Personality: To most of the group, Richard seems like little more than a surly brute. Humorless, quick to lash out, and most certainly violent, Richard is a living reminder to them of their past time within the School's confines. And its not like Richard attempts to dissuade such notions. However, to a certain few within the group, he's an altogether different beast, trading his more natural savagery to become much more considerate and caring, with all his usual anger funneled into an absolutely vicious protective streak. Among those he cares for, he is often far more patient with those he doesn't.
History: Unit No. 394 is a literally home-grown product of the school. Created for the sole purpose of serving as a deterrent for those subjects thinking of escape. He did well in this job, even stopping a few potential escapes with vicious speed. However, there was a noticed laxness in his duties upon the arrival of a certain mute boy. Then, the fire had occurred, resulting in the escape of all subjects at the school, including, unexpectedly, Unit No. 394. Off of the school records, Richard had assisted in Ben's escape (mostly by tearing through everything between him and freedom), and eventually joining up with the rest of the escaped subjects, reluctantly joining them on Ben's insistence.
Other: Unlike most subjects, Richard lacks functioning vocal cords, and can only communicate via crocodile vocalizations (hisses mostly). His reptilian features also makes emoting difficult to say the least.

shared lack of a voice to speak with,

to be the one least frightened of him.
Or perhaps it was some other thing en
tirely. Whatever the reason, Richard a
nd Ben were close-knit even at the sc
