Ruth was raised in the caves of the Dragon Clan Grounds, nestled deep underground. Her mother raised her and her brother Dov alone because her father was from the Bear Clan. Her parents met while Ruth's mother was working as a representative at a meeting of the clans. However, because the leaders of both the Bear Clan and the Dragon Clan did not recognize their relationship, they kept it a secret, even after Ruth and her brother were born. They both grew up immersed in the culture of the Dragon Clan and learned their way of magic, but her mother also shared the Bear Clan's beliefs and gave them both the opportunity to visit their father whenever possible which was usually when their mother would travel. However, when Dov was around six years old, he had to go live with their dad in the Bear Clan to keep the other clan members from finding out who they were. This separation was hard for Ruth because they had grown up so close to one another over the years. Ruth struggled with learning and using magic both because of her mixed heritage, and also because the Dragon Clan did not want her to practice magic any way other than their own.

Once she was old enough, Ruth worked as a Dragon Clan representative and travelled around Armello, taking as many chances as she could to visit her father and Dov. Ruth first met Ursula on such a trip nearly ten years ago while they were each training for their respective jobs. They got to know each other a little bit over the years and Ruth became more comfortable speaking with the leader of the bear clan. When Ruth was seventeen, she and her mother went to visit the Bear Clan and learned her brother wasn't there anymore. He had been taken by members of the Bear Clan who saw him as a traitor and wanted him gone. Her brother was brought before the king and executed. His death shook Ruth and convinced her the king was no longer the beloved ruler he once was. All Ruth knows is that members of the bear clan turned Dov in and now she trusts no one from the clan except Ursula and her father.

Ruth was asked by Ursula to help with a problem at Lake Armel. As the pair investigated, they discovered an underground river and followed it to see where the strange corruption of the lake was coming from. They came back to the surface inside of the palace and were attacked by guards for trespassing. During the altercation, Ursula was injured and she and Ruth barely escaped with their lives. As a direct result of the incident, the king declared the pair wanted criminals, forcing Ruth to leave her home and her mother and to hide from the royal soldiers. Currently, Ruth uses her magic to disguise herself as an old woman who is travelling the country with her granddaughter. She always struggled with her identity until she was banished. Now with the freedom to do whatever she wants with her knowledge, Ruth feels more comfortable exploring who she can become and what she can do when other people are not limiting her. As they have spent the past few months travelling around Armello gathering information on spirit stones: when and where the next one may appear, Ruth has been wrestling with how she should tell Ursula about her father and brother- or whether she should even do it.

