Sparrowpaw couldn't help but bat Foxpaw's shoulder playfully at her tease, grateful for some friendly faces so early in the morning. By the look and sound of it, Beetlepaw was thoroughly worn out despite it so early in the morning. He couldn't blame him; the tom had already made a name for himself with his responsible, more grounded personality and it was hard to believe he could relax with so much constantly needing to be done. It was admirable how on top of things he was.

As if confirming Beetlepaw's suspicions, Moonsong called from above the high root. Sparrowpaw doubted he'd get over seeing her up there, commanding all the cats around with such certainty. The tom took his spot next to Beetlepaw near the center of camp, ears open even if his eyes were still struggling. It seemed like all the warriors would be out of camp again, except for Leafclaw, and though curious the apprentice made no move to interrupt his mentor as she went to converse with the tom in question. He hadn't seen Eaglepaw yet, but it looked like he'd be off somewhere else for the day so hopefully his friend would show up soon enough.

Ferncloud was the first to call her apprentice away, and Sparrowpaw shouted a quick good-bye to her just as Beetlepaw took his own leave. "Ah, yes! I'll see you in a minute then!" he meowed, looking back to Moonsong. By Leafclaw's face, whatever she was telling him was not what he wanted to hear. Still, it wasn't his business, and soon after Moonsong was back on her feet and moving towards the forest. The others still had to catch up, but rather than start talking to the deputy the tom took his place slightly behind his mentor.

He shook his head and gave himself one final yawn to hold him over in another attempt to stay awake. They were going to be deep in unknown territory, he needed to be alert. Hopefully the walk would wake his muscles up, even if they'd be left a little sore.

Leafclaw knew something was wrong the second he heard Eaglepaw's name on patrol. His apprentice was off to help secure an area of the border. Without him. Honestly he can't say he was surprised, he was chewed out well enough yesterday but he'd already earned his share of clan discipline to know being told off wasn't the end of punishment if you weren't a kit. When he'd first showed up over a year ago he'd gotten into his fair share of squabbles and gotten enough disciplinary actions to be the talk of the nursery. But he finally settled in, gotten Eaglepaw under his wing, set himself straight. And he'd say he was doing fairly well if his apprentices progress was anything to go by!

Preparing himself for another lecture, the tom rose to politely greet the molly with a dip of his head. The courtesy was all he could give before he received in turn her judgement, his eyebrows raising and tail swishing irritatingly behind him. "A whole moon?!" he huffed. "C'mon Moonsong, I get I was out of line but Eaglepaw's already 10 moons and I -"he tried to reason, but just like that the molly was gone, solid in her decision despite the tom's bubbling argument. With little else to do than follow orders, Leafclaw let out one last huff and stalked his way to the nursery, eyeing the forest line where the patrols would depart with irritation.

Honestly was what he'd done so bad? It'd only been a small detour, he would've resumed the patrol with Eaglepaw after if it hadn't gotten so dark so quickly! Moonsong's word was final but for pete's sake did he really need a whole moon to think about it? Even worse, he'd be watching over Fawnheart and her apprentice like some kind of babysitter! Leafclaw shook his head. As much as he hated to admit it, it was no one's fault but his own; no use in getting peeved at facing the consequences.

Plus, someone did need to care for Stormjaw, Onekit, and Indigokit and Wolfpaw had other responsibilities. Resigned to his task, the tom walked across the small clearing to the nursery and poked his through the roots. Breakfast had already been served and Fawnheart already gone. Looks like he'd just have to find her and Cherrypaw later on his own, though he doubted he needed to watch them. Fawnheart was responsible, and still not too far along. Stormjaw on the otherhand...

"Looks like I'm all yours for the morning, Stormjaw." Leafclaw muttered, settling himself at the entrance to the den. Onekit already seemed awake, though it looked like Indigokit was still struggling. The tom wasn't used to being around kits: being a loner didn't give him many opportunities. "And how are the little monsters?" he chirped, resting his head on the dirt floor between his paws.

