It's a sunny day in the fall, by which it's 82 degrees fahrenheit, a nice temperature in Florida. All the colors seem to be much more vibrant than before, the greens much greener, the blues much bluer, it seems to be a nice day in Fort Pierce. The sea breeze is blowing, and the sun is shining bright. It's a beautiful day, but the animals are acting strange.
What's wrong? What's happening? For everyone else, it seems to be a normal day. Something weird is going on..
We're going to head down to the beach anyways, because it is a nice day after all. But as we get closer to the beach, we notice a darkness in the distance sky. The ocean looks as if in distress- the waves are getting higher, they are getting closer to shore. We have to move back, or have our things swept away by the waves. As the minutes pass, the rougher the sea becomes. Now the wind is picking up..
There's a noticeable change in the weather. Now people are chasing after their beach umbrellas- they're blowing all over the place. "Lookout!" We duck as one of them flies over our heads. Better head out, things are getting bad! Sand is blowing at our faces, and we have to make a great effort in order to cover our arms and face. Now we see white foam on the ocean. The waves are fierce, clashing and making war with each other. "Get off the beach! A hurricane is upon us!" A man yells, riding past us on a four-wheeler.
We take a quick glance at each other before running in fear. The Palm trees are blowing wildly, and as we're running for the car, we hear a thump, and we look back. A tall Palm just missed us, and it's blocking the road. Oh no, how are we going to get out once we get to our car? We stand here with the wind blowing and now, it's starting to rain. The low, dark grey and black clouds cover the sun. Suddenly, a siren goes off. We look to see what's going on. We look to our left to see a short, tan, chubby man, in a bright yellow speedo and gripping his car keys, running frantically through the parking lot. Meanwhile, we're still trying to figure out how we're going to get out, and get over the bridge that gets us across the river to the mainland. The sky is almost black, and we can barely see. One of us flicks on his phone, and waves it around to produce some light. We find our car, and open the car doors..

The hurricane is just starting, and now the characters have to prepare. There is the beginning (right now), the prime (the actual storm), and then after the storm. It's going to take these characters throughout the entire process of having a storm of this size. The emotions, etc. (anything that would happen in a hurricane, really)
Think about it like this:
The characters have to prepare for this storm (meaning get food, water, etc, prep their home maybe? And then make it through the actual hurricane.)
This tragedy won't just end- there is still the cleanup phase, rebuilding, and healing process.
Other: The three friends are very close. And, they all have phones.
