Negan initially comes off as cruel and incredibly flippant towards others, having a seemingly
lighthearted attitude but a grim, sardonic sense of humor, giving the impression that he ca-
res so little about hurting others that such things aren't much more than a joke to him. He
almost always speaks his mind bluntly, with no regard for how it may impact anyone else -
either that, or he'll say something intentionally rude or crass just to get a rise out of someo-
ne, which he seems to enjoy. Despite all this, he is deceptively charismatic, and much more
intelligent than his brash and rude demeanor would have you believe. This allows him to be
a strong leader who is adept at maintaining his position and convincing others to follow him.
Negan tends to see most other people as weak, cowardly, and pathetic, and seldom expects
them to survive for very long. As an indirect result of this, he has developed a sort of savior
complex, believing that the best way to keep people alive is for someone like him to rule th-
em with an iron fist. Despite how it may appear, he seems to genuinely believe he's doing t-
he right thing, or otherwise working towards the right thing - at least most of the time. But,
he also knows he needs to maintain the respect and fear of those who serve under him, and
will go to immense lengths to keep someone under his banner. This is usually executed by a
massive show of force and/or extravagant act of cruelty - though there is, however twisted,
always some sort of reasoning behind the awful things he does - even if it isn't apparent at
the time. He ultimately believes that his rule and the laws he lays down are protecting peo-
ple - even if it comes at a great cost. The occasional individual who is brave or strong-willed
enough to defy this expectations of other people as pathetic and fragile may manage to ear-
n themselves a degree of respect from him...even if invoking his ire at the same time. He h-
as shown himself to be capable of kindness, particularly towards women and children, but is
still very much capable of abandoning it at the drop of a hat.
