▶ personality/history combined: lets get one thing straight... grim is not actually a grim reaper, he's not going to go around aggressively stealing mares, forcing mares into his herd, if anything he's quite the opposite. he got his name because his father pilgrim, a black pinto stallion, was a cruel cold male, who wanted to raise colts with just as cruel names to fit their personality, his dam wasn't exactly much better, with a name of corrie, not mean or nasty it seems, but the mare was as cruel if not worse than his sire, she had no mothering traits, and neither did his father, from day one he had to fight for everything, if he didn't prove his worth, by standing within minutes, doing as he was told immediately, his dam wouldn't feed him that day, and would kick at him should he dare to try. by the time he was 3 months of age, he had to spar with the other colts, his brothers, sometimes even his sisters, if he lost... his sire would punish him, make him realise how pathetic he was. it was then he decided he wouldn't be a push over, he wouldn't let others tell him what to do, he wouldn't give second chances. from that day he focused on all his sires fights, learning everything he possibly could, and in turn, he never lost a spar with his brothers, almost killing two when things got out of control in the spring he turned one, his sire however, proud of him, only praised him, and so grim become hungry for praise, and so he got stronger, learnt faster, became quicker, earned his fathers respect, not one of his sires colts had ever earned his sires respect, and there was good reason. when the year came that grim turned three, having stayed an year longer than his brothers, he respectfully left his fathers herd on command. five years later, when his sire an old 18 year old male growing weaker by the day, but still strong enough to take grim down if he didn't pay attention, grim took advantage of all those times he watched his father fight, and come the time when he challenged his father, well, who'd of thought an eight year old, stallion would take down an experienced stallion, his father had slowed down, and arthritis had set in from old injuries, he packed several decent punches on grim, a few leaving scars across his hind quarters and shoulders, but in the end, grim had won the fight and set off with his sires herd, with no need to remove his mother from the herd as she passed in the last year he'd been apart of the herd.
grim held onto one of the largest herds, consisting of twelve mares and his young for 5 years, over the years he lost a mare here and there whether from nature, or a stallion stealing a mare while he was distracted. but it was a fire after a dry storm in the drought that took down his herd. the fire burned for weeks until the rain came. he'd been separated from three quarters of his herd when his foolish lead mare lead them into a dead end. he stole off with two of his mares, abandoning his lead mare with the rest of the group who'd been cut off from the fire, with nothing he could physically do without burning to death, he moved his two mares to safety. over two weeks, the intoxication of smoke killed the younger of the two mares, and nearly killed himself and his second mare, while they recovered, in the winter, the older mare of seventeen, grew weak, and while he stayed with her for a few days, the cold stole her from him and he left her.
what needs to be understood is that grim craves praise, he craves someone to be proud of him, to feel accomplishment. without this, grim can become cold, cruel and blunt. he's not naturally a mean stallion, if anything he promised to be the opposite of his sire, he loves each of his mares individually, and will try to find time for each and every one of them. however, should he feel a mare is truly disobeying him, ignoring him, or not giving him quite what he wants, he won't hesitate to cause an issue with her. for while he is a kind loving stallion, he can't change how he was raised, and how it affected him. if your ask to do something, you do it immediately, you don't hesitate, and you don't give second chances. grim has a big heart full of warm emotions, but he hides them until he feels it necessary to show them. note, he is not the best, he is not the smartest, he is not the bravest... no one is, but he spent three years of his life, focusing, practising, perfecting every move he could possibly learn from his sire, things 9/10 colts don't bother with until they turn three years. so in that department, yeah, he might be quicker in his fight, he might land better hits... but it doesn't mean he necessarily wins all the time, he lost three mares in the years he held his sires herd, as he'd gotten cocky, and sloppy in his fighting. in that fight he learnt never to get ahead of himself and never think that the fight was over until it was actually over. so don't mess around with grim unless you are 100% sure you will win. because chances are... your in for one heck of a fight that is just not looking up for you.
