Mustangs have roamed our hills in America since way before settlers came. They are the beauty of the plains, the speed of the wind, the strength of the mountain. But civilization has changed. Where there were wagon trails, there are roads. Cabins in the woods became huge cities with towering skyscrapers. Pollution levels sky-rocketed. And yet humans could not see all the damage they were doing. Don't the mustangs have a right to be? So an endangered animal conservation group got together and created Project Mustang Restoration. They pooled money, along with donations and profits from bake sales and such. With all the money they raised, the group bought a huge plot of land no one wanted. It was too hilly - no suitable land for housing. The ground wasn't suitable for crops, either. The mountains and hillsides on the property were rocky and nearly impossible for humans to climb. Not to mention, plenty of abandoned barns and gardening shacks remained on the property from long ago. It was perfect for mustangs. Next, they spread their idea all over TV, radio, the internet, a blog, social media platforms. Anyone who had a horse to donate to the cause was welcome. Sick or healthy, young or old, purebred or crossbred. Any horse was accepted. Many were horses from horse rescues that hadn't found new homes yet. Others were retired racehorses. Some were amazing horses that simply didn't have a good attitude. Horses were dropped off daily, until the end of the program. They were kept in five huge abandoned barns on the property - separated by gender for now. They had hundreds of horses. The groups gathered volunteers. A sturdy electric fence, ten feet high was built around the property. The fourth step is about to happen. The stable doors will be opened, and you. A horse, abandoned here by your owners, or donated. Whatever your past, your breed, your age, we're all in this together. We will be free. Free for a long, long time until our population rises.
Really, its up to us, though. We decide what to do.
We decide if our population will dwindle and burn out like a candle.. Or spread like a wildfire.
Who knows? Will we become extinct?
Or will we be restored?
