history: Half clan, half kitty-pet, Whitekit was rebuked by her classmates. The she-cat never met her mother, but when her father decided that the forest was no place for a kitten, he fetched him from her adoptive mother's belly. Careful not to wake the nursing queen, the large tom cat traveled to the two-leg place and passed her along to her real mother, Olive; who she would be meeting for the first time. Whitekit's twolegs renamed her Doe and soon her mother was calling her by her two-leg name. She had grown to accept it. A few sunrises passed of confinement, and the energetic kit disliked the two-leg place. She desired to be back home with her clan-mates, and rejected her mother's affections. Taken off of nursing to early, she found it hard to eat hard pellets and lost weight drastically. The two-legs put her inside a brown container with a silver mesh lid. Doe cowered at the back of the strange two-leg nest as she was taken from her mother. She was brought to another two-leg nest, where there were scents of dogs and other cats. Her fur bushed up, she swatted and slashed at any twoleg who attempted to coax her out of the brown container. Grabbed by her scruff, she went limp, powerless to even squirm. She felt a pinch, as something cold slid into her forepaw. Darkness covered her. When she woke up, she was back with Olive. Her feet felt weird, like they were in pain. On fire. Several sunrises of falling asleep, and awake, the pain finally passed. She extended her paws to observe for pain, but instead, found her fore-paws clawless. She let out a wail, and as her mother came to tend to her she bared her razor-edged fangs and lashed her tail. "How could you let them do this?" Doe demanded. Without another word to her mother, the kit launched herself out of what Olive had called a window, and landed on the soft grass below. Pleasure ran through her spine, the soft feeling of grass taking her thoughts away from the fact that she was clawless. Checking her hind quarters, she watched as her lengthy claws slid out, and a sigh of relief escaped her maw. The kittypet tracked her way back home, asking both friendly and unfriendly rogues and two-legs alike about the forest cats that most blew off as a rumor. Unwilling to get up, Doe discovered her clan, right where she had left them at barely two moons old. Shock ebbed the faces of her clan-mates, but there were hard, unwelcoming glares from cats she knew and didn't know. She searched for her father, but her gaze landed only on a frail elder she had played with, Ravensong. He shook his crown, and Doe immediately dropped hers. Her shoulders sagged, and her gaze was glazed with grief.
Sunrises passed, and Doe was once again renamed to Softpaw, where she served her clan as an marauder apprentice for much longer than the others. She had missed much in her moons away, and without claws, she withdrew the bickers and taunts of her clan mates. "Kittypet!" "What do you think they'll name her? Noclaw? "Probably Softpaws!" She raised her head above their bullying; she was determined to be the best marauder should could be, no matter how long she had to train.
But despite her efforts, Softpaw could not be a marauder. She belonged in the nursery, or with the other sorcerer, where her soft paws might be helpful. She became withdrawn, shy, nervous and mostly antisocial; talking only to her mentor, Crowfall; who might as well have been her only friend. Last edited by
