The stranger makes a face at Guilla's offering, his snaggletooth bobbing as he chews his lip.

“Wha-ɐɐɐ-aat’s this?” His voice is hoarse and raspy. It cracks mid-sentence, a painful, warped sound grinding in the back of his throat. It doesn’t seem like a noise that any living creature should be able to make, but he also doesn’t seem to notice it. He puts his paws on his hips and leans in, examining the stone.

The stranger crinkles his nose, and smacks the rock out of Guilla’s hand.

Bonk.

“Junk! You city grubs don’t know anything about sca- ɐ-venging. You’re like little ki-!-ts.”

“Ay, don’t be rude to the patrons. They got those fruit snacks I can’t get anywheres else. An’ I thought you said good soil was ‘worth its weight in gold…?’”

Someone else appears in the murk, a dim silhouette in the darkness. Just then, a brilliant flash— and a thousand-watt smile. The light of their neon ‘OPEN’ sign is second only to the lightshow perched on the signpost…

Guilla blinked slowly, eyes adjusting to the new light before them. They waddled over to the discarded rock and lifted it from its dredged-up path of sand. Carefully they dusted it off, cradling it in their claws, just as Veridas had done to them when they emerged from the soil. City grub... Guilla supposed they were sort of from the city, but they weren't a grub like their other siblings.

They were about to say as such, when an imposing figure loomed over them, paws knitted together, toothy grin rivaling the lights the wermz bathed in. The newcomer leaned in, calculating eyes inspecting their rock. Their gaze made Guilla's claws tighten around the warm stone, protecting it from another smack.
