- ► PERSONALITY. Prideful and reserved, Ophelia has the tendency to come across as aloof—
in actuality, she is deeply shy and prone to anxiety in many social situations.
She tends toward introversion and freezes up in crowds and around strangers.
Academically and professionally, she greatly prefers solo work and will often either
refuse to participate in group activities or force herself to lead them, often stepping
on toes in the process. Though her nerves can at times overwhelm her, Ophelia is
more decisive and spontaneous under pressure. She tends to procrastinate to
purposefully bring this tendency out. Whether or not that strategy sufficiently
pays off, however, is a roll of the dice each time.
Ophelia isn’t majorly concerned with her academic achievements, but personal success
means a great deal to her. She has a competitive streak that can easily flare up,
adding to her cool reputation. That said, she doesn’t have much in the way of long-term
plans and doesn’t have particularly large ambitions; Ophelia is firm on the ideal of
living in the moment and shies away from commitment. As a result, she is somewhat
unpredictable and lives on spontaneity. She is fairly in-touch with both her emotions and
those of others, with an overpowering amount of empathy—this is a contributing
factor into her introversion, but most of it is just a natural inclination toward solitude.
Though loneliness doesn’t come quickly to Ophelia, boredom does, and she hasn’t yet
quite worked out how to handle it. It can take time for her to settle into a comfortable
friendship, but as a friend and companion, she is warm and compassionate, if quiet.
On an intellectual level, Ophelia is creative and imaginative. She has had a
vested interest in the arts for nearly all her life; she has poured hard work into
her skills and refuses to have them dismissed as talents inaccessible to all
without a genetic predisposition. Although she is majoring in fine arts, Ophelia has
a deep passion for any sort of arts, even those she doesn’t have any particular skill
or personal interest in. The majority of her skills are in illustration (primarily drawing
and painting), but she also has some practice with metalworking and literature.
She is not especially skilled in matters of mathematics or science, but she can
appreciate the beauty of certain natural sciences. In addition, she has a mild interest
in mortuary work, though almost entirely as an observer.
- ► HISTORY. Daughter to Hades and a Korean American teacher, Ophelia grew up
as reserved and shy as she is to this day. She was raised on the West Coast,
bouncing between Washington and northern Oregon in particular, traveling somewhat
frequently for her mother’s work—and, though Ophelia did not know it at the time,
her protection. Morbid themes and art attracted her in equal measure as a child;
she could often be found drawing skulls in composition books intended for schoolwork.
Ophelia learned of her heritage early as well, her mother wishing to be honest with
her regarding her father’s whereabouts. The exact details were kept under wraps,
and it seemed to work out in Ophelia’s benefit. While her father’s power was not worth
underestimating, Ophelia was able to keep it relatively under wraps on her own, although
she spent most—if not all—of her summers at camps designed for demigods due to the
attention her origins drew. Embarrassed and reserved, her time there was primarily spent
alone, resulting in her poor combat skills today.
Since arriving at Half-Blood University, Ophelia has held true to her old patterns.
Knowing her paternal half-siblings is… strange, she won’t lie, but the overall atmosphere
of the college isn’t unpleasant to her.
