☼ LIONPAW
────────────────────────
[ apprentice . feeling excited . tagged desertpelt, pineflower, swanpaw ]
Lionpaw shivered as she padded alongside her mentor, Desertpelt. The cold seemed to seep right into the young molly's bones and it didn't help that due to her stature the deeper drifts of snow were coming up to her chest. She was excited to be out on patrol, she only wished the weather was a little better. She perked her ears up and tried to keep up with the three other cats who were taller than she and seemed to be navigating the snow with ease. Along with her mentor was Pineflower and his apprentice Swanpaw who was her denmate. The two apprentices got on rather well due to their upbeat personalities as well as a shared competitive spirit. To be totally honest, Lionpaw was beginning to develop a small crush on the tom, but she would never admit that aloud. Her amber eyes flicked over to the snowy tom who almost blended in with the snow surrounding him. As they walked, Lionpaw scooped some snow with her paw and flicked it at Swanpaw, she tried to hide her grin and continued walking nonchalantly as though she'd had no hand in the lump of snow that had showered over the older apprentice.
An unfamiliar scent wafted to Lionpaw's nose and she felt her spine stiffen, she couldn't put her paw on what it was exactly but it felt dangerous to her. "Desertpelt, what's that smell? I can't quite figure out what it is and it's pretty faint, but I'm sure it's on our territory" she could feel her tail tip quivering with anticipation. It seemed like something interesting was finally going to happen. She tilted to her head, her ears flicking as she attempted to pick up any signs that could indicate where the smell was coming from. The molly kneaded her paws as she tried not to stay still for too long, the ground was still fairly cold and she didn't want her paws going numb in case she was about to spring into action.

----'---[ ☁️ ] SWANPAW▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬age thirteen moons | rank apprentice | Clan BrightClan | mood bright | location forest | tagged Pineflower, Lionpaw, Desertpelt
The air was bitingly cold, and Swanpaw could feel it even through his own thick coat. The partially-frozen snow kept cracking beneath his not-inconsiderable bulk, and the amount of times he had had to flail free from a particularly deep snowdrift did not bear repeating. He could no longer feel his paws and his eyes ached from the reflection of sunlight off all the snow around them, but despite all of this, Swanpaw couldn't help but relish in the nippy chill and recall all the reasons why he enjoyed leaf-bare.There were definite downfalls to it, of course, and he knew them all too well; the prey rarely emerged on days as cold as this, and there were always the illnesses and injuries that ran rampant around the Clan around this time. Nonetheless, he couldn't help but feel a fondness for the season despite all its faults. However much the snow could muffle scents and impair sight, he enjoyed stretching his tracking skills to the limit amid all the slush, and the sight of snow on the trees was always unmistakably pretty. His bright white pelt, too, was a distinct advantage in the territory for once, something that left him no small satisfaction.
From the faint scent of BrightClan territory markers and the familiar trees around them, they were fast approaching one of the Clan borders. Though Swanpaw usually preferred to sleep in on cold days like this, he couldn't find it in him to be irritated, especially with the beauty of the surrounding landscape. He headbutted Pineflower's shoulder affectionately before signalling with his tail that he would be further ahead. Before he could bound off, however, he was abruptly showered with a mound of unfairly cold snow, right down his neck. He let out an involuntary squawk and whipped around, only to see Lionpaw, valiantly attempting to hide her grin, pass right by him.
Being good friends with the young molly, he grinned as well and did not hesitate to bat over a snowball of his own, cuffing at her ear good-naturedly. He was just about to wrestle her into the nearest snowdrift when she suddenly stiffened and raised her nose to the air, tail quivering. He didn't know what she said afterward, but it didn't take a good tracker to realize that she had tasted something in the air, especially when said scent drifted over to his own muzzle.
Swanpaw narrowed his eyes and tasted the air for himself. It was faint beneath the still-falling snow, but most assuredly not stale, and not remotely catlike. He glanced uncertainly at the senior warriors and his fellow apprentice - from the questioning tilt of Lionpaw's ears, it was likely that she didn't recognize the scent as much as he did. It seems like it's coming from over there, he signaled to them, pointing with his tail toward the north border. We should probably go check it out. Despite himself, he felt the beginnings of anticipatory excitement begin to rise, and from the way Lionpaw was fidgeting beside him, she was feeling it too. He nudged her shoulder and beamed. Finally, something to do! he signed jokingly, trying to contain his eagerness.

