Though he did well in hiding it, even Sparrowpaw could tell that Beetlepaw was at least the slightest bit excited about crossing the river. It was always an adventure traveling to a new place - he knew that better than anyone. But still, the thought of the river, however easy it was to cross, was still unsettling. The water itself wasn't a bother - he was a relatively decent swimmer - but rather its speed. Whether he liked it or not, Sparrowpaw knew he was large cat dry; drenched even more so. And being as clumsy as the tom knew himself to be at times (for pete's sake he'd literally JUST tripped walking), there was no telling how many chances he'd have to slip. Or stumble. Or, StarClan help him, knock ANOTHER cat off their feet.

But still, he trusted Moonsong's judgement, and Moonsong apparently trusted him to cross. The apprentice took a careful look at each of the cats with him, and in himself found a little more security. Beetlepaw was already very skilled - leaps and bounds above Sparrowpaw - and Cloudpoppy was the one who'd taught him. And Goldenfang? Well, he'd heard from others of the tom's bravery.

The river's gentle whispers were becoming one, continuous roar. Sparrowpaw could taste the water in the air, feel the air around beginning to cool as they neared their clan's strongest water source. This was it. Shaking out his pelt to steady himself, the apprentice looked forward for the end of the treeline that signaled their arrival. "I'd rather it that than something dangerous." he shuddered. Trying to distract himself from the small pit of nervousness in his stomach, the tom got close to Beetlepaw's side, whispering in his ear. "Cloudpoppy's so bright, I might mistake him for a fish when we're crossing." he jested, a smile on his face at the thought of fish for dinner.

The thought of more kits running around was...not necessarily bad. But with the Stormjaw's tongue, it wasn't as ideal to her as it was to Fawnheart. For all the griping Stormjaw had about being cooped up, Leafclaw knew she wouldn't hold it against her kits, no matter how much she enjoyed her life as a warrior over that of a queen. He snorted. "As long as they don't start calling me dad, I guess I could get used to it for a while."

When he really thought about it, the tom just couldn't imagine a cat as rough as him ever settling down. Living on clan territory, he hadn't many opportunities to actually woo a female that wasn't in the clan and most loners and rogues were quick to leave once they learned the area was already taken. After he'd joined, the desire hadn't really grown on him and, honestly, just watching all the kits grow up had been exhausting enough, even when he didn't have much to do with them. Hell, he remembered when Beetlepaw was still a kit in his mom's belly!

The tom sighed wistfully. Now? A lot had changed, and he'd only just realized how adopted he'd come to clan life when he'd actually left his home to follow a handful of cats into the unknown. Leafclaw stared hard at the two feeding kits, a strange look on his face. Maybe more had changed about him then he'd thought.

"You look like you're waiting for them to grow wings." he mused, ear twitching to the sound of songbirds. "C'mon, you need to get out of bed. Three moons is old enough for them to walk around camp just fine, and I'm going to go insane spending a moon just watching you all sit." The tom gestured over to the small fresh kill pile, determined to get the four of them at least to there. The stagnant air in the hole needed some airing out, and the sooner the kits were exercised the sooner they'd fall asleep again. If they stayed in camp they'd be safe, and there's no way Moonsong could punish him for simply being outside. It'd still be a few hours yet until he'd have to seek out Fawnheart and Cherrypaw. "Unless you'd rather waste away in here. Have you even eaten yet?"

goldenfang was patrolling quietly behind the two apprentices. the lush undergrowth was making him feel awkward. When he finally was out of a thicket, he had scratches on him. His golden brown pelt matted with sap and leaves. with a sigh, the tom gave up trying to avoid low hanging branches, and kept up. H

By the time the tom got to the eastern side, his paws were ready to fall off. His pads were cut and bloodied, though he didn't say anything. The leaves had come off him but the sap matted his fur. "We should split up and patrol thus area and meet back here and brainstorm where we but the marker." he said. He looked up and noticed it was just after sunhigh. Lookiing around, he saw more trees than he though could exist in one spot.

    Reedpaw
apprentice | location; forest | tag; Ravenclaw

Reedpaw admired the tall trees that cast long shadows. He breathed deeply, stepping quietly over a large stick that had fallen onto the ground. When he heard his mentor's question, the apprentice focused in on the scents of the forest. Since they were so close to camp, it smelled strongly of clan cats. Nothing else really caught his attention, there was an old scent of some sort of mouse, but that was really it. Flicking his tail with annoyance, he tried to concentrate more. There had to be something he was missing, Ravenclaw wouldn't ask him to say what he smelled if there wasn't anything around. And just like that, the apprentice caught a whiff of prey nearby. He paused, and glanced up to his mentor. "I think some kind of bird is over there" he whispered quietly, pointing to a nearby log with his nose.

    Foxpaw
apprentice | location; forest |tag; ferncloud

The small apprentice listened to her mentor, nodding at her instructions. She watched the molly bound from a stump to a fallen tree. Foxpaw took a deep breath, scenting the area just to be sure nothing was lurking about. The she-cat had always been wary about predators in the area, the forest just seemed too good to be true, some type of predator had to be out there. Shaking her thoughts away, the small apprentice bunched her haunches, and leapt onto the stump. Since the surface was mostly flat, the molly had no trouble landing on it. Remembering her mentors words of taking her time, she steadily turned to the fallen tree. Foxpaw wanted to make it perfect, thus she calculated where she planned on landing. With a large leap, the apprentice landed close to where she had wanted, and hooked her claws into the bark. Although her back leg slipped a little, she pulled herself up next to her mentor. "I slipped a little again, but I think that went well" she grinned.
