biography

Laura Bailey, or Det. Bailey, is part of
the Manhattan twenty-six. Everyone who
works with her is well-aware that there
are two Lauras: Detective Bailey, who
takes her work extremely seriously, and
Laurie, who makes jokes about napping
on the lunch-room table. She is a great
negotiator, preferring to keep her fire-
arm in its holster.
Laura is friendly, warm, and easy to talk
to. She has been the comfort of many
trainees who have been spooked by the
callous captain upon their arrival to the
precinct. Laura may seem unprofessional
due to all the wit and humor, but she is
really the opposite: she can be trusted to
work her cases with diligence, and also
solve them. Where it is needed, she can
be unnervingly serious, but she often
prefers to keep things light-hearted.
Though Laura seems very open and kind,
she has a tendency to hide her "negative"
emotions: she won't tell you if she's hurt,
but will instead put on a smile and tell a
joke. If you confront her about something
that she would rather not talk about, she
will easily become defensive or closed off.
Laura was married to another detective,
Chris Bailey, from the next precinct for
half a decade, but she tragically passed
away due to cancer a few years ago.
Losing her wife kind of made Laurie
afraid of getting attached again, and she
definitely still isn't over Chris, if she ever
will be. Laurie has her picture on her desk,
but trainees beware: it's better not to ask.

Jonah Reed - the captain - [ ♦ ] - Laura has a lot of respect for the captain, and definitely believes that his way of running the precinct has driven her to be a better detective. Although she does sometimes feel like Jonah's ruthlessness goes a little too far, she doesn't think that the man is inherently mean or cruel. She is aware of the captain's romantic feelings towards her, but finds herself unreceptive due to what happened to Chris and what her passing did to her.

Clarence Campos - the sergeant - [ ✓ / ♦ ] - Clarence was Laura's mentor when she first arrived at the precinct. She respects the sergeant immensely, and still considers him a mentor and a close friend. She finds him easy to talk to, and often consults him on cases.

Cora Thatcher - detective - [ ✓ / ☙ ] - Laura has been friends with the fellow detective for a long time, and they like to engage in friendly competition over solving cases. She was there for her when Chris died, and there are no words to describe how much Laura appreciates her support - even if she isn't quite ready to process it, and doesn't like talking about it, merely her presence is often enough. Cora seems to always know when Laura is hiding something, but never pushes it too far.
Andre Gutierrez - detective - [ ♢ ] - Laura finds Andre a bit too grim, but doesn't otherwise mind him at all. Every chance she gets, she will try to coax a laugh out of the fellow detective to show everyone that he isn't necessarily as intolerable as he sometimes seems to be.