    Reedpaw
apprentice | location; camp | tag; Ravenclaw

The sleek apprentice continued to huddle by himself when Moonsong made her announcement. She was a good deputy, the best she could probably be after the whole tornado thing. He had quietly crept over to the side of the crowd of cats listening to her announcement. When she mentioned where he got to explore, Reedpaw's heart leapt a bit. He loved the thrill of training, or being able to sharpen his skills, no matter which ones he got to focus on. Although he was slightly disappointed he would not get to explore with the bigger group, he shrugged it off. One day it would come, where he would be able to prove himself. Yet, Reedpaw knew how young of an apprentice he was. Still only nine moons, he had so much to learn.
Almost immediately after the meeting was dispersed, the apprentice pricked his ears, looking for his mentor. He scanned the crowd, finally catching sight of him talking with Thrushfeather. His paws twitched, waiting for his mentor to catch sight of him. Despite being so ready to go, Reedpaw still couldn't force himself to go interrupt a conversation. After a few more seconds of waiting, he flicked his tail against the dirt. If foxpaw could see him now, she would just tell him to go ask his mentor when they could leave. He decided to get to his paws, and take a few awkward steps to where (hopefully) his mentor could see him better. He stopped and waiting, glancing at the pair of warriors, itching to go.

    Foxpaw
apprentice | location; camp |tag; ferncloud & apprentices

Just as Foxpaw opened her mouth to respond to the other apprentices, she noticed her mentor walking up to them. "Hey Ferncloud" she grinned, and got to her paws. The molly couldn't tell wether her mentor was displeased with her messy appearance, but she chose not to say anything about it. When she mentioned the west side, the molly perked up, but flicked her ear slightly when mentioning jumping. "Oh jumping, the thing where all four paws come off the ground at a time" she teased slightly with her mentor. Foxpaw frowned slightly, it was such a basic thing she thought she already knew to do. Yet, the apprentice swallowed her.... disappointment and shrugged it off. There were always more days to learn cooler stuff. She needed to be more respectful and listen to what the other cats had to say. Nodding her head in goodbye to her fellow apprentices, she followed her mentor towards the camp exit. On her way out, she spotted her brother. She gave him a large smile, before turning to head out.

wolfpaw rolled his eyes at stormjaw's response, though he found himself chuckling lightly at it and listened to fawnheart's response. hearing their answers, the medicine cat let out a purr. "well that's good, i'll get going now." he mewed, dipping his head and backing out of the den. hearing moonsong announce the patrols and generally what everyone was doing, he felt himself smile. she would make an excellent leader for gorgeclan whenever she decides to finally become one. he wondered who would be leader, perhaps leafclaw or maybe thrushpelt? he hummed to himself and padded back into the medicine cat's den to see that graydawn was awake. "good morning graydawn," wolfpaw said when he entered the den, "is there anything to do today?" he asked, though it seemed rather obvious they needed to go herb hunting; there were unlimited numbers of herbs out there and they only had the most basic, surely they would need something for when leaf-bare comes around and other things as such.

blossomsplash wasn't really having a dream, but still didn't like being accidently shoved against, causing her to stir and slowly wake up. the molly raised her head and let out a long yawn, her gaze not catching who the cat who nudged her was. the warrior let out a small mumble, and stood up, quickly grooming herself to look casual and exited the den just as moonsong listed off the tasks for today until the afternoon. as she heard her name being called, followed with thrushfeather and eaglepaw, she nodded. why eaglepaw was coming with them was beyond her, but didn't mind; the tom was very friendly. as the meeting was dismissed, she turned to thrushfeather who was a little bit away from her. "well we better get started," she said quietly, looking around for eaglepaw, and soon spotted the tom talking with his mentor. she guessed they could wait for a moment to see what his mentor had done, but she wanted to move on quickly. thrushfeather and her don't really interact, but she considered her a nice warrior so she was fine with this. after a few moments, she stared at eaglepaw as he continued to be by his mentor. what has leafclaw done now?

