( ♛ ) - - ❝ ANASTASIA ! ! ❞
─────────────────────────────────
age. four years rank. paladin location. camp feeling. anxious tags. riggs, the gang
anastasia had been up long before most of the camp, and the sunrise had illuminated her glossy black and white coat as she strode through camp. ana was mindful of noise as she didn't want to wake the camp before they started their day. her white paws thumped on the grass with rhythm as she maneuvered through the bushes. the paladin collie quickened her pace to a sprint before she felt the wind running through her silky fur.
sprinting evoked a very enjoyable feeling inside anastasia. she loved the thrill of a run, which made tasia wonder why she hadn't considered a huntress position. but she lived to defend her pack. running up the slope, she paused at the top to admire the view, as the sun had made an appearance, and as the sky illuminated her brown eyes for a moment before she blinked and turned her head towards the camp's direction. she began her descent, however it wasn't long before a thunderous bam rang out in the distance. a few birds flew out from the trees in which they sat in. the sudden noise disturbed her tranquil state, and she yelped, and tripped over a loose stick and rolled over onto her side.
turning over, she peered through the bush and to the other side of the clearing. her ears were low and flattened as she narrowed her eyes to see better. her breath caught into her throat at what she saw. a man, with heavy clothing sheilding his skin, and loud boots that made a clear stomp at his every step. he looked quite menacing to the female, and the gun he held made the fur on tasia's neck rise with uncertainty. hunters? worry clouded every inch and crevice of her mind as she watched him. though she was so far away, she was holding her breath to avoid any sound to come from her.
her ears were perked, and her breath was fast as she watched him gather his things and storm off farther into the woods, and as soon as he was out of site, she turned, her tail moved out from in between her legs and she darted into camp, as the sun had risen and anastasia assumed most of them were awake. she ran into camp, panting from the long run she had previously experienced. relief flooded over the paladin female as she found alpha riggs and lilette, whom looked rather scared considering she was huddled very close to her father. anastasia fur had a few leaves stuck to her own pelt, but she dismissed those petty concerns for the time being.
"goodmorning alpha riggs, lilette. alpha, assuming you just heard that gunshot... i saw it happen," she said, while simultaneously breathing and dipping her head in respect. anastasia sat down a length away from the two, hoping for a clear order or words of knowledge from riggs.

He lowered his head to the white shepherd and nudged her shoulder reassuringly. "It's okay, Lillie. It was a human, far away from here," he said, his voice tender. The dog let out a sigh of relief that his daughter was right here. Riggs was careful not to show any sign of anxiety. He noticed the border collie enter the camp and the leader's head shifted towards the pack. What if somebody was out there? What if the shot was aimed at one of them? His brown eyes glanced at every dog, striving to check if everyone was in the camp. He couldn't see all of them, some dogs could've hidden in the den or bushes... hopefully. "Is everybody in the camp?" He asked loudly so that the whole pack could hear. If anybody was there and wasn't back yet, they could've needed immediate help. When Anastasia spoke to him, the brute turned to her, nodding his head. "You did?" Asked the alpha, his ears widening "Who was that? Did you get hurt? Did anybody get hurt?" Barked Riggs, ready to dart into the forest any second if she mentioned any dog stuck there. His optimism about humans coming back vanished in a brief moment. ◂ T O R O N T O ▸▛ ▘▘▘▘▘▘▘▘▜xxxsex ; female

Toronto woke up feeling dizzy and cold. She opened her eyes and blinked, her vision blurry. The fae was scared for a moment, but when her vision got better, she sighed in relief. She hoped it was nothing serious. It couldn't be. It will be okay. Everything will be okay. But Tori knew the pack rules. Every dog that didn't feel well should go to the healers immediately. And she wasn't going to hide her health problems. The golden retriever slowly rose up to her fours and on shaky legs left the den. She collapsed once, but quickly got up again, her eyes searching for Dalia, Lillette or Eden. "Dalia?" Asked Tori, tilting her head when she saw an australian shepherd. The fae sat on her haunches carefully, feeling that she could collapse again if she didn't rest.
Suddenly, Toronto heard the gunshot and her eyes looked around fearfully. She couldn't tell how far was it, it was so loud... Did others hear that or was it just in her head? The retriever glanced at other dogs to see their reactions.

