Hello there, friend, my name is Shep and I believe it is short enough as it is. Therefore, I have no need for a nickname, but you can give me one if you like! I do not know the origin of my name, but I know my parents were herding dogs and protected the sheep, so perhaps I was named after my father, who was called Shepherd. If you have not figured it out yet by my picture and my name, I am a male rough collie puppy, and I am 6 months old. My breed hail from Scotland, but I originate from Newton Abbot, in Devon, Great Britain.

I am a curious, honest, playful, loyal, funny, and sometimes stupid puppy who knows his right from wrong, and how to get around without getting into too much trouble. I may not be the biggest or the baddest but I have seen a thing or two in my short life. Of course, at this age, I am not the smartest of canines, but I am eager to learn.I am currently the rank of a pup, but when I am older I want to be a hunter because I like to stalk things. Silly, eh? No harm in dreaming, as my mother used to say!

Right now, I do not know anything about love. I don't know how to please a female, or even get her attention! But, when I am old enough, I want a girl who is sweet and considerate, and doesn't mind stepping two feet into my goofy world! Like I said before, I am curious, honest, playful, loyal, funny, and sometimes stupid, but the right girl for me would get an easy going, willing, considerate male who would do anything for her.Mushy, eh? My father said to never let feelings get in the way, that you only become mates to ensure survival of your species. I guess that's why all my siblings called me a 'mumma's boy'.

I may only be a puppy, and being abandoned has taken its toll on me. Its affected all of us, but the youngest especially. But I guess that's why I'm lucky too, because I have a long time to heal! If you never befriend me, then you'll never know me! At least, not as well as you should. But if you get to know me you never know. One day I may surprise you with a new side of me that no one ever sees...

Shep's story is like most. His owners got him a few months before the baby arrived. The hassle of a first child is stressful, and the couple couldn't cope with the playful pup either. One day, they put Shep in the car and drove. And drove. And drove. Tired, Shep fell asleep. When his eyes finally opened again, he wasn't in the car. His owners scents were faint. He followed them, until his nose touched the salty water. For a while, the rough collie pup just sat in the sand, unsure of what to do. After a while, he went back the way he came and arrived at the signpost. For him, it was an easy decision. Shep had always wanted to go mountain hiking. So, he travelled up the path for about an hour, and found a group of other dogs. Bewildered, Shep almost turned and ran. But he decided against it. Now he's part of the pack.
