distance, he smirked and shook his head. “Sorry Mr. Weasel, but I need that ring you have there!” He jumped, paws outstretched to catch the sly creature, but it ran out of harm’s way before he could catch it. Jay growled and crashed right into the wall.
“Jay, are you alright?” Chandra looked at him worriedly, taking a couple steps forward.
The other kalon sat up slowly, rubbing his head and muttering under his breath. “I’m fine. Just gotta catch the blasted thing.” He narrowed his eyes, scanning for the weasel and grinning when he found it under a table. He sprinted towards it, moving as fast as his legs could take him. While the weasel wasn’t exactly bigger or faster, it was certainly smarter, and it simply wove in and out of the tables and chairs as it ran away. Jay ended up crashing through about half the chairs due to his larger size, and as he was turning a corner he upended a table with a half-empty drink resting on it. The drink was tossed into the air and found its way to Jay’s head, spilling its contents all over him.
Chandra tried to hold back a snicker as she watched his antics. “Are you sure you don’t want some help, dear?” She glanced at the weasel before looking back at him. “Two sets of paws might be better than one.”
“I’m fine, thanks.” Jay grit his teeth, now glaring at the weasel. “That was the last time you make a fool of me!” He took off once more, apparently not having learnt his lesson from the first couple times. After a bit of chasing, he managed to trap the weasel in a corner. He stood in front of it, breathing hard from all the running and grinning a bit menacingly. “Aha! I’ve got you now, fiend!” He didn’t even have to take a step forward before the weasel dashed between his legs, causing him to fall over once again. “Oof!”
Chandra chuckled a little and came over to Jay, giving his head a couple pats. “Why don’t you let me handle this one?” She approached the weasel slowly, still keeping a good distance between them so she wouldn’t scare it off, but also making sure it could see and hear her. “Alright, little one. I’d say you’ve caused enough trouble for one day.” She held up the paw with two golden bracelets and gave it a little shake, her bangles flashing and clinking against each other. The little treasures caught the weasel’s eye, and it took a couple tentative steps forward. When Chandra didn’t attack it, it continued its approach, and she let it walk right up to her as though she didn’t see it. Just as it tried to steal her bracelets, she quickly grabbed it and snatched the ring away. “Now no more mischief from you! Go on home.” She released the creature and walked back over to Briceus and Jay with the ring.
“You got lucky,” Jay grumbled, but he had a small smirk on his face. “I would’ve thought of that eventually!”
Chandra laughed and nodded. “I know, dear. But it was taking a while for you to figure that out.” She handed the ring to Briceus and smiled. “There you go! One ring for luck. Just don’t lose it again!”
