gender; agender. often associates his forms with masculinity.
age; often appears in his late teens, early twenties.
species; changeling - an ancient race of humanoids who have the ability to change form at will. oftentimes, changeling mimic the forms of those around them. they are fair hiders, able to turn into inanimate objects in addition to living creatures and plants. capable of mimicking voices and clothes. in their basic shape, they are formless, appearing to be shadow-like with no defined figure. in the olden days, changeling were marked as demons, given the unnatural way their eyes glowed red when in their default form. how to distinguish a changeling; their eyes are unnaturally dark when submerged in darkness, and turning on a flashlight and shining it in their eyes will force them to flash red. the basic shape is naturally weak against sunlight and brightness, however other forms aren't. in folktales, changeling babies were often swapped with humans. other than the eye thing, it's relatively hard to diagnose this changeling as a non-human. he looks, smells, moves, and has a presence like a homo-sapient.

history; jaro was born an incredibly long time ago, swapped out at birth with a human baby. the 'son' of two czech farmers, he adopted the alias they had given in, and lifted out his life as a human for around twenty years or so. his changeling abilities were always present, however his parents were both firm disbelievers of folktales, and so looked the other way when something unusual happened. it wasn't until he was twenty or so that he met another of his species, a female masking herself as a humanoid. disappearing into the night after that, jj traveled with the girl, as she taught him about their species. eventually the two departed. years passed, and jaro wandered the lands, gaining a fair amount of skilled. he traveled throughout europe and asia, before eventually making his way over to america. since then, he's been a wanderer.

Personality: Jacob is a very kind person, often doing his best to help people. He is hotheaded often rushing into things without thinking first. He is very friendly and will open up to almost anyone. He avoids lying if possible and tries not to harm anyone in any way, but when his friends are in danger he won't hesitate to destroy the threat. Since his sisters death and raising his brother he can become protective of those close to him.
History: Jake was the eldest of three, the next being his brother, and the last his sister. He was 3 when his brother was born and eight when his sister was born. He was 12 when his sister Liz died at the age of 4 due to a disease. His parents became empty shells in their grief and Jake was forced to take care of his brother. He took care of his brother all the way up to present day when he went up into the mountain.

☾ unlike most of the supernatural beings that reside in this forest, Winter has lived here for her entire life. after she was born, she was raised partially by her parents, but mostly by different wolf packs that wandered through. a good question to ask is why she can shift between a human and wolf form, while the rest of her species is permanently trapped in wolf-like bodies. well, for the answer to this question, you can look at Winter's ancestral bloodline. on both sides of her family, on more than one occasion, there's been the introduction of werewolf genes. though her bloodline is still dominated by okuri-inu ancestry, there's still enough werewolf in her to allow shifting between two forms.

☾ an okuri-inu is a wolf-like creature from Japanese folklore. they were feared by all who lived in mountains, for they were notorious stalkers. the okuri-inu followed hikers close they walked through their territory at night, attacking and eating them if they fell or tried to run away. stories describe them as having an interesting relationship with another creature, the yosuzume. its eerie nocturnal call is often a warning to the hiker that an okuri-inu is following them.

☾ winter's abilities with her species goes along with that seen in a wolf. this includes enhanced agility and smell, increased speed and stealth, sensitive hearing and sight, as well as the ability to see in the dark. she can also transform into a large, black wolf with yellow eyes. in her human form, the wolf-like appearance of her canines is still slightly noticeable.