───────────────────────────────
Tom. Warrior. 60 moons.
location: forest. tagged: desertpelt, lionpaw, swanpaw
───────────────────────────────
Leaf-bare had always brought Pineflower a sense of peace. Well, not the horrible conditions that accompanied the freezing weather-- the low prey levels, the sickness, the hard times that befell his clanmates rather brought him nothing but worry. However, Pineflower loved the atmosphere that leaf-bare created. The whole world quiet and blanketed with snow, that was what brought him peace. So when the classic signs of the change of the season presented themselves, they brought with them a small feeling of selfish excitement within the tom. Of course, the novelty always faded with time, especially when Pineflower was on patrol long enough to feel the cold seep into his bones.
While it was still early morning and not long after the patrol had left the relative warmth of their dens, this leaf-bare was already proving to be especially formidable and he was already thoroughly chilled. Cold typically was something he could handle, but at the moment it was too encompassing for him to even appreciate the beauty of his surroundings. If he was feeling cold, the apprentices with him and Desertpelt must be feeling it too, he figured. This caused a bit of worry to bloom in his chest, but then he felt Swanpaw's good-natured headbutt and watched as his apprentice played with Lionpaw, seemingly unaffected by the cold. I must be getting old... Pineflower thought with a slight sigh, his mood improving at the sight of the apprentices enjoying themselves.
Just as he was about to halfheartedly tell the pair of apprentices to focus on the patrol, the warrior caught wind of an unfamiliar scent and slowed his walking. Lionpaw called attention to it before he could, and he felt a flicker of pride for the apprentice's quick reaction. After registering Swanpaw's plan, he caught up to the apprentices as quickly as he could manage in hardened snow. He shook his head at his apprentice when he reached them, signaling him and Lionpaw to wait. One of the benefits of being among the oldest of his clan was the fact that he was experienced. This scent was one he didn't come across often, but he was sure it was that of a badger. He informed the apprentices and Desertpelt of this, trying to remember how to handle such a creature. The last he had heard of a badger was when he was a fairly new warrior. One of the members of the patrol that had encountered the predator was injured so badly he later died, and Pineflower's worry deepened. "With this snow being so difficult to navigate, we may want to avoid the badger for now... what do you think, Desertpelt?"

xxxxxThe atmosphere of the apprentices' den was calm and serene, it carried a silence. The prickly-pelted, grey molly's body twitched as she was in the midst of a dream, maybe it wasn't a dream. Maybe it was a nightmare... Her face appeared to be tense and her muscles tightened and softened suddenly, it might've been a nightmare. "Lunar!" Wolfpaw's ears perked up as she heard a seemingly close voice of what sounded like was a molly. Who was that? She wondered though she wouldn't be given an answer directly. "Lunar!" There it was again... The tone of this cat, or thing, was like they were in fear or agony. A sudden flashback flowed through the molly's mind and there she was, hiding in a blanket of undergrowth. The camp was no where to be found, only the strong scent of cat was present here. She didn't appeared to be taller than she was, even though she wasn't even that tall and was much more rather stubby while being an apprentice, it looked as if she had shrunk... Wait. Was she a kit again? "W-what in the name of Starclan!?" she muttered, her voice was soft and almost quiet. It was evident that she was definitely a kit again, but why? Who knows. The now sleek-furred kit took a glimpse of her surroundings, it appeared that she was in a small, rugged den of some sort; seeing the moss, lichen and tiny pine needles that stuck into her soft, pink paw pads.
xxxxxA scream of something broke out, it was quickly followed by growling sound that seemed like it came from a dog of some sort. Wolfpaw, or Wolfkit, realized that this scream was very close and was just outside of this nest. Quietly with soft steps, the kit peeked out of the undergrowth only to recognize one cat. They had a light, pale grey pelt and amber eyes, they looked familiar... The cat was currently being torn up by a dog, like she suspected and she could only watch in awe; stopping in her tracks, not daring to move a muscle. The molly turned its head towards Wolfkit, whom quickly recognized that this was her mother! The kit's eyes widened and she screeched out. "Mom!" The dog threw her body across the ground and turned its large cranium to face the frightened kitten. It suddenly charged at her, not giving her enough time to react as she felt the jaws of the canine swallow her entire head. She felt its teeth bite into her and then suddenly, there was nothing but darkness...