anastasia regained most of her own breath, and intently watched the rest of the camp with her eyes, waiting for riggs to speak out on the situation. however, when he opened his maw, words shot out like rapid fire. worry dominated all of her feelings at that moment, and she was quick to reply. nodding at his first inquiry, she opened her maw to give word.
"it was, as assumed, a hunter. i'm not hurt, and nobody was with me," she muttered, her eyes darting back to the forest where it had occurred. though she wanted to keep up her strong appearance, she was very worried. what if his shot had been aiming in their direction? worry ran deep through the collie's bodice. what if more dogs were out in the woods? anastasia was very ready to run and find those dogs. she was a paladin after all.

the light shone in through the leaves, and kodiak blinked open his dark eyes as the sun's rays nearly blinded him. rolling over, he yawned and stretched his limbs, feeling the familiar crack and pop of his previously stiff joints. climbing out of his den cautiously, he rolled to his paws and shook out his fur, that was decorated with leaves that it had collected. as they fell placidly to the floor, he smirked with satisfaction and padded down a short slope, and took a moment to let the breeze soak into his thick fur.
however, his peace was disturbed by a loud bang from the distance. his eyes widened within the second and his head whipped around to the direction of the sound. his ears flicked and he padded off farther from his home. hunters? he thought, narrowing his eyes and huffing in fickleness. his den was well hidden, but considering the things humans were capable of, kodiak knew he needed to be vigilant. he had previously been a military enlisted dog, and he knew the drills. but why would they be out here? food was already scarce to begin with. kodiak became lost in his thoughts as he strolled through the trees in search of a meal, something he hadn't had for two days already.

as the rays of the sun hit her face, her eyes slowly opened. the warmth from the sun made her stretch and shifted more to the back of her small make shift den that was located under a tree trunk. her stomach rumbled once again which felt like the billionth time, she hadn't eaten in days. the young dog couldn't catch anything, anything large was too dangerous to take down by herself and anything small was either to quick for her. she stretched out as far as she could under the tree before slowly crawling her way out. she then shook out her brown fur before looking around her surroundings, there was nothing around that she could see that was out to get her or was watching her, no change at all. her body felt quite week today, possibly from not eating and she wasn't getting much from what she did catch or find lying around. with a yawn she made her to find a source of water.
xxxxxxxxxxxxshe dragged her paws through the earthy ground of the forest, her fur wasn't as nice as it use to be when her owners were around, she was struggling to keep it clean and neat. with a huff she came across the river, she dipped her head and lapped up the cool liquid, she lifted her head up for a few seconds too look around. she saw some deer a few meters down the river from her, they were curious of her and she saw they kept looking up at her. she didn't pay any attention to them, she couldn't catch any of them because they were too quick for her and they can kick out. she knew she was descended from the wolves but still she felt as the wolf side of her was gone, she wasn't like them. riley could not hunt or fight, she wasn't really good at anything but to be a loyal dog. she finished up her drink and looked around once again before seeing her reflection in the river, she was looking ruff not particularly herself with made her ears pinned back against her skull. riley missed her family, she wished things could be back the way they were.

