Iain was never the princely type, and he never had to be until now. He is an adventurous type, very fond of the outdoors, who is willing to try anything at least once. He's a rather crude sort of fellow, and incredibly blunt. He will always call it like he sees it and very much enjoys sarcastic banter. Nevertheless, Iain is a very friendly, hospitable person. It doesn't matter who you are or what your status is, he will chat with everyone. The flipside is that he sometimes won't treat someone of importance any different than the random guy he just met in the bar, which some can find offensive. And though he may make fun of you, he means well and he really is a loyal friend. While confident, rarely does he cross to the point of arrogance. However he is very, very patriotic and if you ever get him talking about the wonders of Scotland, he'll never stop. He will always and forever think Scotland is the best place in the world, which doesn't make for the best international relationship abilities. Because he's proud of his country, he is eager to represent it as well as he can and to make a good impression on the press, with which he has had very little interaction. Thus, he will do his best to get along with all the other royals and to bond with his new fiancé.

Iain was born the oldest of five brothers, with one baby sister on the way. His parents are happy together and they raised Iain and his brothers like normal kids. They are very supportive of their kids and when Iain told them he was bisexual, they supported that too. His youngest three brothers are triplets, eight years old, and three of the most troublesome children in all of Scotland. His other brother is a very quiet, academic sort of boy. Thus, despite the fact that he wasn't very interested in the crown, Iain was dubbed heir. However, for most of his life he'd been free to do what he'd liked while his parents ran the country. He was never "prepped" for kingship, nor was he taught about being a dignitary or intercultural relations. Instead he played music, partied, and ran about the countryside. In fact, Iain spent every hour he could outside. He loved to walk the hills and woods behind the Palace of Holyroodhouse. In fact, his entire family is very outdoorsy. He grew up hunting, fishing, and riding instead of learning languages, charm, and grace. However, this wasn't exactly the best thing for them. His three younger brothers are strongly looked down upon for their mischievous behavior, his brother is ridiculed for his "un-scottishness", and he himself is called uncouth and brazen. This never bothered Iain, but what did bother him was the stigma towards his brothers and his country in general. They were seen as the hooligans; the barbarians who wanted to play in the mud all day and drink all night. As a result of this, he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder about Scottish stereotypes, and he's eager to prove that the Scots are just as good as any other royals. However, because his parents never really made him do many "princely activities", he wasn't prepared at all when they told him that he was arranged to marry the princess of France and sent him off to bond with her and other future monarchs. He isn't exactly sure he wants to, but if it's good for the country, then he'll at least try.