    tom | 36 moons | warrior | interacting with beetlepaw | camp
cloudpoppy entered the camp, just as he heard the deputy sound a meeting. terrific, he made it just in time. the tom trotted over quickly and sat beside the fresh-kill pile, dropping his mouse gently onto it and paying attention. he, moonsong, beetlepaw, sparrowpaw, and goldenfang would be setting up the final border line on the eastern side of the territory as it seems. as the meeting was adjourned, he stood up and began to look for his apprentice. beetlepaw was a very exceptional apprentice, very dedicated to his tasks and gets them done rather efficiently. he would make an amazing warrior, and wouldn't be lying when he says that he sort of reminds him of well...him! for a moment, the tom couldn't find his apprentice, but then spotted him at his side, and nodded with approval. he was learning very fast to be a mature tom. "good morning beetlepaw," he greeted his apprentice kindly. he was generally stoic but he always tried to be more open and kind to his apprentice. "i hope you've had a good rest? we'll be needing that energy today for training." cloudpoppy said, heading towards the exit of camp as he said so.

molly | 9 moons | apprentice | interacting with fawnheart | camp, forest
she got snapped out of it when she heard moonsong's new to signify a meeting has started. the young molly paid close attention, then beamed when she realized she was training today (as always). when the meeting was over, cherrypaw stood up just as fawnheart came over and nudged her towards the exit of camp which she happily obliged with. "good morning fawnheart! did you sleep well? sorry for keeping you up like that," she said instantly, voice brimming with kindness and positivity. fawnheart was the best mentor a cat could ask for, she always felt like she needed to prove her best to her. "what training are we doing today?" she asked happily, waving her tail as she trotted through the forest beside her, nearly tripping over basically everything as she didn't really know the layout of the land yet and constantly not paying attention. thus the daily cherrypaw.

"the clan still doesn't know the territory too well, you could be jumping over those rocks at the creek there, and fall." the molly gestured towards to creek. "of course, half of your joke was right- you do lift up your four paws. but, today i want you to try and land steadily. we need to be very stealthy foxpaw." the mentor calmly trotted towards the rock. putting her paws onto one, she lifted her forepaws and landed them onto the other rock as her hind feet lifted and landed onto the other rock. the rock was probably about a foot away and so ferncloud wanted to see how her apprentice would do.

indent!! c:"try it foxpaw. after you master this, we could try to do other cool things." she made sure that foxpaw would do something fun. jumping was a simple step and the basics were always important. "just try not to slip, these rocks could be a bit wet and slipping will just get you off track." ferncloud nodded at foxpaw as she gave her a tip.

{Onekit} - nursery - tagged {stormjaw, fawnheart, leafclaw}
As soon as Onekit took note of Stormjaw's signal of approval, he eagerly moved to step out of his bed to join them. A flutter of excitement showed by the way his ears perked up and the tip of his tail was twitching from one side to the other. The lifeless critter before him looked odd in appearance, there were no limbs or ears attached to its body other than a slim piece sticking out of its side that he assumed must be the tail. Even so, it had a delectable smell and it caused his mouth to begin salivating. He took another step forward to pause as Fawnheart came over to pick him up by the scruff. He only blinked in response to the familiar action, he couldn't count how many times a day it occurred and figured to just go along with it, finding the gesture to be somewhat comforting. She had placed him directly beside the kill. His purring motor suddenly kicked in from the depths of his throat as he lowered his muzzle to get a good whiff. Would it be considered impolite if he went ahead before Indigokit? An impatient huff erupted the course purring as he turned his head to look over his shoulder at Indigokit who still continued in her slumber. If it weren't for the horrendous nightmare he had, he would most likely be in the same lethargic state. But right now, the only thing on his mind was the juicy piece of meat on display before him, then again could you even consider it to be meat? He darted a precautionary side glance in Stormjaw's direction as to whether or not she was staring at him. He knew that if she caught him, he would definitely be in for a scolding. He quickly shook the thought away as he noticed Fawnheart gently croon for Indigokit to wake up. Onekit loved how nurturing the older molly was, it seemed her affection for both of them grew every moment she laid eyes on them. He struggles to recall the memories of his mother or any of his family, yet now it hardly ever crosses his mind and sometimes when he does ponder on it, Fawnheart's face seems to come to mind instead. "Get up already sleepyhead! Jeez, are you a bear?" He snorted, watching as Indigokit's form rose up from her moss bed. Fawnheart returned with Indigokit at her heels. Then all of a sudden, the older molly began to strip off individual pieces for him and Indigokit. As soon as Fawnheart backed away from the kill, Onekit lunged for the nearest piece to gobble it down. It tasted distinctly of the nearby river and the texture was comparatively tender. A loud purr erupted from him again as the adoring Queen ran her tongue across his head. "Th-k y--u!"He was too distracted to notice Fawnheart's remark.

