imagine a place where you can taste the sea on the wind.
where sirensong exists in the form of beckoning waves lulling you to sleep.
where the air is cool and the horizon stretches for eternities into the blue.

welcome to the kingdom of empyris.

a small kingdom though it is, it is a place of peace. a sleepy little kingdom by the edge of the sea, cliffside and overlooking the waters surrounding it. one might say it's a location straight out of a fairy tale— and that would not be incorrect. with the delicate opalescent pillars that make up the castle, the capital glimmers brightly in the sun. the pearl of the coast, many would say. an ideal location for weary travelers to rest their heads, to sit upon the roofs of the city and watch the sun set on the ashe sea. its sea ports bring in all kinds of foreigners, exotic goods, and stories of lands far away, as told by the many merchants loitering around the pubs and inns. empyris, for this reason, is something of a microcosm of life and culture; all things, all people belong here.

the villages surrounding the castles are quaint, humble little places where life slows to a pleasant stroll. cottages dot the countryside with their thatched roofs and many country-dwellers raise livestock on the abundant green pastures and grassy knolls. these are the outskirts of the capital, stretching far until the alder mountain range. though treacherous the mountains are, small populations of cliff-dwellers reside in them, isolated from the rest of empyris. unlike their counterparts down near the sea, these folks have much more archaic beliefs, keeping alive traditions of old in their solitude.

between the mountains and the capital lies a vast forest known as the forest of iris, said by many to be enchanted. little is known about the forest formally, but folklore has much to say about such mysterious woods. still, despite the rumors, a fair handful of individuals make their home within the cover of trees, preferring the privacy and sanctity of the woods to the hustle and bustle of village life.
