It was cold, it had been for generations.

But it hadn't always been, ShiverClan was once StormClan, a clan that lived on the edge of society. StormClan lived through violent weather, thriving in the changing seasons. But then one day the snow started and never stopped. At first StormClan rolled with the change used to light snowing on the occasion but soon the world around them began to change. Prey thinned and the weather brought illness.
They adapted, the cats with thinner fur died out and those who survived thrived. With the changing of hands the name StormClan was lost and upon a show of hands, the name ShiverClan was taken on. That was a long time ago and now, although small ShiverClan is content. Kits are born once a year during snow thaw, any kits born outside of snow thaw become sick and runt-like due to dwindling foods and herbs.
And then, 3 moons after snow thaw ends and the kits are of age the rite of passage begins. Where kits prove themselves ready to become apprentices and to find who their mentor shall be. They are taken out beyond the reaches of the territory and asked to find their way back and then to locate a warrior of the clan. The first warrior they find to become their mentor. The rite of passage is just around the corner, tonight in fact.

1─ above all else, follow site rules, take some time to review them if it's be
en a while! 2 ─ this is an advanced/semi-lit role-play and as such I've set a
word minimum of 100. writer's block is understandable but shouldn't be the
norm, if you are struggling make sure to let me know, so you can be excused.
3 ─ please be aware that words like 'fae' and 'audit/auditories' may not mean
what you think they mean. using flavour text can expand the world of your w
riting but using the wrong word can be confusing. google and the dictionary
are always your friends, don't be afraid to ask either! 4 ─ god-modding or po
werplay under any circumstances will not be tolerated. your characters have
limits and on the same note, do not control other players characters; this in
cludes killing or injuring a character without asking the creator. 5 ─ please
ask us before huge plot twists! smaller events are fine but events that will
impact the whole role-play need our consent. 6 ─ three characters per person,
this may change later but for now, two is the number. please remember to
keep those characters realistic. 7 ─ lesbian, gay and bisexual characters will
be accepted, this isn't up for debate; please try to keep this role-play a safe
space. 8 ─ disable those signatures and all forms and ooc posts should be made
on the discussion thread

Leader ─ a typical clan leader, nine lives apointed by starclan, previously the deputy of the clan.
Deputy ─ the clan has two deputies when the leader dies the winner of a fight will be chosen to lead the clan, the loser staying deputy.
Medicine Cat ─ the healer and spiritual leader of the clan. they train an apprentice; typically chosen from amongst the kits who get lost during the rite of passage.
Elders ─ the old of the clan, few cats get this far and as such, they are treated with great honour.
Warriors ─ the general workers of the clan.
Apprentices ─ the warriors in training, from the age of 10 moons on they can graduate to the position of warrior if they prove their worth.
Queens ─ mothers of kits, they typically only stay with this role until their kits are 5 moons of age returning to their warrior duties, a couple queens will often stay in the role, however, taking care of the apprentices and elders when the nursery is empty.
Kits ─ the children of the clan, a huge part of the clan's culture revolves around the kits and snow thaw.

Camp ─ the camp is situated under the overhang of a cliff face, and not really distinguishable from the rest of the landscape- covered in snow. The only sign that cats live here is the holes in the snow that lead to den sites and sticks that are used to signal the roofs of snow dens- which can be easily collapsed during the early moons of snow fall and are nonexistent during snow thaw.
Leaders & Deputy ─ a shared den that is dug into the snow, enough space for all three cats. It moves places from time to time when the roof of the den collapses.
Warriors & Apprentice ─ two seperate snow dens with very similar builds during snow fall. Dug into the snow and pressed to keep from falling in.
Medicine Cat ─ through a crack in the stone the medicine cat den can be found. Free of most snow the entrance to the medicine den rarely needs to be dug due to how high it sits on the cliff face- this however does cause the den to be harder to access during snow thaw. herbs are stored in the cracks that line the stone walls of the den.
Nursery & Elders ─ while initially dug into the snow the nursery entrance leads to a cave similar to that of the med den. The nursery is shared by elders unless the elderly opt to sleep with the warriors or leader and deputy.
Territory ─ Pine trees and snow as far as the eyes can see.
Beyond ─ Snow and pine trees as far as the eyes can see.
Starting Point ─ A clearing in the snow a good walk away from clan's territory.
Frozen Stone ─ On the far side of the medicine cat den is a long path that leads to the frozen stone- a large set of icicles the medicine cats use to speak with StarClan

Snow Fall ─ the season of winter, one of two seasons that ShiverClan faces. Snow fall lasts for 3/4's of the year with longer nights than day.
Snow Thaw ─ the season of spring, the other seasons that ShiverClan faces. Snow That lasts for only 1/4 of the years.
Den Construction ─ once the snow has become deep enough cats dig into the snow to form tunnels and caves. Think meerkat's on ice.
Rite of passage ─ held halfway through the year, when most of the kits have reached sixth months old. Each kit of the kits, reguardless of age, are taken out to the starting point by the leader, deputies and medicine cat at dusk. They wait until moonhigh, or there abouts, before being released with the task of finding camp. Scattered amongst the clan's territory are warriors; the first warrior an apprentice finds is to become their mentor. By morning a search party goes out for any kit which hasn't found their way home; these kits are given a mentor from either the deputies, leader, medicine cat or if there are more than four lost; elders and trusted senior warriors, as they are viewed as needing the most guidance. Tales of kits dying or getting lost keep ambitious kits from faking becoming lost, most of the time.
Warrior ceremony ─ upon the graduation of an apprentice there is a warrior ceremony held. A private celebration held between the mentor and family, the graduating apprentice sits vigil during the night and come morning are gifted the first fresh kill caught that morning.
Queen's ceremony ─ upon the announcement of a she-cat pregnancy a feast is gathered for the mother and father to celebrate their new future together.
Rite of ascension ─ after a leader dies the two remaining deputies are to have a fight, the winner of which is to become leader. It isn't odd for one of the deputies to throw the fight or surrender immediately if they view their opponent as more worthy. Once the winner is decided the new leader is gifted a flower/plant from each member of the clan, which is then fitted into their fur. Once they have recieved a gift from every cat they are to venture to the frozen stone and lay in the water that surrounds the frozen stone and sleep. When they wake they will find themselves with only one gift remaining in their pelt; the cat who gifted this is to become the new deputy.