{Indigokit} - nursery - tagged {stormjaw, fawnheart, leafclaw}
Incoherent words flitted through Indigokit's mouth as she slept, feeling blissful and at peace. The sensation was interrupted by a soothing voice emanating from above and tickling the hairs at her right ear. Giggling she sluggishly sat upright, blinking the sleep from her eyes she peered up at the Queen. "Good morning."She mewed. With a yawn parting open her mouth, she ran her tongue over her lips. "Real food?"Blinking she curiously began scanning the den until her eyes landed on something that closely resembled dung of any kind. Her muzzle scrunched up from the repulsive sight and smell. "What even is that thing?" Shaking her head she scurried behind Fawnheart, peering out from behind the other molly with narrowed eyes. She caught Onekit staring and stuck out her tongue,"Well at least I don't look like one! You big bear cub!"She looked over at Stormjaw for reassurance and was sadly disappointed. Swallowing down a lump of skepticism, she slowly crept over behind Fawnheart. She glared at Onekit as he greedily began indulging himself with the kills innards. Scowling she reluctantly plopped down beside of him. Relieved by Fawnheart's show of affection she courageously took a bite out of it and almost chocked on it from surprise. It was incredibly delicious!

indentBeetlepaw's only solace in Cloudpoppy's bringing up rest was the confirmation that his mentor hadn't seen him while he'd been sleeping outside of the apprentices' den. "Of course!" He said, like a bad liar. At least he managed to get the words out without yawning, as the last one was still trapped behind his teeth and wetting his eyes. When Cloudpoppy started walking towards the camp entrance Beetlepaw followed closely, not wanting to fall behind or appear drowsy in any way. The patrol seemed particularly important; deciding where to put the final territory border! This really was a warrior duty. The rest of their patrol was assembling as well, Sparrowpaw and Moonsong practically already in the thick of the forest. He considered striking up conversation with Sparrowpaw again, then reconsidered it, and again. He didn't want his attention to drift off while they walked and while he was so tired, but it was possible their mentors had something planned and wouldn't want excessive chatter. Things that could live in the forest, as well, might not appreciate excessive chatter. It was possible that their mentors had not being attacked by unknown predators planned, and wouldn't want excessive chatter.

When their patrol had assembled Beetlepaw nodded a greeting to Goldenfang and moved to stand slightly further from Cloudpoppy and slightly closer to Sparrowpaw. With roughly equal distance between both of them, Beetlepaw thought that he should be able to talk to one or both, and he wouldn't need to trot back and forth to keep his voice down.

To the east of camp was the river, and Beetlepaw assumed that somewhere beyond the river Moonsong wanted to lay their border marks. The river was out from under the cover of the trees, exposed to the sky, and with the water and danger of predatory birds it was more dangerous than other pieces of territory they'd seen thus far.

Cloudpoppy was a very bright white cat. Beetlepaw wondered whether he would win a fight, or an eagle. He didn't voice the question and he absolutely didn't snort. Instead he asked nobody in particular (though, given his train of thought, possibly Cloudpoppy), "How far over the river have we already explored?"

indentFawnheart left the den, calling back her affection for the kits in her care, and Stormjaw watched her back with poorly-masked envy. She turned her eyes away, believing her jealousy to be unfair to her friend and unworthy of a respected Gorgeclan warrior (though the feeling remained, sitting in her stomach and at the back of her throat like a trail of rocks), returning her attention to Onekit and Indigokit. Now that they had solid food in their faces, she felt like she needed to watch them very closely. Fawnheart had said that they could eat it safely, but Wolfpaw hadn't been able to answer her question before he'd been similarly herded out of the nursery and Stormjaw wasn't willing to take her eyes off of the little fuzzballs lest she miss some microscopic sign of distress which could be the difference between life and death.

Call her overdramatic, see what happens.

Indigokit's first bite of fish had the metaphorical stones in Stormjaw's throat bubbling up into her mouth, startled by the kit's reaction. When her worries abated Stormjaw gave Indigokit's ear a nervous lick, though it was more to reassure herself than the little one.

