Melanie is quite intelligent for her lack of education but that also comes along with being very head strong with the occasional rash decision. She appears to be a very cold and sadistic person considering that helps her get along without betrayal but once you get to know her or gain her trust she'll open up as a pretty nice person with quite a bit of decency.
As a child she was born to a water element mother and a water father but after a while the signs that she didn't have her parents element began to show a little too much. The girl was around four years old when her parents made the 'painstaking' decision to give her away and after that a home for wayward children picked her up. Within a few days Melanie turned five and took off onto the streets where she learned if she willed herself the darkness would hide her and she would practically melt away to the shadows. Using her new capability she learned the new ways of her element as she would sometimes steal a loaf of bread or get temporary shelter.

Mercury tends to be a quiet person when she isn't commanding warriors or talking to somebody with a higher position. For her age she very loyal and knows her boundaries well with the exception of sometimes being reprimanded by higher officials. A dorky fun teenager lays beneath her title and loyal personality but its something she cant every express considering how she is expected to behave.
When Mercury had just been born her father was promoted to second in command but was soon killed in an 'accident'. As a child she was expected to follow in her fathers footsteps since her mother became quick to a bottle every night without her husband. She went through school quite diligently and joined the "army" right after she turned thirteen only to find out her mother died of alcohol poisoning a year later. Once she was nineteen she took the place of the second in command who was murdered by a band of rebellious loners.
