celeste is a reserved woman who comes off as a rather stoic. she never seems to falter from her calm demeanor and often is seen as a motherly figure because of this. however, this stoic nature is simply a mask that she wears to hide the insecurities that lay underneath. coming from a rich family, much is expected from her and the pressures of her family often cause her to feel stressed a lot. this stress often gets buried until someone or something is able to break her facade and cause an emotional meltdown. it is rare for her to get angry, but she is prone to suffering from mental breakdowns which will throw her into a sobbing fit. even so she tries to make sure others don't worry too much about her. she rather not have the focus on her and would rather help others. even though she is gentle in nature, celeste does hold a major flaw in her personality. due to her social status, she does have a warped perception of the people around her. she has a tendency to forget that others might not have been as fortunate as she was. she will often believe that others would own the most expensive and up to date technology. even so, she doesn't necessarily do it out of malice or to flaunt it was simply how she was raised. going along with such, celeste often does not understand common slang and is unfamiliar with a lot of things. even so she is a hard worker and won't let others think that she bought her way to where she is now. celeste is studious and quite wise.

Personality

Lain is a hot-blooded but calculating person. She enjoys power and using fear to further her goals. She is capable of acting and plays the role of an uncaring gym leader well, but her temper often shows in battle, leading people to believe (rightly) that she has anger management issues. As the leader of the Infinite Nightmare Church, she uses her emotions well, leading fiery, moving speeches about humanity’s place in “the upcoming Ascension”. However, she is well-known there for mercilessly punishing church members for the tiniest mistake, often excommunicating or jailing them in the church’s secret prison. There are many ex-members of the church that still believe but were kicked out for failing a task.

History
Lain as a child was visited by Darkrai as it passed by Erebus City. She, like many other people there, were thrust into a joint nightmare for a day and a half. The experience was traumatizing and fascinating to her. Lain from them on tried to explain her experience as best as a little girl could, and she turned to religion.

In Lain’s mind, the world of Darkrai, is Heaven. The Nightmare Realm is built and controlled by Darkrai, but she believes humans could shape it too. Whether this is actually true is unknown. Lain believes that humans were meant to discover Heaven through Darkrai, and that humanity is meant to abandon the material plane and “Ascend” to the Nightmare Realm. There, humanity will exist as they were “meant to be”, as souls with the same level of influence on their world as Darkrai has. There would be no pain, war, famine, or ignorance. Humanity could live in peace in Heaven.

Again, whether this is true or not is unknown. But Lain started her church in secret, using a false name and donning a mask and robe to hide her face. She took the name “Cassandra” after the legend of a psychic who was cursed by the gods to see the truth but never be believed. Many people thought her insane, as they had experienced the horrible nightmare of Darkrai and didn’t want anything to do with it again. Some people were intrigued by the idea of a collective ascension to Heaven and joined her. Cassandra built a secret base for the Church as their members grew and started ordering members to hunt for Darkrai, steal tech and kidnap scientists, and ruthlessly punished anyone who disobeyed or failed. She even built a jail to “exact justice” on members for questioning or failing her, and her people cowered in fear. Soon people learned it was a bad idea to get involved in the Church or try to leave.

She is kind, friendly and very expressive, but can also be cowardly, stubborn and a bit impatient. She was born and raised an only child in the middle class and was very sheltered for most of her life, so she can be naive and overly friendly to strangers that she probably shouldn't be. She enjoys helping others, people and pokemon alike and that has in the past ended badly for her, but she she refuses to give up and prove her parents right by coming home empty handed like they assumed she would. She has wisened up a bit in the two years she's spent in the Rakuna Region, but she will still offer the benefit of the doubt to most who cross her path. Despite this, she is very afraid of being alone in places she deems "creepy", such as caves and dark woods.

While not an elite trainer, Ash is a fairly seasoned one. Her parents are very overprotective of her and required her to participate in the Johto League challenge before allowing her to move to the Rakuna Region on her own. So by age eighteen, she had trained and gathered the eight gym badges so she could be on her merry way, though she never actually challenged the elite four. She's always preferred exploring and raising pokemon to battling but won't back away from a challenge, either.
