Heat-derived regeneration

Anise likes to call herself a human phoenix. Instead of harming her, fire and extreme heat allow her to heal unnaturally, sealing wounds shut and even regrowing lost limbs. Being set on fire completely has allowed her to recover from otherwise fatal injuries in the past. That's the 'phoenix' part. As long as she's still alive, the flames can restore her.
Sunlight also works as a healing source, although the rate is slowed significantly to somewhere around one percent. It decreases further if there is cloud cover. Using sunlight alone is generally unreliable, but can be useful in certain situations.
It's unknown whether Anise is immune to smoke inhalation, or the fire just heals the damage to her lungs immediately. She is trying to find a way to test this safely.

☀ Her gift is useful for protecting others. If she gets hurt, she can fix it.
☀ She would work well alongside a fire manipulator for ability synergy.

APPEARANCE

6'0", athletic and muscular

Anise is a woman of imposing stature, tall and broad-shouldered, hard with muscle. Due to her lack of womanly curves and her deep voice, she kept on getting mistaken for a man. She decided to wear her hair long to discourage that. Now she keeps on getting mistaken for a man with long black hair. At this point, she doesn't much care.
During her time living with Anasa Hannes's family, it was clear she was adopted. Her honey complexion gave her away, along with her naturally straight hair. Worst of all was probably her eyes, narrow and knifelike, an unnerving russet hue. She had to wear contacts so the intense dark red tint wouldn't further arouse suspicions.
Nowadays she doesn't bother with contacts. Her eyes look downright inhuman when she's healing anyway. Their color brightens to a fiery red, like two small coals.
When she's using her ability, the affected area appears to glow eerily from within as it heals. The outline of bones can sometimes be seen - definitely creepy. This is best observed when she is using sunlight, healing more gradually. It's hard to see it when she's on fire.

PERSONALITY

Calm and disciplined

Anise gives the impression of being completely emotionless. She is always calm, showing no feeling whatsoever apart from occasional motherly concern or stern disapproval. Maintaining patience seems effortless for her. In fact, she will be polite even when somebody is literally trying to murder her. Even in the heat of a fight, she makes decisions with a clear head, without any emotions clouding her judgment.
In all honesty, this is how Anise deals with the world. She suppresses all her emotions and pretends like she has none. Deep down, she feels awfully wrong being an outcast from society. Anise is a fighter, and she wanted to fight for this world, but this world has rejected her and she has no idea how to feel.
Anise's fighting spirit still needs an outlet, though. She channels it all into protecting the pack of outlawed supernaturals she feels is her family. While she takes defending them very seriously, often dreaming up scenarios of how she could save them from various threats, it's also true she takes everything seriously. Anise does have a tendency to focus overly intently on any given task. Try playing DnD with her and she'll take that seriously, too.

Anasa is able to telepathically speak with plants and animals. He's quite respectful to them, and sometimes passes the time by telling stories to old maple trees.
He can convince most life forms to follow his orders, as long as their self-preservation instincts are respected. For example, Anasa could ask a honeybee to pollinate his garden flowers, but not to sting someone because that would kill the poor bee. He could ask a wasp to sting someone though.
Smarter animals will act of their own will. A standoffish and antisocial old cat would be irritated if Anasa asked it to act all affectionate to some stranger. It would probably spit in his face out of pure spite. However, a friendlier cat might be happy to snuggle up to this random person if Anasa asked nicely.

✾ He'd work well for intelligence-gathering missions. Spying is easy with insects.
✾ His ability combines well with shape-shifters who can't speak in animal forms.

APPEARANCE

6'5", lanky and athletic

One look at Anasa's body type tells you he's a runner, not a fighter. He's long-legged and ridiculously tall, thanks to genetics and a hearty athlete's diet, but he's not particularly broad-shouldered or large. Most of him is lean muscle and bone. Because of his high metabolism and activity, he'd have a hard time gaining weight.
His complexion is a rich brown, and his curly black hair is remarkably soft. His family back home kept a lock of his hair to remember him after he went into hiding.
Anasa has deep golden-brown eyes that light up when he smiles, which is quite often.

✾ He sleeps on his side, so his bedhead hair looks like a lopsided polygon.
✾ Best thing about being outlawed? No one will force him to play basketball.

PERSONALITY

Adventurous and selfless

Anasa is eternally curious and leaves no stone unturned. In a way, he is a child at heart, always trying to discover new weird stuff. Whenever this guy sees or hears something remotely interesting, his first instinct is to explore it. He often tries to encourage others to join him on his misadventures because it's more exciting with company.
Some of his ideas can be rather reckless. However, he genuinely cares about his companions and doesn't want to endanger them. If a situation seems risky, he will insist on going first. He has tremendous respect for the others in his group and recognizes everyone as a valuable member. If someone was to get hurt, he'd blame it on himself.
However, he's not usually a serious guy. Anasa is slow to anger and will usually turn others' insults into jokes. No matter how badly someone slanders him, he will find a way to laugh about it. Then again, he's an optimist at heart. He could probably find a way to laugh about anything.

✾ Once he thanked a tree for the apple he picked. It said "you're welcome".
✾ After finding his gift, he tried asking the family dog to eat his homework...

My favorite holiday is Christmas. ^_^
