Bayclaw was carried away by the river so she was probably assumed dead

So i'd say it went like this

Petalpelt and Bayclaw left one morning to go out looking for herbs.
Afternoon came and as it dragged on everyone got worried as they should have been back a while ago
When they went out to look for them they found only Petalpelt who Bayclaw had managed to fish out but not save in time
Bayclaw was gone but the river was still raging
Pebblepool, their mother, in her grief declared they both must have died. She spiraled into a depression and unable to cope Brighteyes ran away.
Pebblepool then died from her grief which drove her mate to do the same.
Orphaning Rainykit who was left with nothing more than stories of her three big amazing sisters

I'd like to think before the rp started Rainykit always begged for stories of her sisters and always tried her best to train and be the best warrior she could. Because she wanted to be just like them and make them proud of her. Before Bayclaw returned she probably wanted to be called Rainypelt or Rainyclaw like Petalpelt or Bayclaw

I imagine Briar was somewhat jealous of Petal despite them being friends, on account of wanting Desert's affection. But when Petal passed away, she's felt guilty about it ever since.