xxxxxUnlike the rest of the sleep-driven members of her pack, Mabelle had gotten up quite early to fetch a few morsels of prey. She knew that prey had been scarce lately, and she didn't want anyone to starve. She had remembered that Anastasia had woken up fairly early, around the same time as Mabelle. She wasn't sure what she was planning to do, but she took no further thought to it. The nimble fae had crouched down, far beneath a few tall blades of grass, her belly brushing against the ground as she had began to lurk towards the new sight of a vulnerable deer in the distance. Once she had finally crept within reach of the doe, a gunshot had bolted in the same direction of the deer, as it collapsed to the ground without a single plea of protest.
xxxxxMabelle's eyes widened. She had recognized that sound from back when she was in the police force. She couldn't quite remember what it was called, but the sole purpose of the matter was that it killed anything it touched. It was toxic, almost like poison to the pelt. Right at that moment, Mabelle knew she needed to flee, but the human had neared her frame of vision, as she stood, frozen, behind the protection of the grass blades. She was going to leave, but not until she was sure he had left. For those few moments that felt like decades, she had to wait.

xxxTail wagging slightly in her sleep the merle shepherd dreamed of simpler times on her families farm. The days of herding cattle and helping out around the house, oh how she longed for the simpler times. "Dalia" called her owner arms reaching out to pick her up, only the voice didn't seem to match. Even in a deep dream her intelligence lived up to it's name and soon enough Dalia woke up in her nest, eyes filled with sleep. It seemed her name had been called in the waking world and the sound had leaked into her dream. Letting out a huff she cleared her eyes of sleep with her paws and then saw to stretching out her spine. Hours of rest quickly faded away with small cracks as she quickly became more aware. She moved her attention to the retriever in front of her, Toronto, who seemed to sway ever so slightly. She didn't need a word spoken to her as she slowly pieced together what was wrong with the dog in front of her. The slight dilation of the eye caused by an oncoming fever which was confirmed by walking closer to the dame. Heat irradiated from her and Dalia tilted her head, it was a surprise sometimes that the feeling of illness didn't wake up the infected sooner.
xxxStanding to a more formal attention Dalia sighed and let out a smile, "Come with me" she cooed moving to press her side against Toronto's. No doubt she would need the support to make it to the fallen tree. A sharp bang rung through the air abruptly and Dalia's ears perked, eyes wide as she scanned the came. Everyone seemed to have heard it but the bullet had caused no harm to her pack mates. Giving Toronto a light shove she encouraged movement, "Let's go" she woofed, eager to get Toronto into safety. If they were about to get attacked by a rabid human they would need the ill out of harms way. That being said, Dalia hoped that wouldn't be the case, it was an illogical thought, no doubt brought to her by anxiety.

He nodded, relieved that Anastasia wasn't hurt and nobody else was. But he still didn't know whether all dogs were in the safety of the camp. The leader turned to his pack members. "There's no need to panic, the camp is well hidden and humans aren't close," spoke Riggs with a calming tone. He knew panic was the worst, especially when it isn't needed "Tasia, could you and some warriors go to check whether humans aren't back in town? We need to know where the hunter came from," He asked the paladin "All today's planned hunting parties will be directed away from the area the shot came from" Said Riggs, glancing around the group of dogs to find the trapper, Jackson. They couldn't risk meeting the hunter "The rest of warriors will go and check the territory. If anybody sees the hunter, come back to the camp and notify us. If anybody needs help, howl. The humans might be friendly, but they also might be hostile." He added "Any questions?" Asked the brute and looked around at the canines. His mind was full of different thoughts. On the one hand, the humans could've came back to help them. Maybe they know the cure? Maybe they still remember their pets? But on the other hand, why would they come to the forest to hunt? Was it really the end? How much time did she have? What was going to happen? She attempted to make herself feel better. She was going to have her own den now... but Toronto didn't care. She hoped she could find real friends in this pack, but now everything seemed to be over for her. Her paws carefully made every step and she turned her head when the leader began to speak and mentioned the hunters. Excitement appeared in her chest, but then she quickly realised she wasn't going anywhere. She wasn't a hunter anymore. Tori took a deep breath and shifted her head away from Riggs, feeling like whatever he said now made no difference for her.

