A large group of cats once dominated the land. No one
dared to challenge them and every outsider knew to stay
far from their borders. Their warriors were fierce with
undying loyalty. They trained their young from an early
age until they too were a force to be reckoned with.
The mountainous pine forest was their territory and any
that dared to oppose them were not yet familiar with
the strength they faced. They were known as Crestclan,
the cats of the mountains. But this would soon change.
Thrushstar, their beloved leader, received a message one
night from their starry ancestors. βGreat danger is on
the horizon. Be wary of those you trust. You must leave.
Go, quickly!β However, he wasn't the only one to hear
this warning. Someone else, a force unseen by the cats
of Starclan who lived among the shadows delivered their
own message to the deputy, Duskclaw. βThe time is
upon us. Do it now before it is too late.β it hissed.
And that very night Duskclaw slipped into Thrushstar's
den, undetected by any other than the shadowy figures
that surrounded him. Time stood still as he forced a
pawful of yew berries into his leaders mouth and muffled
his cries. In the blink of an eye Thrushstar was dead...
Duskclaw pretended to stumble upon his lifeless form the
next morning. He announced the tragic scene to the clan
and they spent the day in mourning. The medicine cat,
disbelieving Duskclaw's story, questioned him in front of
everycat. They were unsurprisingly met with shocked
stares and stunned silence. Duskclaw simply snorted back
at them, "I cared for Thrushstar the same as any of you if
not more. He was like an older brother to me. I remained
loyal to him and this clan, respecting his every order. Can
you say the same?" The medicine cat said nothing,
simply acknowledging his words. Unbeknownst to the rest
of the clan, the medicine cat had received the very same
message as their leader on the night of his death and
their deputies secret betrayal. They raised their voice
above the murmurs of the other cats, "Starclan spoke to
me last night. They told me of an unknown danger and
warned of a possible traitor within the clan. It is up to
you whether you believe me or not. But we are no longer
safe in these mountains." Many were unsure of who to
believe. Some remained loyal to their deputy and others
placed their trust in the medicine cats word. Suddenly a
thunderous crack split the sky as if Starclan themselves
had spoken. Far in the distance a storm had begun. None
of them knew what was headed their way...
