Welcome to Coldwater Creek Tolter Ranch. I'd like to take a bit of your time to show you around the stables and give you some history while introducing you to some of our tolters. Firstly, we weren't always known as Coldwater Creek. This ranch was just a small time farm purchased by my father's great great grandfather for his wife who had wanted a horse more than anything in her life. Though it stayed a small farm for quite some time. When my great great great grandmother fell ill, she and her husband passed the farm onto their son.
They later passed on, but the ranch was in good hands with my great great grandfather. He married and had children, continuing to run the ranch, adding horses and slowly expanding the stables and pastures to accommodate the growing farm. By the time he passed it on to my great grandfather it had more than doubled in size from having just 8 horses to almost 20. With my great grandfather's help the ranch started to boom. Until the depression hit.
Life was hard now, but he would not leave his horses. They were his livelyhood and they always would be. Though the dollar was worth nothing, he worked hard and saved every dollar he could get. Though it didn't grow much, when the depression ended relief flooded and the money he had painstakingly saved durring the depression gained it's value back, he had made more money than he had thought. He began to update the farm, fixing things that he couldn't before.
Seeing what he had accomplished, he passed his fortune and his ranch onto his oldest son, my grandfather. This is where Coldwater Creek really grew. My grandfather used the fortune he had inherited to carefully invest in stocks. When the market skyrocketed, he gained even more money. Pulling from the market, he had earned over 3 million dollars. He used this money to put back into the farm. Updating everything. Adding new barns, a training facility, indoor arena, and purchasing more land and breeding stock. Soon Coldwater Creek was a notable breeding farm, putting out amazing foals and breeding stock which were sold at auction. Horses that were kept were put through intense training and shown. Names and titles were made and known and admired.
When my father inherited the ranch, there were over 100 horses. People were coming from all over the world for breedings and to purchase foals from us. Now that you know the back story of the ranch, I think it's time to meet some of our more notable tolters.
Welcome to our mare barn. Here are a few of our gorgeous mares. These two are Skylar and Alaska. They were purchased as a pair sale from an auction. They are both older mares, Alaska is almost 17, while Skylar is 14. They were originally used as trick horses in local rodeos. They had made quite the name for themselves, though we discovered that Alaska developed arthritis and it ended her career as well as Skylar's. But both mares are amazing broodmare and Alaska is at the top of our program for her brindling and chimeric coat.
Oh, watch your hat, Gi-Gi almost got it. Gi-Gi is our little hoarder, she enjoys stealing anything she can reach. If you lost something, she most likely has it. Gi-Gi came to us as a rescue. She was found tied to one of our back pasture fences. One of our staff members found her while rounding up our mares. She has been here ever since. Though we do not know her lineage, she is a wonderful comped it or and has proven herself in the show ring.
Next to her is Jules. Jules is our mamma bear, she is a surrogate for our orphaned foals and foals we take in. She is right around 11 years old and most of our staff would say she is their favorite here because she is so loving and affectionate. With her is her latest surrogate baby, Shadow. This little boy was bred here as well, but his mother needed to go back to her owners and they didn't want the little one. So he has been welcomed into our family with the help of Jules here and she is taking great care of him, as always.
Across the aisle we have his half-sister Goddess. She's our little princess, but one of the best show horses we have here. Goddess was bred here and you will get to meet her and Shadow's father, though we will have to head to the Breeder barn for that. So let's head there now.
The breeder barn is a two sectioned barn for both mares and stallions. It is divided down the middle by a large sliding door that is closed every night, separating the two sides. Though it is opened durring the day for easy access for our staff. This barn is for our exclusive breeding stock and houses all of them. The horse's here are constantly rotated to keep new blood in the barn so there is no risk of inbreeding.
First we have Matrix. This is Goddess and Shadow's sire. He's our ladies man, and next to him is his girlfriend Minx. The two can't bear to be separated from eachother as they are very bonded. They make a lovely pair, don't they.
Over here we have Vagabond. He is our special boy. He's very playful and nosy and will love to give you some nosy kisses if you let him. He's our little kid.
Across on the other side we have our two newest tolters. Both of these stallions have been long in waiting to get here. The first is Barrow. This boy is blind, but boy is he gorgeous. He was bred in Iceland at one of the top farms there and shipped here. He's very curious if you show him your interested. Though he is quite the mysterious fellow. His buddy over here is Sundown. You might have heard of him. He is the pride of the stables. He sports not only a chimeric coat, but he is also a somatic mutation and brindling. His somatic is a type we've only seen on him. He is bound to throw us some amazing foals with the right breedings. He's also in training right. Would you belive he's only 4 years old?!
