In Grace's mom's world being called male is an insult. Its like being called an idiot or worse because an Amazon woman according to mythology didnt need a man in their life other than to have a child. If the child were a boy it went to live with the father if it was a girl it stayed in the encampment or village. Grace was kind of brought up with the Amazon way of life.

Ok sudden idea here.... What if Alice and Grace are half sisters? Their dad could have been the same person because they are three years apart. Grace's dad was killed when she was three.....

I also have Alice's older sister who was tooken away for medical reasons, she is older than her and is a now healthy girl travling the world and enjoying the freedom of the medical attention.