Leafclaw, upon entering the nursery, seemed like a gift from Starclan directly to her. Though he seemed about as thrilled to be stuck in the nursery all morning as she did, and also had minimal experience with the care of kittens, it was a second pair of eyes to help her keep them out of trouble. The tom slid down until he lay by the den's entrance. Stormjaw couldn't tell whether he did it because he was fed up or because he was taking into consideration the eye level of the kits while talking to them, but she chose to believe it was the second. "Well, they seem to be enjoying themselves. Moonsong brought us the fish and Fawnheart told me that they could eat it, but I'm still worried they might choke." More quietly, head dipped between the two feasting kits as if it were some great secret, she meowed, "Not that you've given me any reason to believe you will. You're, uh... you're doing great!"

Eyes still on the kits, she spoke again to Leafclaw. "So, is this about your little excursion yesterday?"

Sparrowpaw loved the forest. Adored it. Of all the landscapes he'd seen with his mother, the lush greenery and sounds of prey were the most soothing. Even better, he was working on border patrol so there wouldn't be any climbing, allowing the young tom to marvel at the soaring trees without worrying about scaling them. At least, not at that exact moment.

He didn't notice Beetlepaw shift closer to him, instead listening for the faint rush of the river they were moving in the direction of. Moonsong had taken him there when she'd first inspected it, and though she'd warned him carefully of the dangers in maneuvering it he couldn't help but stand in awe of its beauty and power. It wasn't necessarily hard to cross; not if you knew what you were doing. But it was still safer to view it as a backup option for hunting than a first choice, especially when the clan couldn't afford to lose any cats.

Lost in his thoughts, the apprentice jumped at Beetlepaw's voice next to him, stumbling a step as he tripped on a rock. "Oh - Moonsong wouldn't let me cross it when I was with her." he offered, scanning the ground for anymore obstacles. "It looked pretty fast when we saw it." To think they were going to do it today...he really needed to be focused. Even if he was a good swimmer, rapids were a whole other thing. "What do think we'll find on the other side?" the river was a nice barrier for whatever could lay beyond it: snakes, wolves, fires, anything could be waiting for them.

Leafclaw kept his eyes on the kits, half out of intrigue, half to keep him grounded in his frustrations. Of course everybody knew about it: there were plenty of ears in camp and with the lashing he got from Moonsong he would've bet his left paw anything in the TERRITORY knew about it. "You'd think I'd have gotten some leeway to pass judgement for things how long I've been here now." he mumbled, lashing his tail behind him.

As if on cue to ruin his already poor mood, the unmistakable sound of Eaglepaw reached the tom from behind. The warrior rose onto his paws and turned to face his apprentice, though by his body language he seemed to have already figured out what had happened. Before he could get out a word Eaglepaw had already turned his back and started towards his new mentors, looking less enthusiastic than he'd been before. Honestly, what hogwash.

Feeling more than a little guilty, but still mindful of his punishment, Leafclaw shouted after his apprentice's receding form. "Don't worry, kit, I'm not abandoning you on this! I better see some progress from you when you get your tail back here!" No doubt Moonsong had picked up some of it with how loud he'd yelled, but he couldn't care less. Eaglepaw was his apprentice and though he didn't doubt Thrushfeather and Blossomsplash's abilities (unlike him they had had a full apprenticeship and mentored experience) in the slightest, he felt like he'd failed the younger tom in his latest, though slight in his opinion, escapade.

Satisfied he'd done as much as he safely could, the tom let out one last sigh and, for good, settled back at the entrance facing Stormjaw. The kits seemed more enthusiastic about their solid meal, which was a bit relieving, but by the molly's intense gaze and response it must've still been a new experience for them. Honestly, the thought of Stormjaw having kits was still a weird concept to him. He'd joined the clan long before she'd become pregnant, and seeing the warrior cooped up in the den all day made him miss her snarky attitude on patrol. Not that'd he ever tell her that.

"What about your little...'excursion.'" Leafclaw countered, shifting to lay on his side. "I'm gonna get a fat and lazy for you waiting for them to pop out." A few more baby faces would be nice for lifting spirits, but depending on how many she had, and then Fawnheart later, well...

"Actually, I take it back. Try to...keep them in until I'm out. I don't do well with crying babies."

