xxx Once, the primordial goddess Belenaβs smile was enough to make flowers bloom and birds sing. Peaceful and maternal, she watched over the forests of her old world with great care and attention, intent to serve it as an involved leader. Rather than an iron fist, she ruled with an open hand. Although open emotion did not become her, and for some centuries she remained apprehensive of direct engagement with the humans of her world, passion and tenderness were nonetheless present in her behavior and bearing. As the years passed and Belena grew, loath as she was to admit it (and never did she in so many words), lonely, she opened herself up more to the people of her home. While she was prone to the vanity and pride typical of any deity, the needs of others almost always went before hers, be those needs physical protection, a guiding hand to allow a flower to bloom, or simple company. For millennia, she balanced her delicacy and strength to best serve the inhabitants of her world. As her power grew, so too did Belenaβs dedication to her world.
β and then a force even she could not stop struck. Eternities for humans were already as short as seconds by Belenaβs standards, but it seemed that in the blink of an eye, Belenaβs world had gone from a lush realm overflowing with light and life to one consumed by death and desolation. She fought back with all her might, determined to fulfill the promises she had upheld until this point, but the combined might of the Queen in Yellow and the Faelord overwhelmed her. For the first time in her millennia of life, Belena came face-to-face with death. It surrounded her, and it would have dragged her under, too, were it not for the dying cries of the humans and flora and fauna of her world. Whether it was what she wanted, Belena found herself with a second chance, reborn in a forestβbut not hers.
Now, Belena has hardened and become wrathful and subdued. Her benevolent, warm exterior has all but dissipated; while it is likely her kindness could shine through again given time, she is too shattered now to extend that tender, welcoming persona again. However, she is far from aloof or stoic. Rage fills the entirety of the form she has now chosen to take (and then some, the extent of it likely well beyond the limits of her physical body). Beneath that fury is sorrow, but Belena sees little use in crying when she could be taking action. Guilt also weighs heavy on her conscienceβalthough objectively there is nothing she could have done for her world and its inhabitants, part of Belena still despises that she is still here and they are not, and she is tormented by thoughts that she could have done something. The time she has spent alone has further alienated her, making her somewhat paranoid and detached. She is frantic and all but single-minded in pursuit of her current goal: To take the chance she has been given and avenge her world, as well as so many others.
ββ why are you full of rage?
because you are full of grief.
