COMMUNITY POLL: Rare Monthly Pets

I'm not a fan of the rarity of zebras but the occasional rare litter outcome has long been a thing. Can't see any issue doing it more frequently. Once a month is maybe a little too frequent though, I'm still struggling to catch up after 2009's litters.

And I am not sure of the odds but my own example. I have not missed a single pony/horse litter since I joined in May 2009 ._. Never got a zebra among my adopts. Me thinks the odds are small lol

I'm in favor of occasional rarer litter outcomes! for people who are concerned, as far as I remember the august PPS did not have the demand it does now when it was first released. I *think* I actually got the outcome in my litter by chance and ended up trading it away for like.... one MA?

Point being, I don't think rarer outcomes are going to cause a major upset in the trading scene c: I think it'll be good for newbies and other users who just don't trade much to get some more valuable pets into their collection

That is an example of an unexpected outcome. If people expect them to be routinely sprinkled in due to the outcome of this poll, trading won't be going on unaware of the potential due to the infrequency of it happening. Fear of litter swapping before rarities are posted may have dramatic upheaval when there is an expectation. The monthly swap thread would be very difficult to use if this happens given the time to find out rarities.

thats just a natural part of a trading game like cs tbh. there's always a chance the trade you made wasn't fair, but you can simply choose not to make it if you're unsure. in the past, it's been pretty obvious when an outcome is going to be much rarer than the rest of its litter, as usually the entire swap thread is full of people asking for it. i don't think much will change if there are just more of them

People here are saying they hate trading and already get upset that they don’t just get every outcome automatically. I’m sorry but cs is a game… You have to do stuff. If swapping a common or two is already too much for you and you don’t like rarities or trading I’m not really sure what to tell you.

Exactly. Chicken Smoothie is a game, and games always have some sort of challenge. An easy game with no challenge would be boring.

I disagree with the concept that what makes a game fun is it being challenging. In many cases that takes away from the experience, especially in a game that isn't about leader boards and tournaments and competition. CS already has so many pets that are super hard to get, and I don't think anyone will benefit from that number increasing at a faster rate (aside from people who have huge amounts of old rares to toss away for new ones, that is). Casual players and newbies would not benefit from the game becoming harder faster.

*And of course its a valid take that introducing more rares would make it more fun for some people, but to claim it would benefit newbies as a whole in a noticeable way, like so many here have implied, is just disingenuous.

this would be a great idea for rares to be given out to newbies more easily/create more activity in the trading side of cs!!

reading through this thread, ive seen many discuss how hard this would be to finish a pet collection. Though i do understand that, i feel like rare pets would be a good incentive for people to keep coming back/trading/generally interacting with others. I feel like this new rarity thing could be a totally positive thing!! ^^

I think it's a great idea.

It doesn't make it harder for newbies as newbies tend to collect pets they like the look of and don't mind too much about having every outcome of every litter.

This makes it harder trading for hard-core collectors (id say I'm a mild collector myself) so it would provide a challenge but that can be fun and rewarding!

adding onto my other thoughts, i feel like a small challenge that everyone is able to participate in could be fun! i think it would be a great idea to introduce exclusive pets that can be obtained in free monthlies, as apposed to say, grinding during events or buyign c$ to purchase the store pets. I feel like rare monthlies could totally shake up the trading economy and could also prevent from hoarding tons of high value pets, etc.

another thing ive seen a lot is those saying they arent interested in this as they dont enjoy swapping or getting every outcome in one go with no trading, but i feel like that's more of an individual thing, since cs at its core is just an image based pet-collecting games with forums, and whatnot. While its fun to have a pet collection and be proud of having 'one of everything', it really isnt for everybody, and thats okay. I'm sure this cs update could honestly do a lot more to bring in new players/have old ones stick around. Of course, just kind of an opinion of mine, and i'm curious to hear what other people think. I consider myself sort of a chill collector lol so I'd be interested to hear other's thoughts on the trading side specifically.

I haven't been a very active user in a long time here for multiple reasons. But a primary reason is that this game is incredibly difficult. I gave up on the idea of a complete collection years ago, it's practically impossible unless you pay real life currency and stalk everything all the time i expect. And even then, playing like i used to requires time and effort that i simply no longer have.

Introducing even more rare pets, whilst it sounds fun in theory i don't think will work very well ultimately. Countless people will miss out on it completely, many people will hoard them, some will overpay for them and people will get scammed out of them.

The problem with this game is that getting old rare pets is very, very difficult, because there are simply not enough of them. New pets just don't have the value, so you need to have hundreds of them to even get close and that's provided you find someone willing to do the trade.
