Elijah Lee knows that people think he's dumb, but that's okay- they also think he's funny. Every superlative award since daycare has read "Class Clown", and so he doesn't mind too much. He's never not taken a dare, and perhaps his cleverness is under the surface, the way he manages to pull off each prank with spectacular precision. His teachers find him draining, of course, but even when it took them an hour after class every day for three months to make sure he passed their courses, they generally found themselves looking on wistfully when he moved up to the next grade, and out of their stead for good. Elijah has that effect on people- an endearing sort of exasperation, it's been called.
Since starting Hogwarts, though, he's managed himself alright; nothing Prefect-worthy, to be sure, but he's slid along, just enough to pass. He's only needed a handful of tutoring sessions from his friends, just before big tests and the like- although, being mostly Gryffindors themselves, they tend to distract him more often then they teach him. He nearly blew up the class during Second-Year when all he could remember from his studying was that they had definitely added bat spleen when they'd made it together in the Common Room (he had forgotten, of course, that they'd done it on purpose, to see if they could singe off his roommates eyebrows, after he had lost a bet).
Other than being academically-challenged, Elijah is a fairly impressive flyer. Although he never joined a Quidditch team, his fearlessness makes him a wicked Beater whenever he plays an unsanctioned or street game. His favorite class is Care of Magical Creatures, because even though he doesn't exactly get good marks, he thinks the beasts are positively brilliant, and he'd never goof off in a way that would startle them. He knows a lot of people, but he wouldn't exactly say he's got a lot of friends- ever hear "jack of all trades, master of none"? It's like that, but with people. Everybody knows him (be that a good thing or bad), but only a handful could name anything about him, besides some stunt he pulled last year.
He's a fifth-year, about to turn 17 in November (yes, he was held back once- but that was in Nursery School! They said he wasn't "emotionally ready" to move on), and he is positively bursting to see what adventures are in store for him this year. His goal is to have a real date for the Yule Ball this time around (although everyone thought it was hilarious when he dressed his owl in formal gowns and called her his "date" last year), and perhaps to finally plan his long-awaited trek into the Forbidden Forest.
