The house was rather small, petite but the yard was a brilliant size, one you could truly enjoy stretching your legs in. It was here that Anubis was born, curled up against his mother’s stomach. She was older, white rimming her muzzle, this was meant to be her last litter, and of course it would be, but Anubis had been the only pup to survive. He was small, unusually small in fact, and she worried he would not survive but as the first month past and the pup grew, relief settled in the mother’s heart. He learned quickly, a smart pup and often followed around his older sister Akira and older brother Nuki. They taught their little brother all they could, from sit and lay down, to the perfect way to ask to go inside. They were show dogs, not pets, or so that was what their humans said, but at the end of the day even the humans loved them. Anubis was four months old when he discovered he would never be a show dog like his siblings or parents, he was much too small, not the right stature to truly show. It disappointed him, but his siblings kept his spirits high with chatter of how lame showing was, and they weren’t wrong. As time went on he became more adventurous and more independent. He would slide of the yard during the day, always to return before the humans came home. His world crumbled at six months old when his father passed away due to cancer. He left with the humans and never returned, his mother told the pups of their father’s death. It was shortly after that the world beneath his paws shook with such ferocity the pup stumbled, rolling several feet from the place where his mother stood. He watched with horror as the building shuttered, collapsing atop his mother. Her shriek reverberated through his ears, shock overwhelming him. He hardly noticed when Akira grasped his scruff in her strong, powerful jaws and darted forward, taking him deep within the forest. When he came too, the earth was still and Akira and Nuki were curled around him, pelts standing on end, their eyes closed as if they were in slumber. He prodded each with a paw until both their eyes flickered open, their muzzles pressing firmly into his. The three stayed together for a long period of time until the day Akira decided to form a pack, watching as the others formed their own. Anubis chose to stay with Nuki, their bond strengthening as time went on. They skirted Akira’s pack, often watching her from afar but neither tried to approach her. It wasn’t until he turned a year old, when he had no choice but to talk to Akira again. During a nightly hunt, the newly formed street pack came along Nuki and Anubis. With teeth flashing in the moonlight, they aimed their jaws for the necks of the dogs before them. Both were able to maneuver around them but there was no way the two were getting out alive and suddenly, Anubis was rolling down the side of hill, having been nudged away by his brother in an attempts to save the pups life. Nuki, now four years old, was killed by the Street dogs, his blood seeping into the ground. Anubis awaited morning before he returned to Nuki’s body. He lay there in silence with his brother for hours, until the sun began to set behind the remains of the city. It was then that he sought out Akira and her pack. Despite finding her, he refused to join her, hell bent on revenge for Nuki’s death, however he constantly followed the pack and has ever sense then, determined to keep Akira safe, even if she does not need it.
