appearance wrote:apollo has curly brown hair that is known for being a mess, as the hufflepuff is usually far too lazy to brush it, which is matched in colour by his large brown eyes. actually, a word to accurately describe apollo as a whole would be large- he has large facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, ears), large hands and fingers- and he's not on the skinny side of things, either (on the other hand, he's quite short). due to being a chaser, some of his weight is actually muscle, but it's hardly visible at all. apollo's lucky that his natural skin tone is slightly tanned, otherwise he would likely be very, very pale. he stands at 5'2" and weighs 172 pounds.
family wrote:growing up, apollo was always very close with his immediate family. he spent much of his time with his parents and younger brother, and whether it was a family trip to the zoo, his mum making up bedtime stories to tell the boys, or his father telling stories straight from mythology, there were no souls that apollo loved more than his family. his father, now aged 47 is named nicholas john, and his mother, who would be aged 42 is named annabelle elizabeth (her maiden name is snow). his younger brother, thirteen, is named helios philander. apollo is muggleborn, so he is the only person in his family to have magic.
history wrote:apollo was born on september third of nineteen ninety six, and he grew up very loved and cared for. his father being a history professor and having a particular affinity for mythology and his mother being a fantasy author who occasionally drew from myths herself, it was no surprise that he was named apollo astrophel- apollo after the greek god most prominently associated with the sun, and astrophel, a titular character in a collection of sonnets (it was likely intended to mean "star lover," due to its connections to the greek words for star and love). his younger brother helios philander was born- helios after the titan (or, more specifically, son of titans) personification of the sun, and philander meaning friend of man (and also the latinised form of philandros, a son of apollo). apollo took an immediate shine to his baby brother, and the two still remain close. growing up, apollo read all sorts of comics (his favourites were the superhero ones, and captain america was always his personal hero), and he watched television and movies. by his eleventh birthday, the kid was immersed in all sorts of things. he'd read the hobbit (he was waiting on the lord of the rings series until he was older, but it was a day he anticipated greatly), he'd seen every superhero movie to date, he'd been watching doctor who for longer than he could remember, he'd read more books than he could count... and then some strange person showed up at his house, and began to explain to apollo and his parents that he possessed magic, and the boy was so excited that he thought he might die. shopping for school that year was amazing, and apollo even made new friends- a rat named bilbo and an owl named gwaihir he had bought when he should have been getting more useful things. by the end of his first year at hogwarts- which was easily the best nine months of his life- he had finished reading the lord of the rings. he spent the following years reading books during his stay at hogwarts, and watching television shows and movies almost excessively at home, along with possibly overusing his electronics, due to the fact that they were just useless hunks of metal at hogwarts. by his fifth year he had a successful tumblr blog going, he'd seen just about every popular television show- he still refused to touch supernatural-, and going to hogwarts was almost bittersweet. a sad farewell to television, movies, and internet, (oh, yeah, and his family) but the good completely outweighed the bad- after all, magic was the coolest thing imaginable, and he'd put everything else on the back-burner in a heartbeat. however, on november twenty seventh of his fifth year, he got a letter from his father saying that his mother had been shot and killed, and apollo was crushed. he stayed at hogwarts until christmas break- but he hardly ate, let alone attended classes- and almost didn't return afterwards. however, his father and brother both persuaded him to go back, so the hufflepuff did. as to not upset anyone else or ruin his education, apollo pretended he was fine, and most days he managed alright, but some days he did just break down. however, apollo had always been one to try and cheer others up, and he had learned over time that even just seeing others happy could help, so he tried his utmost to act like he was okay, after electing against telling anyone about his current situation. since then, he's been trying to go back to normal while dealing with increasingly difficult schoolwork.
personality wrote:apollo is almost your stereotypical hufflepuff. he works hard at anything and everything he does, and he's fiercely loyal. he's patient, honest, and trustworthy. he believes in rules, and he thinks that things should be fair. he's kind and friendly, yes- but he has absolutely no social skills. while he's very good with plants and animals, people are beyond his reach. he's awkward, and difficult to talk to, and has a somewhat poor sense of humour, whilst constantly making references to the things he enjoys, which, in a place like hogwarts, not a lot of people get. he knows all sorts of useless trivia, and he has a snarky attitude. however, apollo is actually fairly smart, despite his automatic bias against slytherin house (likely because he's afraid of being picked on). he's very gullible and easy to pick on, and it's not hard to take advantage of his kindness. he also has quite a bit of a temper, but he won't stand up for himself, even if he will for others.
other wrote:pets; his rat bilbo and barn owl gwaihir
patronus; a jack russell terrier
wand; apollo's wand is flexible, ten inches long and made of rowan with a unicorn hair core. rowan wands cast the best defensive spells and are also known to be on the winning end of most duels, and they have a strong preference for level-headed wizards with good intentions. unicorn hair cores produce the most consistent magic, and are the most sentimental, usually having a very strong bond to their owner, regardless of their abilities. they may not create the most powerful wands, but they're the hardest to turn to the dark arts, and if mistreated the hair may die.
classes; being a seventh year, apollo is allowed to drop or take on any classes that he wishes, assuming he has high enough owls. he's currently taking transfiguration, charms, herbology, potions, dada, astronomy, history of magic, and comc. he is best at comc, herbology, dada, and astronomy, while he's barely able to even take potions.
likes; sweaters, converse, comics, movies, television, electronics, drawing, captain america, marvel, lord of the rings, lost, the hunger games, early doctor who, stargazing, animals, plants, fires, sugar, soundtracks, reading, writing, dogs (especially puppies), food, sleeping, people
dislikes; cats, supernatural, thinking about death, rain, moffat, slytherins, stairs, when people are rude, harmful opinions, loud noises
dreams; he wants kids a lot, to meet celebrities whose characters had a significant effect on his life, his favourite stories and characters being real, his entire life right now is a dream i mean he is living in a world where magic is real
fears; his father or brother dying, dementors (boggart), chainsaws, being sliced in half, guns, cats, being asymmetrical, bullies, being cut open/in half, coconuts
trivia; he cries a lot while watching movies. some soundtracks make him very emotional. he's actually a very skilled artist, but he doesn't think so, nor does he show things he draws to most people. he likes trying to write things, but never gets more down than a few pages. the only exception to the previous fact is his "journal," in which he writes to his mother, which he started the christmas a month after his mother's death, in which he's written at least once a week since. he is very good with plants and animals. he underestimates himself and his abilities.
