at the beginnings there were no prides, only small groups that consisted of
two or four members, also called families. there used to live up to 5 groups
in 5 km square, but since there still wasn't a preoccupation that would reg
ard territories and borders, the lions would often see each other without
showing any territorial behavior. during a season a horrible famine struck t
he lands, resulting in many deaths. all lions were terrified and confused, n
ever have they ever been put face to face with any calamity of all sorts. a
nd elderly male named qotho decided to unite all the groups under his wa
tchful eye. since everyone was in a deep state of despair they just had to
accept his reign. but they managed to survive, the lead was fair and just.
qotho had done a great job. meanwhile, he lions were happy with his rul
ing, resulting into a longer reign from qotho. when he started to feel old,
when he started to feel death get closer and closer, he appointed his two
sons, ingonyama and ubusuku. together they ruled with justice, being love
d by the entire pride. eventually qotho died and his death wasn't mourned
since the pride knew that now they had two dominant males that could ca
rry the previous king's bloodlines and reign. yet their first years of leading w
ere hard as in second year another famine struck the pride as it hasn't rain
ed in a long period of time. ingonyama and ubusuku couldn't agree on one t
hing. what to do. ingonyama wanted to go south, where the swamp was, sa
ying that it could offer water, but also food to the pride. ubusuku said tha
t they couldn't know if there would have been any prey at the swamp, th
at the swamp might have dried too and proposed to go north, following a
herd of gazelles. ingonyama protested to his brother's decision, saying tha
t he couldn't know if the gazelles would lead the pride to a stable home a
nd if they won't die on the road. so, the two brothers decided to go on e
ach's own way. those closer or those that found ingonyama better than his
brother decided to follow him, while those that found ubusku better and
were closer to him, followed the other sibling. it turned out that each br
other found the place they thought they would see. so, ingonyama conti
nued his reign in the swamp, declaring it as his pride's territory along with
the river that was near, while ubusku claimed the savanna as his own, the
north border being a mountain. a generation passed, now it is thought t
hat the reason why the original pride was broken was because one of the
brothers wanted more power. this made tensions grow bigger between t
he two prides. but could a third famine reunite the two prides?

(i). follow all cs forum and roleplay rules. (ii). this is a semi-literate and high-literate though
i will not be very picky with your choice of number of words, you can keep it still partly re
laxed. but i will be picky with the way you formulate your sentences and your choice of wo
rds. before writing a word you are unsure about, google it's definition so you can avoid mak
ing any mistakes. (iii). you can make your own form since i see others enjoying more to cre
ate one by themselves. but consider that the form shouldn't compromise the length of how
much you want to write regarding your character. (iv). higher ranks will need roleplayers t
hat are more literate, so i will be quite strict. before accepting i will look at some of your p
revious rp posts to determine your literacy. (v). keep everything realistic when making your
character. you will need to provide a real life image, so anime and drawings are a big no no.
also, make traits realistic. if your lion is younger than it might not be so strong or experien
ced etc. (vi). please make your lions adults or senior adults if you want a bigger rank. you
can't expect that one year old lion could be the king. (vii). before going inactive pm me an
d we will establish how long you will be going away. but when taking high ranks i would pre
fer if you were a more active person on cs. (viii). reservations last only 48 h and i would li
ke you to finish them in time, if not, the rank you reserved will be reopened for another r
oleplayer. (ix). besides the main drama, you can create some of your own. if small, you can
just add it in and talk about it on the discussion thread. if it will influence the roleplay mor
e, pm me before adding it into the actual roleplay. (x). have fun!

