appearance wrote:artemius is tall, standing at six foot one, and of an average build, if somewhat lanky. though it may not be easily visible, he's got a bit of muscle on him, and is stronger than he appears. an average weight, artemius is a fast runner. his brown hair has a bit of a curl to it, while appearing near-blonde in the correct lighting, and is contrasted by very blue eyes that are comparable in colour to a lake. he also has a wide assortment of scars, ranging from a small line on his right cheek and a few on the inside of his left elbow to one running across the bottom of his left foot, two on his right leg, a few on his stomach and back, and everywhere in between. most are from early hunting accidents.
family wrote:artemius grew up in a large family- first were his parents, katherine alaina moore, nee thompson and adonis christopher moore. adonis studied mythology, perhaps following in the footsteps of a parent of his own [artemius had never bothered to ask], specialising in greek, while katherine was a mathematics teacher. artemius supposed the two had always had a craving for a large family- why anyone would want that, especially with electricity dead, people having to provide for themselves- and that was clearly what they got, as david is the fifth child in a family of ten kids who made it past age five. he had an older sister by the name of alecto elizabeth who died of a sickness when she was five, six years before he was born, and an older sister named andromeda rose who was stillborn the following year, but he still has four living older siblings- his oldest brother apollo alexander, aged 28 and oldest sister athena sophia who's twenty five, plus twenty two year old twins ares jason and aphrodite rose. after artemius, there followed six other siblings, first twins astraea pheobe and alcyone irene, the former having died when she was two [like alecto, of some sickness], and the latter being eighteen. there are also sixteen year old twins, ajax andrew and ariadne elizabeth, and the newest additions, identical twins althea chloe and anthea cleo, who are fifteen. despite the huge number in the moore household, they are actually a very close knit family, and artemius is very protective of them. they also have a family of foxhounds- zeus, hera, persephone, elektra, lycus, castor, icarus, and hermes.
history wrote:like many of his siblings, artemius grew up entirely in a world where there were no electronics where humans ued to be completely dependent on them. and, like his siblings, he saw a world where many of the adults suffered hardships in trying to cope and survive. after all, many of them had spent the better part of their lives in near-luxury, with information available at their fingertips. unlike other kids their age, though, it seemed like the moore's had gotten off quite lucky- with a high school math teacher and college history professor as parents, the kids grew up surrounded by books and encyclopedias, along with the "geniuses" they insisted their parents were, to teach them what they had learned- or, at least as much was relevant. that being said, artemius is actually quite the intelligent and disciplined individual, despite how he may appear at times. artemius was quite the studious child, and was known growing up for asking questions. while his older siblings tuned out their parents stories, much as the younger ones do now, artemius always listened closely, absorbing every bit of information that he could. he studied maps and read books in his free time- his absolute favourite were the books written by j. r. r. tolkien-, and while his siblings teased him for it, it was much of what formed artemius as a person. his father taught apollo, artemius' eldest brother, how to hunt as soon as both he and katherine deemed the boy old enough, and it was artemius' brother that then passed the knowledge down to him- tracking, snare-making, how to use a bow, knife skills; all the tricks of the trade- when his father was unsure if artemius was cut out for it. meanwhile, his mother and older sisters passed on their limited knowledge about plants- a few which were edible, some with medicinal properties, and how to differentiate them-, how to properly prepare food, and the very basics of sewing and otherwise mending clothes, all at his own requests. with years of learning how to master the bow, artemius finally was allowed to hunt with his elder brothers [and occasionally father] to help provide for the family. perhaps he had a natural talent for it, because even now artemius is arguably the best hunter in his family, despite being only the tender age of nineteen. however, artemius' early life was not only spent on learning and hunting. he also spent quite a lot of time with his family. they ate most meals together, and there was always time for stories around the fire, or games inside the house. however, since much of artemius' time was spent studying, hunting, or else with his family, he never spent much time making friends or talking to strangers, aside from the occasional trading here and there, so his social skills suffer quite a bit.
personality wrote:artemius is... well, an interesting character, to say the least. he can come off as more than a bit abrasive, and is generally closed up around strangers. there's no way to ease comment from him past the absolute necessity- you either get bare bones, or a thanksgiving feast of sarcasm and wit. he has a tough outer shell and a sarcastic filling, if you dig deep enough, you can discover that he is, in fact, very sweet at the core. he cares endlessly for his family and pets, and would give his life for anyone he cares about without a moment's hesitation. he's protective to his very core, but he's also adventurous beyond belief. artemius' biggest goal is to make some ground-breaking discovery. while he's intelligent, he's long known that his skills weren't intended for equations or literature. no, he was meant to be out in the open air, doing things dangerous and stupid beyond belief, but above all, important, new and interesting. he wants to help others, and do so by doing things nobody has ever done before. he lives for the adventure. however, artemius is far from perfect. while he seems brave and courageous, he harbours an assortment of secret fears. maybe you won't catch him flinching at bugs, snakes, or heights, but artemius has claustrophobia, on top of being scared that everyone will hate him, that someone he cares about will get hurt, and, above all, the fear of failure.
