at the beginnings there were no prides, only small groups that consisted of
two or four members, also called families. there used to live up to 5 groups
in 5 km square, but since there still wasn't a preoccupation that would reg
ard territories and borders, the lions would often see each other without
showing any territorial behavior. during a season a horrible famine struck t
he lands, resulting in many deaths. all lions were terrified and confused, n
ever have they ever been put face to face with any calamity of all sorts. a
nd elderly male named qotho decided to unite all the groups under his wa
tchful eye. since everyone was in a deep state of despair they just had to
accept his reign. but they managed to survive, the lead was fair and just.
qotho had done a great job. meanwhile, he lions were happy with his rul
ing, resulting into a longer reign from qotho. when he started to feel old,
when he started to feel death get closer and closer, he appointed his two
sons, ingonyama and ubusuku. together they ruled with justice, being love
d by the entire pride. eventually qotho died and his death wasn't mourned
since the pride knew that now they had two dominant males that could ca
rry the previous king's bloodlines and reign. yet their first years of leading w
ere hard as in second year another famine struck the pride as it hasn't rain
ed in a long period of time. ingonyama and ubusuku couldn't agree on one t
hing. what to do. ingonyama wanted to go south, where the swamp was, sa
ying that it could offer water, but also food to the pride. ubusuku said tha
t they couldn't know if there would have been any prey at the swamp, th
at the swamp might have dried too and proposed to go north, following a
herd of gazelles. ingonyama protested to his brother's decision, saying tha
t he couldn't know if the gazelles would lead the pride to a stable home a
nd if they won't die on the road. so, the two brothers decided to go on e
ach's own way. those closer or those that found ingonyama better than his
brother decided to follow him, while those that found ubusku better and
were closer to him, followed the other sibling. it turned out that each br
other found the place they thought they would see. so, ingonyama conti
nued his reign in the swamp, declaring it as his pride's territory along with
the river that was near, while ubusku claimed the savanna as his own, the
north border being a mountain. a generation passed, now it is thought t
hat the reason why the original pride was broken was because one of the
brothers wanted more power. this made tensions grow bigger between t
he two prides. but could a third famine reunite the two prides?
