due to being born such a long time ago, gwen is often seen as 'old fashioned' which only amuses her since she is just so old. she is regal, confident in everything that she does, and demands the respect a queen like her deserves. she may not be a queen as of the present, but she had been for many years before joining the coven in town and it's a hard thing to forget. she's often called the 'mother of vampires' even though she's not an original, but she has created countless 'children' over her long life and views all vampires younger than her as her children. as a highborn lady, she expects many things such as the best of whatever she desires, but has since adapted to the modern age, though she still very much acts like the highborn that she is. gwen despises being lied to and has been known to take the tongues of those who dare lie to her face.
she doesn't hold any hatred towards all werewolves like so many may believe due to her being a vampire, she actually hates the old myth and will get angry if questioned about it. she'd had a strong alliance with werewolves in france when she ruled the covens there, but had to cut ties after leaving for the coven she's currently stuck in. she only holds a hatred towards the werewolves who murder those in her current coven, but it has faded over the years since she has started to dislike the coven herself for having such a disregard for human life.
unlike the other vampires in the coven, gwen isn't fond of attacking unsuspecting humans and 'stealing' their blood to satisfy herself. she always asks permission before drinking and will only take small amounts as to not harm her donor. gwen only ever drains animals, never humans, if she needs more that what a donor could give and always drops the meat off to whomever needs it. anonymously of course. she rather despises vampires who drain their human victims and don't care about keeping them healthy, making her rather unpopular in the coven since they all seem to enjoy slaughtering those in the town. just because she is forced to live with 'monsters' doesn't mean she has to act like one as well.

gwen was born in the 9th century to a highborn lord and lady somewhere in either ireland or scotland, she doesn't remember exactly where. her life was quite easy for most of her youth until she was attacked by her own betrothed. she had been promised to a young english lord when she turned eighteen and spent a year planning and waiting for the right moment to move to england to marry. sometime during that year, her fiance had been turned into a vampire by one of the originals and since he had been a young fledgling, he had no self-control when he came to collect gwen for their travel to england. gwen had injured her leg while riding the day before he came, her horse having spooked at a loose dog and thrown her off. the injury was a minor one, but was still bleeding a little when her fiance came. the tiny bit of blood set him off and he attacked her the moment he smelt it. gwen would have been completely drained if her father hadn't stabbed the englishman through the heart, killing him.
unfortunately, gwen was on death's door after the attack and would have not survived the blood loss if it wasn't for one of the original vampires saving her by turning her. the original that saved her didn't stick around so gwen was left to fend for herself. as a new fledgling, she wasn't able to control her newfound bloodlust and she ended up slaughtering the nurses caring for her as well as most of the servants before fleeing from her home. it took her a long time to hone her skills and gain control over her bloodlust, but in the end she did and is able to be around someone bleeding terribly without feeling the slightest twinge of hunger. gwen did end up moving to england at some point, though it was much later. nearly a hundred years later. she earned a name for herself after climbing the ranks of english royal court quite easily and quickly. gwen has had many names over her long life, quite a few of which are in history books as both nobility and royalty. she acquired the name 'gwenevieve' after two of her past names were mixed up several times so she just merged them. her most well-known alias was that of 'guinevere' the wife of king arthur, a human that was only a tool for her to gain more power. the stories in the history books don't quite grasp everything that happened during her reign nor the whole story with arthur and lancelot.
gwen moved to ireland after her supposed 'death' as queen quinevere and once again climbed the political and social ladders with ease and speed. instead of earning power over humans, gwen became the queen of the vampires in both ireland and the united kingdom [or what would become the united kingdom] after she started to help them learn to live without making themselves known. it didn't take long before word spread about the vampire queen and such whispers reached the originals. gwen was approached by the original who had saved her and after a long talk, which was more like them telling her what to do, she 'agreed' to join the coven that two of the siblings were leading. she wasn't very thrilled about leaving her throne and becoming a follower, but she didn't have much of a choice since her sire had told her to. gwen has only been with the coven for a few years and has more or less hated every moment. her followers back home constantly send letters asking her to return to them and she's getting more and more tempted to return to them, even if it would make her sire very unhappy.
