For as long as any cat can remember, Shadeclan and Flameclan have been at war. Supposedly it started when two cats fell in love. Mapleheart was a beautiful young She-Cat, the daughter of Shadeclan's leader Shadowstar and loyal to her clan. Thornclaw was the deputy of Flameclan, a handsome and powerful tomcat who always put his clan above all else. Despite their differences, the two fell in love. When Shadowstar caught wind of their relationship, he confronted the Flameclan leader, Dovestar, a peaceful she-cat. Though she could not be sure of his innocence, Dovestar insisted a Warrior of hers would never fall for a Shadeclan cat.
Infuriated that she would insist upon her clanmate's innocence, Shadowstar ordered his warriors to attack and in the battle that ensued, many lives were lost... including Dovestar's. Flameclan mourned the loss of their leader, but none more than Thornclaw, who felt responsible for her death. From that day forward, he vowed to take his revenge on Shadeclan. And eventually, he did. A few moons after he took his leader name, Thornstar declared war on Shadeclan and, in the third battle, he killed Shadowstar once and for all. Mapleheart was shocked and horrified. She grieved the loss of her father and, at her clanmates insistence, she took over as leader and became Maplestar. The two former mates became mortal enemies, and for the duration of their nine lives they continued to battle it out like cat's and dogs.
Many seasons have passed since the two clans declared war on each other, and since that fateful day the forest has never been the same. Due to the constant battling, prey is scarce... scared off by the constant sounds of fighting. If something isn't done soon, the Clans will fall. And then, one day, a Prophecy comes from Starclan.
The great battle will make one cat fall, but lead to the birth of the four who will save us all.
