Growing up Katarina would often hear the story of how her parents had met; how her father had been transformed into a polar bear and courted her mother only to be separated by an enchantment that led her mother to travel across the globe to find the castle east of the sun west of the moon in order to reclaim her one true love. It was her favourite story and she would often fall asleep listening to her mother's voice and holding onto her fathers warm hand. Surrounded by love Katarina was raised with the grace and poise of a princess, the sharp wit and compassion of a king, and the adventurous and persevering spirit of any explorer. Though tempered through years of lessons and etiquette it was obvious that she'd inherited her mothers rather inquisitive and impulsive nature meaning that no matter what it was Katarina just had to know. Having had years to attempt to change this facet of herself Katarina has had very little luck in toning down her curiosity and though it may not be the best quality for a queen she's accepted that it's not likely to change. While she inherited her mothers looks (and faults) Katarina has inherited a rather strange gift from her father, though she can't change into a polar bear it was discovered when she was three that Katarina could talk to them. Not many people who meet Moyra can say they expect her to be anything but the shy quiet shut-in however when they meet the fiery red head they quickly learn she is not all she appears to be. At first Moyra tends to be rather cold and while people can interpret this as her being snobby she's actually watching and listening to those around her, assessing her situation as it were. When she speaks she keeps it short and to the point, mincing words is an art for the deceitful and though she's learned to recognize it in others she refuses to resort to it herself. Solving many of her problems with words or looks when Moyra must resort to violence you'd best not find yourself at the end of her blade, inheriting the grace and speed of the fae makes her a deadly (slight) foe in combat. Adept with magic Moyra has learned the art for the sole purpose of defense wether of her people or herself and unless either or both are in danger she refuses to use it.

Raised to hate humans Nerissa was taught to use her gift to sink any ship that was unlucky enough to cross into the siren's waters, unwittingly or not. Believing that her parentage made her superior to the measly humans who dashed themselves upon the rocks at the sound of her song, even now knowing that she's half human Nerissa behaves as if she is the best thing you've ever some across. At the age of ten Nerissa was sinking vessels on her own and in fact nearly sunk her father's ship when he came to retrieve her, however luckily (or unluckily) her mother, Calypso, stopped her and allowed the pirate to set foot on the island. In the beginning Nerissa was not overly fond of her father or his crew, the only person she seemed to take an interest in was her half sister Claudia who was also half siren. Through her sister and eventually her father Nerissa learned to sword fight, chart and navigate the stars, sail through any storm, and anything else a pirate worth her salt would know.
