(Note: I have full permission from ohworm! (owner of Cloudy Leopards) to host this thread)
For those who don't know--Cloudy Leopards was originally created back in summer of 2013, and back then the typical methods we used for uploading images was very different from today. Two common websites were TinyPic and PhotoBucket, both of which became very unreliable a few years ago. TinyPic was shut down permanently and, as a result, many CLs are permanently lost to time and sadly can never be restored unless the users re-uploaded the original file elsewhere (which is uncommon). PhotoBucket became paid-only a few years ago (that is: users are not permitted to use any images uploaded on the site at all unless they pay a subscription fee, regardless of whether or not images were uploaded before or after this change) and it decided to watermark and heavily compress the images linked from any user not currently owning a paid account, to prevent them from being used. This is brutal to pixel art and made many CLs unusable, as can be seen here:
I think it's rather unfortunate for users to lose CLs they were attached to after all these years, so I've taken it upon myself to try to restore some CLs from old users. I can't promise I can get to everyone, nor can I restore every CL, but I will try to bring some of them back so they can be used again. Like so:
--->
Some things to keep in mind:
1. I will only be restoring CLs you own that you specifically request for me to restore, as attempting to do so for every CL ever ruined by the watermark is unrealistic, and also not entirely needed when many users have long since left the site and won't see the revamps.
2. Your CL may be declined if it's too complicated for me to fix.
3. On a related note from 2, some liberties have to be taken when colors don't contrast a lot, as the compression sometimes entirely overwrites the colors or makes them less accurate. Your CL may not be entirely accurate and the level of accuracy will vary heavily from user to user. Screenshots or artwork drawn of them will help minimize this so feel free to provide it if you have it.
4. These CLs will not be revamped to the new, updated lines. They will keep the original style of V.1 and V.2 and are simply being cleaned up.
5. I am often busy, so please keep in mind that sometimes it might take me a bit to get to your CL.
6. There's no payment needed for this, service is entirely free!
7. Yes, opening the image URLs in another tab removes the watermark, and in fact I do this when copying the images to my art program! However, it does not undo the compression, which is why I decided to make this thread, not just the watermarks. I'm restoring the CLs to high quality as they become blurry and muddy as a result of the compression, and sometimes completely makes markings and lines unreadable.
There's no form to fill out or anything, simply post the photobucket-ified CL image on here asking me to revamp it and I'll do it for you!