─ ranks❞

lions are known for being the only felines that live in social groups. each rank differs from the other,
each rank has its own purpose and will help the pride in different ways. each lions has its own place
in the hierarchy and the positions it holds can determine the dominance he or she might show or tr
y to impose within the pride. a rank can help you have more privilege, eat more or be respected mo
re. though, of course, each pride will claim that all should be treated the same.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

king ─ the term used for the one that leads the pride, the one under which the pride is reigned. sometimes there c
an be two kings, two dominant males, brothers only. the king is the one that carries each of the brother's bloodlines
and is at some point related to them, unless if he was given the rank after becoming mates with the queen that cou
ld be the one carrying the bloodlines. the king is in charge of defending the pride and marking the territory. he batt
les the intruders/noamds and the one that admits new members inside the pride. his word is law and all the lions and
lionesses submit to him. the king will spend most of the time around the borders of his territory, staying with the pr
ide only to eat, if he is needed and sometimes just because there are no threats. the king can be also seen as the m
asculine lead, portrayed as having more control over the subordinate males.

queen ─ the term used for the king's mate or the female leader. she usually isn't seen as a single leading rank, the que
en having the obligation of bearing the cubs that will continue one of the brother's bloodline. most of the time, she sp
ends her time within the rest of the pride, taking care of her own offspring or if she doesn't have any or it no longer n
eeds the female's intensive care, the queen will join hunts. the queen is seen as a guard of the pride, when her mate i
s gone patrolling, the lioness watches over the rest of the members and is given the total control when the dominant m
ale is gone. the queen can be described as the pride's feminine lead, portrayed as having more control over the lioness
es and the cubs than her mate.

prince/princess ─ the rank given to him/her that will be the future king/queen. it is trained both by its mother and fath
er on how to act as the future dominant lion. he/she inherits automatically the throne at birth. the prince/princess is d
etermined by the cub that gets delivered first. if the heir dies than the sibling will take his/her place.

royal youth(s) ─ if the king and queen had another cub alongside the one which will be given the role of prince/princes
s, then, until it ages enough to get a permanent rank. it doesn't become more respected than normal cubs.

subordinate males ─ the term used for the only males that can live inside a pride, except of the king. they aren't too ma
ny, around 5 of them per pride. they follow the dominant lion when he goes patrolling or marking the borders. usually th
e subordinate males don't get a lot of power, unless the king chooses to give them more than needed. subordinate males
are allowed to have mates of their own.

lead huntress ─ the eldest and most experienced huntress. the lioness will organize hunting parties, which means that s
he will establish the place where the lions will hunt, how many lions will go hunt, what lions will go hunt and what to hun
t. the lead huntress must have over 5 years of age and in the past she had to be a huntress. the lead huntress also will c
hoose a successor when the female will start feeling too old to continue hunting. after the successor she appointed get
s the lead huntress rank, the previous lead will only join hunting parties rarely and only through the current lead huntres
s's approval.

huntresses ─ the rank title explains it all. the lionesses that go hunt for the pride once they are old enough. from this gr
oup the lead huntress will choose a successor.

shaman ─ an elderly lion that is beyond wise. it is said that he can talk to spirits and has a profound connection with life.
thanks to that, he is the only one that can use herbs and knows how to treat sick lions. they are respected and often the
king will seek words of wisdom from the lion that has this specific rank. also, he is not allowed to have a mate of his own.

mothers ─ the lionesses that are pregnant or at the moment are taking care of their cubs. a mother will often take care of
another mother's cubs, acting sometimes as nannies for each other. this rank is only temporary, the lionesses that have thi
s rank will return at their previous rank once their cub(s) get big enough not to request their mother's help anymore.

youths ─ auto explanatory. the cubs of the pride. from six months to one year they start learning how to hunt and live on
their own, not being called cubs anymore, but still without a specific rank yet.

elders ─ auto explanatory. the eldest of the pride. elders are what once might have been kings, queens, subordinate male
s, lead huntresses and huntresses. they are a peaceful rank and respected one. they live their life sleeping and gossiping
and sometimes telling stories to the entire pride.

nomads ─ lions that don't belong to a pride. they are youngsters that are looking to challenge a king and win his pride o
r they can be peaceful lions that look to get a mate of their own. if they are found in a pride's territory they can be ki
lled by the king and the lionesses, but if they have luck they will just be given a warning with nothing happening to them.

