Arroyo was born into a loving family, showered with every attention and privilege his parents could give him. He showed a love for swimming and water at a very early age, proving to be a very strong and healthy child.
Of course, his parents’ attention became divided when his little sister was born, when he was four, which meant that Arroyo had less time to go out and play. Yet, he did not become bored, occupying himself with looking after Nina, who was – at the time – a rather sickly and frail thing. He came to love her very much, finding her too sweet to hate.
As Nina grew older, her health bettered and she was gradually let out more, until she was strong enough to keep up with Arroyo’s rough and tumble games. However, she also proved to be more organised and intelligent than her brother.
When Arroyo was 14 he became accepted as Fisherman and was excited at the prospect of finally being out on the sea more. The first day he was to set to go out though, Nina tried following him, eager to stay with her brother, but she ended up almost drowning and Arroyo barely managed to save her in time, but he still did.
After several years of pulling more than his weight, Roy began working his way up, until he was offered a position as second-in-command, which he gladly accepted. His willingness to do what it took to provide for the clan became even more evident, though it became bordered with recklessness, as he was determined to prove that he could do what he was tasked to do.
When the storm hit, Arroyo’s parents were bent on making sure that he and his younger sister remained safe. However, this led to his mother’s death, as the waves crashed in and swept her out to sea, leaving her to drown. Her body was never recovered.
Arroyo’s father became absolutely grief-stricken and started to isolate himself more and more, until barely his own children even saw him. He eventually died alone and without even a word to his son and daughter.
Arroyo and Nina were left to grieve for a few days, but they knew that they were now on their own and had to rely on each other for support. It was partially Arroyo who convinced Nina to become a hunter, finding great promise in her intelligence and so far they have proved to be an unstoppable team.

Essentially a ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ kind of guy, one would think that Arroyo isn’t necessarily fit to be a second-in-command. He often charges, headlong, into the fray, without hesitation, without planning. Thus, he can easily be described as reckless, however he is not disobedient. Hawkins is very loyal his leader and his people, following every order, albeit in his own fashion. He does get the job done, but not always in the way he is told.
Besides this, Arroyo can be flirtatious and manipulative, shooting a wide grin and a smile at anyone and everyone, making him quite the ladies’ man, fitting perfectly into the rugged ‘tall, dark and handsome’ look.
Always wisecracking, you can trust Arroyo to joke at the worst times and, more often than not, he will use sarcasm as one of his favourite weapons, finding ways to irritate anyone he chooses. Depending on how much he likes you, Roy will treat you accordingly, either speaking to you with nothing but insults, or complimenting you every time you blink.

The first face Nina came to recognise best was her brother’s as he spent much of his time with her, making sure that she felt comfortable and safe. As such, she came to idolise Arroyo, delighting in his affection for her. But she was still rather weak during her early years, leaving her feeling rather lonely when Arroyo went out to play. Her mother noticed this quickly and introduced Nina to drawing and Nina spent all her free time working on several projects at once. However, her art proved to be rather interesting: being either rather morbid and concerning, or very mathematical and precise. It wasn’t until later that her parents realised that they were plans for various traps and inventions.
When Nina’s health began to improve and she was finally let outside, she would follow her brother like a little puppy and was willing to try everything he did. However, while she was able to cope with more strenuous activities, she finally realised they had begun to bore her and she started doing things differently, as her high intelligence shone through. She even confused her brother in her ramblings and left many others bewildered.
Of course, Nina was extremely happy when Arroyo got what he wanted, but she couldn’t help feeling a slight sadness, knowing that now Arroyo would have other responsibilities to attend to.
Which was what caused her to stow away on Arroyo’s ship. But she was ill-suited to being out at sea and soon felt sick again. In her dizziness, she didn’t realise that she had knocked something over and a rather sharp metal object was going to fall on her, until it slammed into her face and left the scar across her forehead and down her chin. This also left her unconscious and she fell out of the boat and Arroyo barely managed to reach her in time.
She was taken home immediately and forbidden to ever go near the sea again and her parents made sure that she remained on the island at all times.
This left Nina to her own devices again and she continued her drawings and blueprints. But, with this restraint on her mental prowess, she started to go slightly insane.
When the storm hit, Nina’s parents were bent on making sure that she and Arroyo remained safe. However, this led to her mother’s death, as the waves crashed in and swept her out to sea, leaving her to drown. Her body was never recovered.

