Name: Tiamat
Age: Appears mid-thirties. In reality, she is older than humanity.
Gender: Female
Species: Babylonian god turned demigod.
Role: Instructor of Sector Three, the Galaxy Residents. She trains them to fight creatures as powerful as she once was, and in battle tactics.
Powers: Tiamat has lost nearly all of her powers in her afterlife. She retains the ability to shapeshift into her serpent form, her hydrokinesis, and her natural aura of chaos. Tiamat has a unique form of hydrokinesis: she can create and control saltwater, but not freshwater. Her serpent/dragon form is a fifty foot draconic beast with rainbow scales and feathered wings. As a dragon, she is lethally venomous and her blood is acid. Tiamat has lost her ability to insight chaos into others, but her mere presence seems to inspire chaos around her. Things tend to break and plans go awry with her near.
Personality: Tiamat is dual natured, just like her two godly roles. She watches people like a snake waiting for the perfect moment to strike. She walks--no,
slinks--silently like a predator. Most who meet her for the first time are frightened or put off. On the other hand, she hosts an informal group therapy session after hours for anyone who wants to talk. She's one of the fiercest protectors of the students at the school. She treats them like they're her own children. She would die for them, any of them, without a second thought. Tiamat is the serpent mother of Xavier's Academy, whether they want her or not.
Background: Tiamat is a primordial creation goddess. She and her lover-counterpart Abzu were the first gods to wake in the Middle East on ancient Earth, long before life crawled onto land. Tiamat woke from the ocean, and Abzu from the freshwater wells and reservoirs under the Middle East. They fell in love and had many children. These new gods were chaotic and frightened Tiamat greatly--they caused chaos everywhere they went.
Abzu grew worried and recommended destroying them, but Tiamat had already fallen in love with her children and hated the idea of harming them. The new gods overheard of his plan and were frightened, but one named Ea created a trap and slayed him. Ea used Abzu's body to create more freshwater in the Middle East, and then used his heart to create the god Marduk. Ea recognized immediately that Marduk was more powerful than any other god and was delighted.
Meanwhile, Tiamat learned that her great-great-grandson had killed her husband. Distraught, she decided that she had to destroy them all. She created eleven new dragons and filled their blood with acid. She picked a new consort to rule by her side, Kingu. She gave Kingu the three Tablets of Destiny, incredibly powerful documents that declared any who owned them to be the supreme ruler of the gods (the Babylonian gods, that is. They only rule over this section of Earth). With eleven dragons, Kingu, and herself, Tiamat waged war upon the other gods.
When Tiamat went to war, she realized that, once again, the young gods had spied on her and set a plan. Marduk arrived to the battlefield decked out in fire and wielding a bow, mace, a net, aerokinesis, and lightning. Marduk easily used the net to trap Tiamat and quickly slain her with his other weapons.
Now dead, Tiamat watches Marduk use her body to create the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, and use Kingu's blood to spread life over the land, which spawned these weak beings called humans. She watched as these weak beings dubbed Marduk the ruler of the gods and worshipped him as if he wasn't a murderer. She watches this from Irkalla, the underworld, plotting to break out and kill them all and rule the whole planet. But she couldn't: Irkalla strips the spirits of their power as they pass from the world of the living to the world of the dead. Tiamat was as weak as the humans she hated.
Over the millenia Tiamat watched the humans learn and grow. She saw their wars, their inventions, and saw them pass from worshipping Marduk to other gods. She started to see them as further descendants (which they were, technically) and fell in love with them. They were like eternal children; their lives but a blink of her eye. Tiamat gave up her plan for revenge.
And then she woke up on the beach of Warbah Island, Kuwait. Tiamat has no idea why she was resurrected after all this time. With no idea what to do or where to go, she gathered some funds by stealing and selling valuable Marduk statues and offerings (she still hates him). Eventually she had heard of an academy for heroes of all types in America, and they were looking for teachers. She had watched these heroes from Irkalla and knew they needed help. Tiamat decided that the Academy was the best place for her in this new world.