Born in the depths of the Moonlight Moor and raised as a member of the bear
clan, Ursula has always felt at home within the trees and by the crystal blue
waters of Lake Armel. Her parents taught Ursula to appreciate nature and live
in harmony with it, she learned the important of balance within nature and
the magic's of the world. Wyld magic was always around them in every living
thing from plants to creatures while Rot existed in death and shadows,
dangerous but necessary as you could not have a world with life and not death.
As a child, Ursula taught this and though she didn't really understand she knew
it was important to remember it.
When she turned twelve Ursula and the other young bear clan members were
gathered together and brought to the clan leader. The old wizened woman was
ready to begin training the next clan leader and in order to select them, a
test was given to all the children in the village. When it came to her turn
Ursula was brought to a circle of stones near the lake, the clan leader stood
before her with a shallow dish of water. She was asked to place her hands in
the water and try to hear the voice of the lake, almost as soon as her fingers
brushed the surface of the water she heard a voice ring inside her head, it
echoed like ripples and spoke to her of many things. The voice itself didn't
frighten Ursula but what it spoke of did, it warned of a day when the rot would
find a way to spread further and cover the land in darkness. Terrified the
young girl snatched her hand from the water and fell backwards with a small
cry. Though she was too scared to repeat what the voice had told her Ursula
gripped proof of her connection to the voice in her hand, a small oval stone
veined with blue that seemed to glow from within.
Her training began the very next day, Ursula was moved into the clan leader's
residence as an apprentice. Her days were filled with lessons and meetings,
any free time she did have was usually spent helping the clan leader around
the house or practising channelling her magic. With the warning from the lake
and the expectations of her clan Ursula worked hard at her studies and put
things like playing with her peers out of her head. During these years the most
exciting things for Ursula were the times she was taken to clan gatherings
outside of the clan grounds. During the meetings, she was merely an observer
but seeing the other clan leaders of Armello was fascinating to a young girl
who'd never been beyond the borders of her forest home. It was around this
time that Ursula first met Ruth, a dragon clan member and someone around
her own age who was apprenticing under her mother to become a diplomat.
At twenty-one Ursula inherited the title of clan leader and during the
ceremony had her vow to protect the clan and the balance of wyld and rot
tattooed along her spine as was tradition. Still a young clan leader Ursula felt
as if she had to prove her worth to the other clan leaders. Diligent in her duty
Ursula always had the lake's warning in the back of her mind whenever the
subject of rot would surface. It wasn't until the king began his search for a
precious ore that alarm bells truly began sounding. Her warnings dismissed as
simply grumblings of a very traditional clan Ursula became ever more vigilant
of Lake Armel and would spend hours listening to the rippling voice. As weeks
past the voice grew quiet till it was barely a whisper as well a strange violet
lichen was seen growing in patches around the shore.
Not wanting to alarm her clan Ursula went to Ruth begging her friend to help
find the source of the lake and hopefully by extension where the lichen was
coming from. Using magic the two managed to track the source of the lake to
an underground river that wound it's way all the way to the very heart of the
royal palace. A pit in her stomach Ursula began to fit the pieces together,
however before the two of them could confront the king they were set upon
by palace guards. Though she fought bravely Ursula wasn't a match for the
palace guard, she didn't remember how they escaped but when she came to
she couldn't move. All she knew was that Ruth had saved her life and that the
two of them had been proclaimed traitors to the crown.
Banished from her own clan and branded a traitor and assassin Ursula was
crushed, everything she had worked so hard for had been snatched from her
grasp. Even more so the bear and dragon clan had been punished, their
sacred circles destroyed by royal proclamation. Angry, banished and with
nothing else to lose Ursula abandoned her name and set out on a quest to
restore balance. With one spirit stone in their position Ursula and Ruth need
only keep on the road and keep their ears open to the land around them for
the location of the next stone.

For as long as Dunstan could remember his life had been decided, his father was the captain of the royal
guard and a legendary warrior among The Wolf Clan. His mother was also a skilled warrior and was the one
who raised Dunstan into the young man he became. Every few years he and his mother would make the trek
down from the clan grounds to the palace to meet his father and have a few days together of being a family.
Duty and responsibility were things drilled into Dunstan by his parents, eventually, he would take his father's
place and that was the end of that. A dutiful son Dunstan trained hard to become a skilled warrior, though
still very much a child with a desire to explore, he home often coming back with scrapes and bruises. Living
in the cold mountainous clan grounds Dunstan learned what it took to survive not only individually but also
as a pack. Caring for his fellow clan members became second nature, anytime he was asked Dunstan was
always willing to help. Years past but it wasn't until Dunstan turned twenty that he was reminded of his fixed
future, an assassination attempt on the king had been thwarted by Dunstan's father but at the cost of his
own life. Knowing what this meant Dunstan left his home behind and travelled to the palace to serve as the
next captain of the guard.

Arwyn Gallagher grew up in the port city of Arrowrest. Son of a single mother who told him when he was older that his father was a trader from another clan. The two of them lived at the inn that his mother worked for during his early childhood years. She worked two jobs keeping them afloat, so Arwyn had a bit too much unsurprised time on his hands. It was here that he learned and perfected his talents of sleight of hand, lock picking, and quickly learning that not everyone in power should be in power. When he was twelve his mother got word that her grandfather was gravely ill, so she packed up their small life and used all of her savings to pay for the travel fees to Esterdale. To say that Arrowrest was an open playground for young Arwyn does not come close to how much of a true playground that Esterdale was.

It was here in Esterdale that Arwyn truly saw the corruption of the rich and their powers over the poor. He hated watching the tax collectors come by every month and how they would shake down their neighbors as well as his own family to get more than the monthly tax because they could. He and his small group of friends would pull pranks on the tax collectors making their routes full of trouble. It backfired a few times on them, but that never stopped them from trying.

Arwyn never grew out of his mischievous ways. Testing the limits became a hobby as a young boy and now as an adult, he has perfected the technique. Pair that with a cheeky yet charming personality and the occasional foot-in-mouth moments, you get a true trouble maker. Even as a child he would take punishments that weren’t his own to protect his friends. Now that he is older, he is still looking out for the ones who cannot protect themselves. He still has the same small group of friends from his childhood days that stand next to him. They may be small in number but that doesn’t mean they can’t make a large difference.