xxxxxThe eyes of the molly jolted open suddenly and she rose up into a sitting position, feeling her bones and jolts crack slightly though she just ignored. Looking around, she noticed that some of the fellow felines were gone and it appeared that they were already awake and out going along with the day. Wolfpaw's mind quickly came back to dream. Oh, how it escalated quickly... What a nightmare, it wasn't any sort of light dream that contained joy. The only feeling she had was fear. Just watching her once alive mother being torn to shreds by a giant dog was traumatizing, all the crimson colored blood pooling on the ground like paint. And the mutt had charged at her! And it appeared that she was killed... But that was long ago and it had happened she believed though she wasn't the one to die as well. Someone came and rescued her from her agony, and brought her into this clan BrightClan though she forgot the name of this feline as it seemed that they were dead or gone. She should've done something to help, she just should've... But how would she? Wolfpaw was just a tiny, vulnerable kit, Lunar, at the time and she wasn't fierce, she wasn't strong, she wasn't brave. She was just Lunar, a past personality of her that is forever lost in her mind. Wolfpaw exhaled as sigh and gazed at the ground, it was about time she had got up. The others, her mentor specifically, might've been waiting for her this entire time. She rose to her fours and slowly trudged to the entrance, it appeared that a former friend of hers, Smokepaw, wasn't stirred from her slumber yet. It wasn't like she was gonna wake her up, only to be smacked in the face with her dagger-like claws. No way that was happening. The light hit her face and she winced slightly and ignored, the daytime wasn't her favorite time and she highly preferred the night though many go to bed at that time... Which was fine she guessed.
xxxxxIt appeared that several clan mates were around, like she mentioned that some were already awake and up but she saw her mentor no where in sight. Wolfpaw wondered if she was still sleeping, perhaps. Hopefully she won't feel bothered with her going down to the warriors' den and waking her up herself, just staying out here had began to bug the molly and she needed to get out of camp immediately. She could stand being out here, just sitting around and being all awkward. Like she wasn't awkward enough! Wolfpaw shook all the thoughts out of her head figuratively and began to make way towards the den. She poked her head through the opening and peered around, the dimness of the den had made it slightly difficult to find her comrade. But then her eyes laid on the calico that settled in her bed. Wolfpaw had no intentions of actually going in the den and waking her up with a good shaking but instead she called out almost loudly. "Kestrelflight!" she hollered, though the apprentice received on answer. A growl formed in the depths of her throat before she called out once more. "Kestrelflight! Wake up, its time to go!" Hopefully she'll wake up now.

EMBERNOSE
╚══════════════════════╝
warrior :: molly :: twenty-three moons :: tagged; smokepaw, louddove
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
xxxxxEmbernose had woken up Smokepaw slightly early than normal, finding that they were assigned to the first hunting patrol of the morning. She knew that her apprentice would complain and be rather irritated, especially because of the large amount of work she and the other young cats had done the night before, but a patrol was an important duty to the clan, especially during leaf-bare. Embernose was often worried that Smokepaw didn't like her very much and would've preferred another warrior instead, or even her uncle at that, but the splotched she-cat tried her best to be a decent mentor to say the least and not as reserved. Starclan, please allow us to have a good hunt, the clan is very much so going to need it, Embernose thought to herself as she met up to Louddove, a fluffy snow-white tom and her Apprentice.
xxxxxThe tortoiseshell led patrol out, quietly pressing her paws against the snowy ground as she walked alongside her apprentice. She looked up towards the trees, heavy with snow on their branches, then gazed at where they were headed. The clearing had been one of the easiest places to hunt during leaf-bare, yet with both Embernose's and Smokepaw's pelts, surely they would stand out. When they reached the clearing, the she-cat came to a halt, just then realizing Louddove had fallen slightly behind. When Embernose felt him bump into her, she jumped skittishly forward, before meowing in her quiet voice, "i-it's okay, Louddove." Her amber eyes looked away from the tom to where three chubby mice were huddled around a snowy bush, trying to stay warm. "If Smokepaw sneaks up to those mice and chases them towards us, I think it'll be an easy catch...What do you two think?" The she-cat spoke in a soft voice, her quietness overcoming her voice again.