xxxHalfway through leading the golden retriever to the fallen tree they were slowed by Riggs beginning a speech. Keeping an ear out for what was to be said Dalia returned to the task at hand; leading Toronto the rest of the way. She wasn't blind; picking up that the announcement had caused her new patient some level of distress. Finally reaching the fallen tree she directed Tori to a nest, in her head going over what to try this time. She almost immediately turned to leave, pausing for a brief moment to speak some words of wisdom. "Don't stress too much just yet Tori; 15 percent of cases turn out to just be the common cold. It isn't guaranteed that it isn't the sickness but you've still got a chance." It occurred to Dalia as she turned to leave that she could have been more optimistic but it didn't serve anything to get a patient too excited. Speaking of excitement at the mere thought of tending to herbs her heart jumped a notch. She had been considering a new mixture of sage, echinacea, honey and lemon. Only recently had she started using the echinacea after a brave hunter who had been sentenced to a night in the town had brought back a bundle of the herb with it's roots intact. It was similar to daisy however in her test runs which she had performed on herself it seemed to do wonders.
xxxFor now, however, all that was needed to start was some chamomile, feverfew and willow bark. That would cover Tori for the first day and depending on how things developed tomorrow morning they would need to move to stronger medicine or continue on the same herbs. Ducking into the herb supply she pulled a piece of willow bark from the small shelves they had dug into the rock. She crumpled her nose as she felt that there were less than ideals amounts of willow bark remaining. She let out a snarl as she looked it over; truly today was not hers. The thought of going out to retrieve some herself made her hackles raise slightly and nose twitch. No she would ask Lillette to do it for her; it would be good practice for the future and something to keep the dame occupied once she got bored. Thinking that over Dalia conceded that it was more likely she would get bored first and end up attempting to go get it herself with the company of some guards. The longer she sat thinking about it the more her hackles raised and she backed away from the den. She needed to get the feverfew and chamomile first. trotting over to the side of the den she nosed her way through the herbs she had gone about planting through out the camp. As most of the herbs flowered at different times Dalia liked to think it gave their camp more life and vibrancy. On the same note she had spotted some of the hunters making a bed out of her hard work.
xxxPlacing down her willow bark Dalia plucked some dying feverfew stems from thinning bushes and placed them on top of her previously obtained bark. Turning her attention to the right was a blooming set of chamomile, bunched thick from having grown and self-sown in the same place. Without much of a thought Dalia snipped away at the white flowers, collecting quite a few in her maw. The taste of sap sat on her tongue as a pleasant reminder of her duties and without wasting much more time she settled the chamomile on top of the stack of herbs. A smile on her maw as suddenly the energy she had been lacking from an abrupt wake seemed to flow into her she picked up the stack and returned to the den of the ill. Slipping inside she set down the stack, tail wagging softly behind her. "Eat the green herbs you see there and whenever you feel pain or want to dull and discomfort chew on the willow bark until you've eaten it all. Think of it like a bad tasting bone and as for the green herbs, taking them faster is better than slower." Dalia chimed before settling down to watch her newest patient consume her medicine, "Depending on how you go with this I have a stronger mixture that is new, it may help a lot if things-" Dalia cut herself short continuing on, "If you begin to experience discomfort in your limbs as if you'd been running call me I have a mixture of comfrey, yarrow and foxglove which will ease any discomfort." Finally the dame calmed her voice and gave Toronto room to speak.

