Its been ten years since the children started to disappear from from the small town of Rockcrop. They were all taken from their classes during school, not knowing it would be the last time they’d remember seeing their peers faces. The children’s ages varied from 5-13, their heights, genders, builds, and ethnicities were all varied. They were taken to a lab where they were locked in chambers. The children were poked with needles, tested on, and disposed of for years, untill the scientists had perfected their formula, and merged the dna of the first shifters. They were meant to be weapons of war, and their memories of their families were wiped completely. They simply remembered each other, and the lab, and the way the scientists had always treated them. Fifty-three children went missing, but only eleven survived. Those eleven learned the scientists’ ways, and they revolted. They unlocked their cells, and escaped, using the very abilities the researchers had given them.
Quickly, the scientists labeled them as dangerous, and unpredictable, because they solely wanted the shifters returned to their clutches. They illustrated the shifters as inhumane savages, and the town believed it. They began to rally together, collecting ammunition and weapons, because of their fear of the unknown. The shifters caught wind of this, and fled into the Fyre mountains, where they now live peacefully, but in fear of the humans coming at any moment.
The humans live in fear everyday that the “ferocious” shifters will attack them, and kill their children and families. The scientists have told them how the shifters stole away their children, to make them into shifters, because a simple bite can turn any human into one of the “heartless” creatures. The scientists have blamed their mistakes on the shifters, and have continued their experiment by polluting the spring that many of the townspeople drink from with the drugs they used on the shifters to mess with their DNA, which has only had an effect on children so far. Any child that drinks the tap water has a ten percent chance of turning shifter, and as they turn, they’re driven out of Rockcrop, no matter how young they are, and left to die. Most of the time, the shifters can rescue them and bring them to their camp, but other times-it’s too late.
One things for sure, a war is brewing in Rockcrop, for both sides are in fear, and fear causes humans to do stupid things, without thinking about their actions. Humans come into the forest, and kill shifters on patrols. Shifters try desperately to maintain peace, but when they defend theirselves, it’s turned against them. Maybe the scientists will come clean, or maybe the shifters will reveal their true colors, that they’re just as human as the rest of the citizens of Rockcrop. Or perhaps the humans will kill the shifters, untill there’s not one left. Only time will tell.
