while she may not look like it, kasai is a total sweetheart
who is extremely loyal and will never let a friend down.
she comes off as a rough tough soldier because she was r
eally only raised by her father, who is an exiled fire nati
on general. now her father works as a general for the re
public city and he is one of the founding members of the
anti-avatar team. since she was a child she has been gro
omed to take his place as the general of the republic cit
y's military. however, that has never truly interested kas
ai. while she is an extremely skilled and gifted firebend
er, fire has never been enough for her. combat and battl
e strategy are her main passions; but she is not supporti
ve of the war that the anti-benders want to being upon
the benders, mainly the avatar supporters. mostly, kasa
i has a strong hate for the fire nation; which is probably
the only thing she has in common with her father other
than their equal skills on the battle field. she truly beli
eves that the fire nation is corrupt and looking to take
over the other clans. while her blood may run with the
same fire of the fire nation, her heart is not where her
true home is. she wants nothing more than to see them

on the surface, kazuo seems like he's got it together. he speaks confidently, with an easy charisma about him that made him a great pick to be the new "avatar." but his cooperative nature could also get him labeled as a pushover; he seldom questions the desires and decisions of the council, even if internally he's unsure. he'd like to speak his mind sometimes, but ultimately never does due to his long list of insecurities. the council says that nobody should bend more than one element—fine. he'd stick with fire. but he didn't get that choice, because for some reason, he just can't grasp any other element. it makes him feel like a failure. so many avatars before him could bend multiple elements by his age, so... why can't he? still, despite his hidden struggles and frustrations, he does what he's told and acts like it's for the best that he's only capable of bending one element. and, on the bright side, when it comes to that element, kazuo is extremely proficient, with the ability to bend lightning as well; he simply gets so caught up in what he can't do that he has a hard time identifying his own, actual skills. his resolve is nothing to scoff at, though; he still hasn't given up on unlocking the other elements, and shows no sign of that changing. kazuo is, for better or for worse, determined to be the best avatar he can be.

kazuo has lived in republic city all his life. he comes from an upper class family; not so wealthy that his name alone carried wide recognition before he was revealed to be the "avatar," but wealthy enough that he was never left wanting for much as a child. still, his parents were always eager for more, and in their efforts to socially climb, kazuo was often told to keep quiet, and he can remember countless events where his sole duty was to stand silently next to his parents while they tried to gain favor with those above them. kazuo was always taught to trust and respect the council, because they (and their decisions) had always treated his family well. and, indeed, he had no reason to question them. his parents were both nonbenders, but firebending existed in his bloodline from two of his grandparents. kazuo ended up spending a lot of time with those grandparents, and they became his first firebending teachers. his parents certainly didn't have much to offer him in that regard, although they did emphasize the importance of being able to look after himself without relying on bending, too, and provided him with the motivation to become an excellent hand-to-hand combatant. that proved to work well in tandem with his bending, so he was never opposed to it. his entire family was understandably shocked when members of the council knocked on their door one day, though; kazuo had never shown any signs of being able to bend elements other than fire before, making it difficult to believe that he was the avatar. still, they trusted the council, as per usual, and his parents quickly changed their tune and seemed quite thrilled by the news, as they were sure it would give them another social boost. now, kazuo worries that upsetting the council would reflect badly on his family, who he believes to have worked hard to get where they are, which serves as yet another reason why he doesn't speak up even if he disagrees on something. as he struggles with his mounting insecurities, he tries to remember what his parents always told him about not needing bending to succeed. it's just been getting harder and harder to keep that in mind. all he can think about is that he should be able to do more than he is currently; it's not about whether he needs it or not (he tells himself), he just wants to know that he can.

"avatar kazuo" has a confident, nonchalant vibe. he's full of easy smiles and tries to have an answer for
every question. any question, that is, that the council prepares him for. all of his apparent confidence
comes from repeating the lines fed to him. if he can rehearse something, he can make it sound convincing
if he's caught out, or asked something unexpected, though, he pulls into himself a little bit and becomes
much quieter. he doesn't want to say the wrong thing, after all; he's extremely cooperative with the
council (and, really, with everyone he encounters) and has no interest in rocking the boat. instead, he
maintains his one-dimensional mask, and does as he's told with a smile on his face.

kazuo isn't entirely removed from his avatar persona. he does genuinely love to be around people,
and he makes a great mediator when it comes to the disputes of others. he listens well, and tries to get
a feel for all sides of a story before suggesting anything. he's much more mild-mannered and reserved
than the face he puts on for the city, and his quiet nature combined with his relatively impressive acting
skills can make him somewhat hard to read at times—although he's really not the hardest person to fluster,
so his nervousness may be easier to pick up on when he's not acting for the council. kazuo doesn't handle
confrontation well, and would sooner dodge an argument than partake in one himself. he's fond of jokes
and pranks, even if his reactions can come off as a bit subdued; his sense of humor is dry, but not very
scathing. he tries to be kind to everyone, and maintain an open mind about others. kazuo also tries not to
let his insecurities show, and feels like opening up about them would make him look even weaker than he
already feels like he is. he loves to learn, and he's always looking to improve. kazuo will frequently
meditate and seek out sparring partners or those willing to share techniques, especially if they bend an
element other than fire. the council may not want him to bend anything else, but he still wants to know
that he can, and then be able to make the choice for himself to do the "right thing" like they want, and
only bend fire. he's just eager, if not desperate, to prove himself, and though his ambition and resolve
may be admirable to some, kazuo might also be getting consumed by them.

his typical style could be described as "hobo chic,". consisting largely of