─ territory❞

Postby maid of time » Mon Apr 23, 2018 12:29 am

─( umhlaba wamanzi ). its territory is mainly the swamp with the river (kakhulu uvalo) that leads to a big lake (ukuphila) that serves as watering hole for most of the animals. the main characteristic of umhlaba wamanzi pride's territory is the amount of water and vegetation that is found. the center of their territory is like a meadow, no trees or large vegetation, but with water surrounding you from everywhere. the southern, western and south eastern part of their territory is similar to a jungle, having more vegetation like mangroves and large bushes. while the north of their territory starts to fade to a more savanna and desert type of territory as it starts connecting to the other pride's territory.
the camp is found somewhere in the central and western part of the territory.

the camp is incredibly close to a branch of the kakhulu uvalo river that is in no way as big and strong. though the lions will rest a bit further from the possible danger, under trees that confer shadow for when it is too hot. the lions usually sleep anywhere, which means that they don't have dens of their own and will sleep where they will like it the most. but they do have claimed a few places, usually higher ranked or more respected lions will sleep in better places. the king and the queen sleep on a big flat boulder. the mothers and their cubs sleep together on a small gathering of boulders. the shaman is the only lion that has a den only because he needs to store the herbs in place. his den is dug in the dirt where is cold, keeping the herbs away from the heat from the outside. the den is large enough for the shaman to sleep in it and for another lion (in case if one has to be treated).

─( izwe elikhanyayo ). its territory is known for its vast and empty landscapes, the pride living in a more of a desert/savanna region. this means that they don't have a lot of water sources, especially main water sources that wouldn't necessarily dry during hot seasons. this makes the izwe elikhanyayo pride live in constant fear that they might not always find something to drink. instead, they compensate with the amount of prey found in their realm. they still have a watering hole (amanzi amancane) where the lions and the rest of the animals go to drink water. the eastern, western and southern part of their territory is a poorly vegetation filled region, with almost no lakes, only small ponds from place to place. the center of the territory is probably the most luscious part that the pride owns, the place where the most water sources can be find. also, in the horizon you can see the silhouettes of small mountains. the southern part of their territory connects the izwe elikhanyayo pride to the umhlaba wamanzi.

the camp is found in the southern central part of the territory, claimed for being one of the more prosper area. there are bushes scattered all along and tall grass that can hide the cubs from possible predators. the problem is that the nearest water source is the watering hole (amanzi amancane) that is more in the centre of the pride's territory. here lions sleep wherever they like, the mothers and elders sleeping in bushes, hidden from the deadly sun, while the dominant pair sleeps under a small tree that confers shadow. the shaman has a den deep dug in the ground, where it stores herbs and sleeps, without enough space for a second patient.

─ prey and predators❞

Postby maid of time » Wed Apr 25, 2018 2:01 am

Image

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

lions don't have a natural predator, their life is not endangered by any other larger species unless t
here is a confrontation of all sorts between the two species. each area as a specific predator and p
rey, but this doesn't mean that there will not be more than that in one's territory.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

─( umhlaba wamanzi ). since they live on more water predominant areas they have to deal with under
water predators. for example the crocodile is an often seen danger for the lion cubs. usually crocodiles
won't attack fully grown lions unless the predator will feel potentially harmed in any way or if the lion wi
ll come to close into his territory.

prey over here is a bit more rare. lions will live more on carcasses brought by other predators or fish
es from the streams and rivers. but on these big cats' list is also found the water buffalo. lions are sti
ll cautious around this herbivore. the buffalo's large size and dangerous horns can put the feline's life
in danger. but the price is payed by the large quantity of food it provides the pride, one water buffalo
able to feed 8 mouths. of course there are a lot of small prey like rodents of all sorts, zebras and cas
ually gazelles.

─( izwe elikhanyayo ). one of the most feared predator is the hyena. by itself, a hyena doesn't present
a great danger, a lion can easily take down one. but when found in groups, the canines can be a mess
to deal with. they are mean. they will easily steal food and badly injure lions. usually, when there is a
group of hyenas around, you retreat.

the gazelles are the main prey over here. they are swift and fast, making them hard to be caught by t
he felines. plus they don't make a good meal, serving only a few mouths. there is also a lot of small pre
y like rodents, but also zebras and water buffaloes.
