Rose can be described as a reserved older sister type, with a
pessimistic and nervous approach to life.
She wants to be the best she can possibly be, which causes internal
turmoil when she inevitably messes up or make a tiny mistake. She's
just naturally her own worst enemy, and that behavior worsens
when she faces her anxiety.
Generally speaking, Rose isn't the biggest fan of people, but she
never really shows it. She's always genuinely kind to the people she
cares about, and still polite and friendly to those she doesn't.
Her introversion means she has to have some space and time to
herself for the sake of her mental state.
Attentiveness is second nature to Rose, especially because it could
frequently be the difference between life and death. She's a
natural at picking up little details, however it can cause her to lose
sight of the bigger picture at times.
She has a skepticism toward people and their intentions, but has a
tendency to ignore her intuition, although it's usually right. And that
also plays into her over-independence. Instead of getting help, she
tends to try and internalize her issues, usually causing a breakdown.

Rose was born and raised with your everyday average-joe family, with
two younger siblings, and both of her parents, all at her disposal, and
she loved them all dearly. She had no signs of being special, well,
aside from her mismatched eyes, but those weren't anything
supernatural, just a simple genetic defect. Her parents noticed from
a young age that she had a particular 'bond' with horses, specifically
a little black colt born the same day right down the road, however
all three of the kids ended up being animal lovers, and so they
thought nothing of it. That is, until Rose, aged seven at the time,
woke up screaming, holding her neck, saying that Knight was in
danger. That's when her parents knew she was a bonded. Her parents
were luckily very accepting and kept her secret. They scraped
together the money to buy Knight, and kept Rose as safe as they
could. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough. After a day of work,
they neighbors noticed her muttering to her horse, and asking
questions to him, and suspected that she was bonded. The hunters
were informed, and one tearful goodbye later, Rose left her family
and took off. She had since found shelter in a stable on the
outskirts of town, but had to make a run for it only a few months
after. She's been on the run since.

Knight is very much Rose's "Knight in shining armor."
A valiant, brave horse with a gentle nature and a curious disposition,
he does what he can to protect his beloved Bonded from harm, not just
for his own sake, but also due to his good nature. That being said, he
can get violent and aggressive to protect Rose, sometimes without a
second thought. He's intelligent, as most of his breed are, but his loyalty
can blind him. As horses are prey animals, they can be skittish and
flighty, Knight is no exception, and while he is typically brave, he doesn't
care for the unexpected. He's also wary of most men in general, due to
his past, but tends to follow Rose's judgment.

....✧ history: penny grew up in a small household. her house was built on the outskirts of her hometown. when penny and her older sister, olivia, were younger they'd sneak out often to go into the edge of the woods nearby and play. one day, her older sister olivia showed penny a small fox she'd let into her bag—opening penny's eyes to the world of bonders. penny met koda in the woods near her house months later when she'd travelled too far deep, and she'd accidentally stumbled upon the kodiak bear. the two were able to slowly build up a friendship once they discovered they were bonded.

their parents eventually discovered the sisters were bonders, though they didn't turn them in to the hunters as they didn't want to lose their daughters. however, the hunters eventually came for them, forcing penny and olivia to go on the run. they spent about three months on their own until they were once again found by hunters. in their struggle to escape, olivia was killed to buy her little sister time to run. ever since then, penny and koda have been on their own.

....➳ description: koda is quite a large animal, weighing around 536 kg and standing 4'4'' at his shoulder. he has thick fur and the typical musculature of a bear—including quite a bit of fat—which helps protect his vital spots. he's excellent at fighting and is a terrifying powerhouse when needed.

....➳ personality: koda is very protective of penny and won't hesitate to lash out at someone should he feel they are becoming a threat to her. the two of them are never seen apart. despite how he may seem when acting as a protector, koda is typically calm-tempered and is actually a big softie at heart. he's very gentle around penny, as well as other bonders until he has a reason not to be.

I hope this is an okay thing to go ahead with?

I like taking abilities/powers/etc that seem sort of useless but can be utilised in lots of different ways and such, meaning I'm unlikely to pick anything anyone else is using anyway, but for the sakes of making sure is it possible to give me a run down of what animals more active people tended to go for?

I'm assuming I shouldn't opt for spiders for reasons of being considerate to arachnophobes, and snakes for ophidiophobes, but that's not too much of a restriction! Similarly for aggressive-looking dogs; but this is even less of a restriction.

One of the first thoughts that comes to mind is octopus bond + water powers but I would only want to do that with water powers for reasons of octopodes only being able to survive out of water for about 30 minutes and going back to your room compulsively every 20 minutes (to be sure that there's enough lee-way) would be a huge restriction. And yes, I don't want to do power-begging so I'm not going to rely on that (but please DM me if you roll for me to get powers + water powers as I know what to do with that. Otherwise I will assume that's off the table!).

Otherwise what's coming to mind are small sneaky things with good abilities to get to hard-to-reach places? Not that octopodes don't fit that, but there is the "deep sea creature" thing there. Stuff like mice, rats, raccoons, new world primates, lemurs, lorises, geckos, squirrels.
I'm wondering how many people were looking down that route and if there are any I should avoid if lots of people were going for them in that sort of vein?
I'm going to try to take a look at the previous version to see as well, I'm more asking in case I miss anyone! And I'm asking on the thread in case this is a question other people get?

On a related note: I saw someone had a dragon on the previous version? Are fantasy creatures an option (within reason, obviously a full-grown dragon is very different from a small one)? There was also somoene who was playing a half-elf? Is that a thing or being revised out or just not picked up on?

I understand where you're coming from, so I'll DM you with how we'll deal/can deal with abilities, though I cant guarantee anything!

- One of my characters, (currently named Ria,) has a sugar-glider, but im pretty sure thats one of the only small creatures so far? So that is still open with different types of small critters.

- Im planning to put a small restriction on dragons, if a dragon is made it can only become as big as horse- maybe smaller. so 3-5ft max. I just kinda found it a bit odd to have such big creatures because 1) how did they keep it hidden in the first place? and 2) its kinda an inconvenience if you have some 10ft dragon- how would it hide in the safehouse?

and for the elf, uh- I was not the original owner of the roleplay, so I wasn't quite sure what to make of it- I think for now i'll keep it out? if the owner of the elf returns and makes that character I might have to shimmey the rule a bit and allow humanoid creatures but to a very very limited extent- I generally want to keep this to a human-bonded animal sort of roleplay.
