Writing: Story regarding the event featuring #A-0005 SM's Read Between the Lines//Linus [439 words]

Today was Linus and the trainer's last day to make a push towards the peak of the mountain. Linus was a little stressed by it, but mostly he was just excited. Some gorgeous view was definitely waiting for him and the trainer at the top. Linus couldn't wait to take that memory home with him.
In fact, Linus was excited to share all of the things he had experienced on the mountain. There was a pack of dogs waiting for him back at the Slate Mine estate. They'd been so excited when it was announced that Linus had been invited on the trip. Linus felt that he couldn't disappoint them now. They put so much faith in him to see this hike to the very end. Linus wanted to achieve that more than anything in the world at the moment.
As he walked alongside the trainer, he thought back over all of the things he had experienced so far on the mountain. He had seen all kinds of wildlife that they didn't have back at home. He'd survived huge storms, searing heatwaves, and even a forest fire. He'd even learned to fish from a river, just like the bears in the forest. The shepherd felt that all of these experiences had really caused him to grow as a dog. He didn't think he'd be quite the same once he returned home. Maybe he'd even be better at competing in the Carolina Shepherd Trials after this. And he was almost certain that his performance as a search and rescue dog would improve.
There was a spring in his step as he padded up the trail. There were almost no trees left to see now. The ground was rocky, and Linus could hear the click of his nails as he walked. There were some small shrubs and low-level plants that Linus occasionally came across. He stuck his nose into a few of them, startling various bugs and lizards into appearing. In one of them, Linus even found a snake. He jumped out of the way quickly before it could strike at him, causing the trainer to chuckle.
"Stop messing with the critters," they teased, and Linus huffed as he returned to the trainer's side.
The day wore on, and Linus' legs were getting tired. They had walked for such a long time, and the excitement of the past days was really starting to catch up with him. But the peak of the mountain was surely in reach now. Linus was sure of it. As they reached the end of the trail, Linus' heart started to beat just a little bit faster.

This is the last round to reach the top of the mountain! This will be ending tomorrow at ~8pm eastern (00:00 chickensmoothie time). I'll do a few rounds in the group discord for some fun guessing games for folks looking to earn some additional feet around 8 as well

While Ghost and Delta Dawn are hiking, Ghost manages to find someone's car keys that have fallen between two large rocks. You manage to retrieve them and a mile later you find their very thankful owner who makes sure to thank both you and Ghost for your hard work! You've progressed 184 feet up the mountain!

Frog and Frisco are hiking along when you spot something that looks like a large red ball lying in the middle of the trail. As you approach you see it’s an apple, so you look around to see if you can find any apple trees. A little ways uphill you find about a dozen old, grizzled apple trees as well as some rocks in a roughly rectangular shape. Was this someone’s home once? You take a few pictures and mark the location on your GPS - maybe someone from the local historical society knows about it. You've progressed 203 feet up the mountain!

While hiking Chocolate Puff and Furrydogs12 come across a recently cleared stretch of trail - you can still smell sawdust in the air and there is a fallen tree that has been cut up and moved off of the trail. Thank goodness for their hard work! You've progressed 291 feet up the mountain!
You also gain 38 feet from community participation and 125 feet and 20 SAR points from your drawings of Darth and Vader!

Linus and shortstop pause to watch a deer walk across the trail. Linus seems pretty eager to track it's scent, so you follow the deer up the mountain, making sure to keep a respectful distance between the deer and Linus. You've progressed 396 feet up the mountain!
You also gain 27 feet from community participation, 121 feet and 20 SAR points from your story about Linus's push to the top of the mountain, 150 feet and 12 SAR points from your sweet icons of Addie & Pierce (didn't technically have bonuses for animation but wanted to add those in, they look so cool!), and 115 feet and 10 SAR points from your sweet art of Linus discovering a lizard!

Delgado and Julius525 find a nice steam to play in - the water is cool, clear, and refreshing, and is a great help to soothe sore legs and paws! You've progressed 304 feet up the mountain!

They'd finally made it. On Linus' insistence, they'd kept walking up the trail quite late into the evening. Not that the trainer protested very much. Linus was sure that they wanted to see this hike to the end just as much as he did. The trail ended quite steeply, and Linus was panting by the time they finally crested the peak. He took a moment to steady himself and catch his breath for turning to admire the view that he had been looking forward to.
The view was definitely worth the days it had taken to get up here. Linus saw more of the natural world in one glance than he had seen so far in his life. In every direction there were trees and fields and even more mountains. There were stunning water features, clouds that were so close that Linus was sure he could touch them. In the distance, a hawk circled over some unknown creature. Linus could have stood there for hours.
They camped that final night on the mountain's peak. When dawn broke the next morning, Linus was up and out of the tent before the trainer even stirred. The view in the early morning light was even more stunning than it had been the night before. Linus stood in peaceful silence. He didn't even turn to look when he heard the rustling of the trainer leaving the tent. The trainer chuckled as they sat down next to the dog.
"We have to leave at some point," they said. "Sorry to disappoint you."
Linus pushed his nose into the side of the trainer's arm. It didn't matter if they had to leave eventually. Linus knew that he would never forget this.

Overnight rain has made the hiking trail slick and muddy, but that doesn't stop Linus and shortstop from keeping a good pace as they hike. You've progressed 339 feet up the mountain!
