Yes, gray is not a coat color base, it is a modifier. All gray horses are born with a base color and as they grow up they will turn grey/get lighter
Example: My girl Pepper is gray, but she was born bay. Her base coat color is bay. As she gets older she gets lighter in color. Right now she is a rose gray, but each year she gets lighter ans lighter as her hair loses pigmentation and eventually all of her hairs will be white. So even though she is gray, and eventually looks white, she does not have a base coat color of gray, she's a bay with a color modifier of gray.
Silver dapple is not allowed in Hanoverians. The three base colors are black, bay and chestnut for Hanoverians. Princess was born either black, bay, or chestnut with the graying gene.