As Arroyo was already deputy, he was able to get Nina into becoming a huntswoman. She learned mastery of several weapons very quickly and but Arroyo found promise in her tactical brilliance as well, leading her to return to her sketches and build several snares and traps, guaranteed to catch any animal. Nina herself has taken to adoring small critters, particularly her pet Acorn and she is sometimes seen conversing with smaller animals.

Nina is a genius, but she'll never admit it and probably doesn't even realise it. She takes after Arroyo in some areas, especially her flirtatiousness and mischief-making. She also depends on him quite heavily in all emotional matters, as she has trouble understanding them herself. Despite this, she can be empathetic, but usually only to a certain degree.
Her curiousity knows no bounds and is certainly intrigued by the arrival of the mermaids, though she knows to keep her distance for the present, despite her burning desire to meet and possibly even study one.

In this role play it is extremely rare for humans and mer-people to reproduce with each other due to the many conflicts that happen between the two species. Most purebred mermaids' births are mysterious, they just wake up one day at the bottom of the ocean without a name or any memories. Halfbred offsprings have a 75% chance of being a human so it is very rare for a mermaid to be produced from these relationships.

edit:: purebred mermaids have long lives, living between a hundred to a hundred and fifty without aging. Halfbred mermaids, on the other hand, age like humans.

divyashi is the most vicious of the whole pod. she dwells in the depths of the sea. easily cutting herself off from others, going solo, and declining to help anyone and anything. divyashi has narrowed eyes adjusted for the advanced darkness of being so deep underwater no sunlight can reach her. unlike other mermaids, divyashi not only feeds on coral and sea plants but she is prone to attack her counterparts. she doesn't share anything. divyashi's tail possess strong and intense dark shades of maroon, purple and black. she as well has thick insulated skin to withstand the freezing temperatures of the deep. she is intensly territorial in the cove, claiming the dark depths as her own. she isn't afraid to attack another mermaid if they hunt in her area. the least to most fatal injury a fellow tribe member can suffer are some missing scales, scratches and a fatally broken tail fin. because the humans killed her sister, divyashi has wrecked havoc to their naval ships. she smacks their propellers with her strong tail, smashing it beyond repair. this has angered the humans on the cove. she has a big bounty on her head. because of her risky actions, she often injures her tail and needs to return to the ocean floor to sleep and recover. to hunt divyashi, men have to have excellent hunting skills and vision. equipped with a tailored ring from ship wreckages and metal parts that fall into the ocean, divyashi has created a claw like ring that she wears when defending her territory. it extends from her knuckle down to her fingertip on both of her index fingers and inflict serious danger to her opponent or whatever poor animal is caught stealing from her. tail sometimes the pod refers to her as shark for her aggressive behavior, despite the creatures being quite docile.

a young brandon brenton, "anderson" had encountered mermaid queen vesa at a very young age around 14, old enough to be able to fathom such a beautiful creature. vesa saved him and the boy did no harm and was left on the shore. anderson's captive detail about them in great elegant detail, describing vesa as a strong creature, but capable of great power and beauty, to create choas and kill enemies but a face tame enough to seduce a married sober sailor that that tribes man were after the mermaids, fortune fame and a tail or some scales.

anderson is a young man, with eager and passion to match a soldier in a heated war. however, when isolated he thinks deeply, and makes wise desicions. as he grew, his desire to go after the mermaids emerged. he however was part of a crew to earn money. he hasn't encountered the mermaids since vesa saved him, but if he were to find her again, he'd want to learn about them. his curiosity may get him killed. however, it may be discovered soon that anderson's desire to know more allows him to privatly protect them. he'll pursue the truth on his own if he must. anderson was raised by his uncle, for his father was too drunk and abusive to do that. his uncle died a horrible death burning on a boat at sea. the sailors who survived claimed the mermaids were responsible. anderson seeks the truth, because after the death of his uncle, anderson had to live with his father.

nova is partially quiet. she is not fond of drawing vesa's attention. nova would regret not kissing another mermaid. she doesn't really know what affecion is but observes it in the sisterhood of her pod. nova admires the way mermaids swim, the elegance in their tail strokes and the flexibility of their body. nova is a young mermaid and sometimes she has trouble swimming because of her tail. she doesn't really like being a mermaid because their as so many limited things she can do but she fears being a human. nova loves to take her fellow sisters to see the dolphins and to swim to a lagoon near by. nothing is more exhilirating then racing with nova, she enjoys the thrill of the chase. secretly nova fears legs and stays clear of them. she has nightmares that she will become a human and will never be able to return to the sea. this fear causes her to stay clear of man. . tail
