Rarity system updated to add 4 new categories!

For roleplayers who want to write longer detailed posts using advanced language and grammar. Anyone can create a topic here, but joining these RPs is by application-only so that RP owners can control the literacy level they're comfortable with. All content must remain child-friendly at all times.

    i agree with this! i love the update, but yes! the red and pink is really throwing me off

    while we do have the option of using stars with no color, i created a couple suggestions -

    1st - switch the pink and red
    while this is not longer 'rainbow order', the light pink transitions the light orange to the bright red nicely

    2nd - make the red lighter, and the pink darker (personal fav)
    this option keeps a 'rainbow order', but puts more emphasis on the pink and less on the red to help differentiate the value levels visually

    the update is wonderful, but a slight change in the colors may help players visually differentiate values easier : )


I don't have a problem with how the colours are now, but I really like the second example with the really hot pink - especially since unlike the current pink it's part of the graident used for OMGSR

Agree completely! I feel with so many pets moving up to OMGSR we need at least one more tier above OMGSR. There are now so many more OMGSR that the group feels bloated and harder to navigate than ever. There is no way a cookie dog is worth anywhere near a skelebun or Sunjewel, yet they are now in the same group


I would agree this remains my largest confusion about the update. perhaps it's because there's just less being traded that I've seen, but I find it extremely hard to believe a toxic bun or cookie advent is as rare as the orange cerberus. I know demand is a huge factor, even taking that into account is a struggle for me. hopefully it can all get worked out in a new system though, otherwise I'm pretty hopeless.

I'm shocked by the number of pets that were valued as a MA that are now OMGSR. Not sure how that will effect trading. Should be interesting to see.
also have and Eldemore account with the same user name. As well as a FR account with the same name.

Here are my questions:
- was demand factored into the update?
- are all rare/vr/er/omgsr/etc pets now worth the same regardless of year? in other words, do dates still matter?
- how did they determine which pets moved up in rarity? was it based on how many of that pet are on the site?

I think understanding how they actually completed the rarity update and how they determined the rarities will tell us how we should be trading. Because since the rarities are supposed to be "refined", does that mean an 09 rare is worth the same as a 2022 rare? I won't be trading until I understand what the rarity levels actually mean now.

Demand and greed was way out of hand on here, I never understood the lists they made no sense. I hope people will do more honest trades now.

I'm still sorting out my trade groups of like 8000 pets :lol: :lol: (been working on it all day already) A lot of my uncommons went up :D :mrgreen:

here’s what I understand based on the reading I’ve done, as well as research I’ve done with other users in the past, for the sake of structuring trading guides and such:

1) no, demand is a purely user-determined statistic. CS as a website generates pets & rarities, then users decide how desirable individual pets are, i.e., demand.

2) I honestly think this is a huge hope for those of us who were in favor of this change! that dates would no longer matter nearly as much. with more rarity categories dividing out the pets that were previously all “VR” for example (some remaining VR, and some older ones going ER), this change now drastically reduces the amount of guesswork a user has to do to understand the value of their pet. dates were just one of the tools we used in our guesswork as a community, and now maybe they won’t have to matter as much.

3) as I understand it, staff evaluates pet rarity based on how many pets there are per active user of the site! So there may be more of a certain pet on site if a user who hasn’t logged on since say 2011 has 150 of them in a hoard. but those aren’t counted towards rarity calculation because they are not accessible to the userbase as a whole.

This is a very logical update.
Rarity is what it is, a statistical reference. The new classes just more accurately fine tune where the rarity pet already was based on actual real set numbers.
This is not an opinion or a market determined by CS.

There will not be a rework in a month.
Rarity values are set and only change based on the number of users or if pets are deleted.
What users make of this change the market and value.

I don't love this update and I think my main gripe is that the bar colours are unappealing, I saw so many nice fan designs that these official ones just don't hit the sweet spot

Note for trades and PM's, I leave my CS tab open almost all the time for easy access. I am online but I'm not actively looking at the tab all day <3

After taking some time to look into the changes, i do have to say that this rarity update wasnt what i expected. More rarities and an equal distribution gave me the idea that we would have a better grasp on rarities.

But, a lot of pets have now moved to 'omg so rare' and thats where the grasp of rarities really is needed. Most pets below uncommon were already easily traded and swapped, a change there was not needed. Most pets above VR were not. Now that almost all 08's are 'omg so rare' i feel like we still need a guide on where things fall, which means things will still be very demand based and not rarity based. Pets that have been omg so rare since before the 2012 rarith update now fall with pets thst have just became omg so rare and we have no idea where they sit in relation to each other.

I would suggest a tweak to the categories. It makes no sense to me that all 08's are now in the last rarity catagory, there should def still be some difference in the actual rarest pets and just old pets. Dont get me wrong, i know the older the rarer a pet is, but an 08 cookie dog is in no way as rare as a skelebun.
