- - seeing this set in some obscure spot in the northeast of the united states. it's present day but the school itself, given that it is very elusive and well hidden, has a sort of unique, cultivated aesthetic and feel. i'm feeling a very "dark academia aesthetic" so do with that what you will. while students aren't provided a school uniform, the dress code for academic affairs is business casual on week days, and is strictly enforced. weekends and recreational time is more lax, and students are free to wear more comfortable attire. (im not sure if i have explicitly stated this already, but this is a boarding/college type situation, and students are not permitted to leave the grounds freely. special trips into town are scheduled and somewhat supervised and few & far between. students can also be denied permission to leave campus for disciplinary reason)
- heathridge abbey offers your typical classes (english, mathematics etc) but also offers a wide variety of more specialized subjects. "history of extraordinary abilities" is an example of a more generalized class that is offered. some classes accept only those who feel that the knowledge is applicable. an example of this would be children from the house of valentina enrolling in a class that is geared towards those who wish to hone in on their supposed ability to wield invisibility. (I say supposed here because sometimes children do not enjoy all the abilities that their house has been known to possess.) children from other houses, who know that they do not have this ability, would naturally be barred from enrollment.
- obviously, students cannot use their powers to intentionally harm others. this is enforced by the staff and faculty of heathridge abbey. any student *caught* willingly engaging in harmful behavior is subject to severe punishment or expulsion.
- students are not permitted to leave their respective dormitory from the hours of 12am - 6am. any student caught out of bed during these hours is subject to severe punishment or expulsion.
- all three houses eat their meals in the great hall at their respective tables (designated by house). this is where school announcements and assembly usually takes place. the staff and faculty also eat here, at their own designated table.
- given that the proposed age range is 18-24, i'm feeling that the years will be organized as follows: first year (age 18-19), second year (age 19-20), third year (ages 20-21), fourth year (ages 21-22), fifth years (ages 22-23), sixth years (ages 23-24). for the purpose of this rp, we will start a new school year (so like September). if you want your character to be, for example, 20 years old, then you can choose for them to be in second year (on the older side of things) or in third year (on the younger side of things) depending on birthdate. I feel like I might not be explaining this in the best way, but just try to think about your grade at school and how people born in different months/years still naturally end up in a class year together.
- there is a vast lawn that sits in the center of the property called "cherish greene." it was named after alistair heathridge's wife, and is framed with various flowering plants and trees. cherish greene is where pupils walk across to get to the outer campus buildings, to play various sports with friends, or even just to bask in the sunlight between classes. it is a very visually appealing part of the campus, and alistair heathridge used to say that cherish greene was his one of his favorite parts of the campus.

- - being that these houses are grouped, in large part, based upon personality, and also by abilities, it is not surprising that there are established social behaviors between them. this separation was at first, to promote a learned and shared experience for the like-minded, although recently, as shifted to a clear division between peers. friend groups are often, if not exclusively, comprised of those that reside within the same house. the competitive nature of the school has perpetuated this dynamic, and breaking such social trends is rather taboo, although not entirely unheard of. still, there are typically many pupils who are fiercely loyal to their house, and avoid "befriending the enemy." the climate has become incredibly more hostile in the passing of recent events (the tragic passing of mirabelle blackwood) and those who would typically be more open to reaching across house walls are a lot less eager to do so. (naturally, i'd love to see the drama that would ensue if a valentina befriended an aero, if a castiel declared a valentina as a mortal enemy, if an aero fell in love with a castiel.. etc. the possibilities are spicy and endless!!)
- the children that are fortunate enough to enroll at heathridge abbey come from all walks of life. given that the school's main priority is recruiting as many extraordinary pupils as they can, this it's the main factor that is weighed in determining admission. things such as economic and social status are almost completely disregarded. this adds several layers to the complexities of social life at the abbey.

- - the students of heathridge abbey are here to develop their skills. they are in no way true masters at their abilities and will likely struggle! no one is perfect, and everyone can use a little practice. using their abilities can drain physical energy and can also drain them mentally.