    Reedpaw
apprentice | location; camp | tag; ravenclaw

Reedpaw practically leapt to his paws once his mentor had found his way over to him. Ravenclaw had always been one of the young apprentice's favorite warriors. He was serious enough to due right by his clan, but also wasn't too strict. "That sounds perfect" the tom gave a small smile. Despite usually being so reserved, when it came to training, the apprentice usually came out of his shell a bit. He wouldn't be able to do anything truly great unless he was able to.... talk to other cats. As the two cats began their way into the forest, he took all the sights in. Early morning dew clung onto low hanging leaves, and every once in a while there was a sound of a bird flapping overhead. He loved it. Everything about being somewhere new, being able to explore made him even more determined to do well. Reedpaw kept a steady pace, eager to make it to their location even faster.

    Foxpaw
apprentice | location; camp |tag; ferncloud

Foxpaw smiled at her mentor, and flicked her ears. "Guess you're right... who knows? maybe one day someone could be in trouble and i could save them with my.... jumping skills" her nose wrinkled and she continued her pace to the creek. Once they arrived, she glanced at the few rocks that were in the creek. They looked smooth, but not too bad. She watched her mentor hop from one rock to another, not even quivering. Foxpaw took a few moments to plan out her next few movement. Then, she took her first move towards the first rock.
The apprentice managed to land squarely on it, all four paws at once. She then remembered how her mentor was doing it, quickly by putting front paws down, then back. Taking a deep breath, she began to make her way again. Foxpaw's managed to copy the way her mentor had done it, she made it across two rocks without any problems. At the third, she felt her hind paw slip a little on a patch of moss, and dunked into the cold creek water. Yet, she pulled her paw out quickly and landed next to her mentor. "Good?"

indentFor the sake of his friend's pride, Beetlepaw would pretend he didn't see Sparrowpaw trip. If he knew anything, the other apprentice was probably daydreaming about the forest's tallest tree, or something. He hadn't expected an answer from him, and Beetlepaw walked with his head twisted over his shoulder to watch his expression. He considered Sparrowpaw's words for a moment. Beetlepaw hadn't been over the river, either, but he'd thought it was because they hadn't had time between other duties. There might have been another reason that Cloudpoppy hadn't brought him there-- purposefully keeping him away. The part of him that wanted to be seen as a mature warrior though a moon yet stood between him and his aspiration took offense at the idea that he wasn't trusted with his own safety. He'd been told there were stepping stones. He could jump as well as any cat.

indentInstead of dignifying the thought with a response, Beetlepaw chose to address Sparrowpaw's question. "Maybe some hunting grounds? Or herbs! It'd be cool if we found something really important over there." There was a skip in his step for all of a second before he reigned himself back in. Shooting a glance at his mentor and the clan's deputy, Beetlepaw straightened his posture and amended, "But it might not be anything. We don't want to get too excited, it could be dangerous."

indentShe chanced glancing up from the kits when Leafclaw turned back to the den's entrance, calling after his apprentice. She hadn't considered fully how Moonsong's punishment would impact Eaglepaw, and Stormjaw was almost angry on the toms' behalf. She was a full-fledged warrior, she didn't need a babysitter. In a handful of weeks, she would be a permanent babysitter. For better or worse. A shiver ran from the back of her neck to the tip of her tail. The tabby returned to his position on the ground, and Stormjaw stifled laughter at his supposition.

indent"You could take fat and lazy from me, I've had enough of lying around in here." She cast her gaze around the nursery, one ear on the kits at her paws, "By the stars, you could give birth for me if you really want to. Believe me, I won't mind." And then you could raise them, and I could go back to living my life. This she kept to herself, though an exasperated huff of breath left her nose. She knew how precious kits were to a clan, of course. She even knew how strangely attached she was to the idea of them now that they were an undeniable part of her future; there were just too many variables she couldn't control. It would be moons yet before any kits she had were old enough to leave the nursery, subsequently for her to leave the nursery. Stormjaw returned her attention to Onekit and Indigokit, finding them both in one place, their eyes correctly in their skulls and breathing as she should have expected. "If you're here for more than a half-moon, I'm afraid you aren't going to miss them, Leafclaw."
