the king: [High Rank] The king is in charge of all of the going-ons within the pack, able to give orders to anyone. The line of the rank is determined through bloodlines, but every now-and-then an ambitious wolf will step up and challenge the king to take their place. This challenge is a fight to the death. If the king wins, he keeps his leadership. If the challenger wins, he's the new king. The king chooses the lead hunter, the lead fighter, and the ranks of every trainee.
the queen: [High Rank] The queen is the chosen mate of the king. While she doesn't have as much direct power, she can give the king suggestions and advice. She's expected to bear the king an heir and raise his pups.
the heir: [High Rank] The heir is the son of the king and the queen. He must be from their first litter, and he's the male pup deemed the strongest by the omen-reader. He will be raised to someday become king, while his siblings will become regular ranks once they're old enough.
the watchers: [High Rank] The watchers are the king and queen's eyes and ears. They're their personal guards, for when they're going out of the pack's camp, and they will inform the king of any suspicions they have of possible trouble that may be brewing. They're chosen by the king, typically close friends of his or members of the pack who have proven themselves worthy. They also keep watch on trainees, so that they may inform the king of what rank might suit them best.
the omen-reader: [High Rank] The omen-reader is believed to be in close connection with the respective God of their pack, either reading the stars or listening to the whispers of the wind. They may receive ominous omens or prophecies from these Gods that may affect the fate of the packs, a message which they deliver to the king. They are also in charge of choosing the heir from the king's first litter. Whenever the omen-reader dies, a pregnant mother will receive a dream, basically informing them that one of their pups will be the next one.
the lead hunter: [High Rank] The lead hunter is the leader of the hunters, the one who organize hunting parties every morning and evening. Whenever the lead hunter dies, the king chooses the next one, which is determined by a hunting competition.
the lead fighter: [High Rank] The lead fighter is the leader of the hunters, the one who decides who is on guard duty (watching the camp) and who is on patrol (scouting the territory.)
the hunters: The hunters provide food for the pack. During the winters, they may have to travel rather far, even a trip that lasts several days, in order to find food. It can be a tough job, but an absolutely vital one.
the fighters: The fighters are the strength of the clan. They must be fearless, as they often face battles with the rivaling pack, loners, exiles, and even other animals like bears. They can either be on guard duty, where they keep watch over the camp, or they can be on patrol, where they make sure that the territory is safe and threat-free.
the trainees: Trainees are younger wolves, starting their rigorous training at eight months old and ending at two years of age. They are assigned two different mentors: one hunter and one fighter so that they can best try to find their calling. They are observed by the watchers who report their progress to the king. The king decides their rank in the end, and if neither hunter or fighter fits them, they will become den keepers.
the den keepers: Den keepers are wolves who lacked enough skill in either hunting or fighting, either through a crippling injury or simply wasn't good at it. They stay in the camp at almost all times, cleaning up the camp and the dens, replacing the nests, and bringing food to the mothers, pups, and elders. They are considered the lowest rank in the pack.
the mothers: Mothers are female wolves who are either pregnant or caring for their pups.
the pups: Pups are ranging from newborns to eight months old, remaining under their mother's care and mentorship until they are eight months of age when they become trainees.
the elders: The elders are old wolves retired from their duties within the pack. They are greatly respected, even the former den keepers, because of their age and life experiences. Wolves typically retire at 8 to 9 years of age.
