history;; fighting, cursing, breaking bottles, and uncertainty plagued the entirety of Day's earliest memories. He would wake up each morning, unsure of the new obstacles he'd have to overcome to have breakfast. Shadows danced across the walls of the apartment, a solemn rhythm of violence crescendoing into silent sobs. The worst part of it all wasn't the broken childhood, but the fact that his parents always assured everything would fall into place in the long run; no matter how much they fought, they loved each other. It was his fault though, and he recognized that. Instead of running away from his problems or cowering behind a feigned confidence he faced the issue head on, determined to make the environment safer for his sister Lizzy. She was too young to fully comprehend everything.
Day took up one of his father's old hobbies; music. Finally, after years of being insecure and nervous in their relationship, Day connected with his stoic father. It was then that things took a turn for the better. From simple ten minute lessons a day, it evolved into hours of the two strumming a guitar and debating which chord sounded better. When he was around thirteen his mother became a more prominent member in his life, now confident in her ability to live in her own home. She began showing Day his wizardry heritage, tentative to take him away from his father who was desperate to become a model figure in Day's life. To her surprise, he took a step back and allowed the young boy to flourish in the knowledge of his mother's side of the family. Day was introduced to people he'd never met before, relatives that he wasn't even aware existed for the majority of his younger years. He would introduce his musical talent, and his cousins would show him simple pieces of magic that often left him dumbstruck.
Finally knowledgeable enough and in a stable home condition, Day's mother enrolled him into Hogwarts. Despite never attending the first two years, fourteen year old Day hit the books hard enough to be accepted into the year that was appropriate for his age; the end of third year. His trip to get his wand was no small feat, nor was it something he took lightly. In fact, he reveled in having his own; a solid cedar wood with dragon heartstring core. It wasn't the fanciest, nor the most beautiful of wands but it got the job done.
Day was placed into Gryffindor, and despite being in one of the more well known and accomplished houses he never quite fit in initially. To say it was a culture shock would be an understatement; a city boy in a world full of headless ghosts and flying candles. Against all odds he began to puzzle things together on his own, and grew a bond with his wand and a few classmates around him. In his fifth year Day was chosen as a prefect, not just for his studious behavior but also his willingness to learn.
Now Day (attempts to) keeps up with his music as well as school, learning to balance the stress of final exams and the inevitability of becoming an adult. His sister enrolled after him, and she's currently a second year. He tries to mentor her as much as possible, though his numerous responsibilities keep him busy. His parents still send letters, specifically his father who sends howlers nearly every two weeks reminding him to practice. Sometimes he thinks of his upbringing, but when that happens you'll probably find him with a glass of butterbeer, languidly plucking the strings of a guitar.
personality;; Someone who knew Day when he was younger would find the seventeen year old version of him entirely unrecognizable. For starters, his confidence began to soar along with the approval of his parents. As their appreciation and affirmation rose, so did his social ability and of course, performance in school. One thing that has always, and will always remain, is his infallible ability to twist any situation on its head and provide a witty response. Years of dealing with toxic family lent itself to this sometimes problematic ability. He attempts to curb this trait around superiors, although there are few instances where he's slipped in response to a poor grade.
Not much bothers him anymore, in essence, it's difficult to get under his skin. Day, more than most, understands scenarios which would lead someone to lash out and act irrationally. In these situations he allows himself to be quiet and learn their perspective. He doesn't really raise his voice much in anger, more so out of an attempt to control the situation.
The one vice that Day has that he hasn't been able to shake is a love of spiked drinks. Whenever he feels shaky, uncertain, or witnesses anything remotely close to what he experienced as a child, he turns to such beverages. The closest thing he can get at Hogwarts is butterbeer. If someone was careful enough, or perceptive enough, they'd probably notice he spends numerous hours at Hogsmeade. When Day is in one of these stupors he embodies most of the things he tries to avoid; anger, bluntness, and sometimes aggressiveness. Or, alternatively, he'll play the guitar very... very poorly.