─ ─ GARDEN OF EDENx!!❞
i. female ii. four years old iii. herbalist, blanc/husky mix iv. tagged: dalia, toronto, lilette v. mentioned: the others
Eden had never been quite the one for startlingly bright mornings like these, when the sunlight would blind her eyes so she found it difficult to even walk straight. Not to mention when the traces of tiredness still clung to her. Yet it was these mornings she had to be grateful for, for no dog could be completely certain when they might fall asleep and never wake again. With the sickness creeping slowly up on the pack, they had to be vigilant and stay safe. Eden's blood ran cold as she wondered what horrors would befall the pack if the Alpha, Riggs, were to contract the deadly disease. For a fleeting moment, the pretty blanc and husky mixed female lay on her side, striking golden-brown orbs gradually focusing on the young oak tree she could see from the mouth of her den. The whistling morning breeze swept past and tickled her ears, blowing a few fresh green leaves onto her snowy pelt. She bathed silently in the timeless tranquility. Such opportunities were hard to come by recently.
All of a sudden, a ear-shattering gunshot rang through the air. Eden's muscles immediately seized up, her ears perked and body stiffened as she leaped to her feet. The ever vigilant Herbalist surveyed the camp intently but no dog seemed to have fallen. It had to be a gunshot from far away. Trying to regulate her rapidly thrumming heart, the tension eased a bit from her shoulders. She knew what that awful sound meant and brought about. Death. In no way painful and slow, but a terrible way to die in the cruel clutches of the humans. She had seen one death caused by this heartless object that raced at the speed of a swallow-tailed swift, propelled forward through a narrow barrel that would stare into the depths of one's soul like death's door. She pinned her ears back against her skull, gaze turned grim. She had to find Dalia for discussion.
As the Shaman and a fellow Herbalist, Dalia was a close friend of Eden's. The two often shared secrets of healing as well as put their heads together to whip up some new concoction. The ivory female knew that Dahlia had been working on a mixture of sage, echinacea, honey and lemon, and she too shared the Australian shepard's excitement in putting the herbs to test proper. However at that very moment, all she could think about was the possible threat of shooting and whether they had any herbs to treat those injured. Eden suspected oak leaf or marigold to stop any infection and a thick poultice of goldenrod blooms to heal the wound would not be strong enough, since gun injuries were unlike anything the dogs had seen before.
When Eden stepped into the Herbalists' patient den she instantly sensed something was wrong. Firstly, there were two scents in the den and the other apart from Dahlia's did not belong to any of the other Herbalists. Secondly, she could feel the unnatural body heat rolling off a dog's body in waves. The fever. But Eden, calm as she ever was, did not show her alarm and instead trod deeper into the den to take a closer look. It was Toronto. The shy goldie seemed to be busily consuming her medicine that Dahlia had already given her, yet if things turned out to be more dire than expected Eden knew they had to act fast with more powerful remedies. "Fever, Tori?" she asked sympathetically, casting a glance at Dahlia away from Tori's line of vision so she would not get unnecessarily worried. "That mixture should give you relief for today, but do return to us if you have coughs, any pains or belly ache," Eden advised gently. She slowly eased down on her haunches, her eagle eyes roving over the neat stacks of herbs in thoughtfulness. Earlier on yesterday morning she had prepared chervil roots which cured belly ache, daisies for aching, dandelion as painkillers and honey to soothe coughing and help dogs swallow bitter tasting herbs better. Eden had a skilled eye in organisation and artistry so she was mainly in charge of sorting out the herbs and making the Herbalists' den peaceful and pleasing.

anastasia watched riggs intently as he reassured the rest of the pack. afraid wasn't the word to describe anastasia, she knew. though she had never fully experienced being around humans, she had some suspicions of what exactly they were capable of. however when he began giving orders, she promptly nodded in a swift motion. though it was her duty to protect and guard the pack as a paladin, apprehension still caused caution whenever tasia was appointed jobs involving the city or humans. "will do, alpha riggs. should i start rounding up some warriors now?" she asked, searching riggs's face for a response.
with a turn of anastasia's head, she blinked in search of any guards or warriors that she could take with her on the job. while she did that, however, her mind was dancing with worrisome thoughts and exaggerated scenarios. though she knew overreacting over a situation would never help, but sometimes she just got carried away with her thoughts when things were happening at rapid pace. taking a rather deep but quiet breath, her facial expression read neutral while she awaited further instruction.
