Sparrowpaw couldn't help but bat Foxpaw's shoulder playfully at her tease, grateful for some friendly faces so early in the morning. By the look and sound of it, Beetlepaw was thoroughly worn out despite it so early in the morning. He couldn't blame him; the tom had already made a name for himself with his responsible, more grounded personality and it was hard to believe he could relax with so much constantly needing to be done. It was admirable how on top of things he was.
As if confirming Beetlepaw's suspicions, Moonsong called from above the high root. Sparrowpaw doubted he'd get over seeing her up there, commanding all the cats around with such certainty. The tom took his spot next to Beetlepaw near the center of camp, ears open even if his eyes were still struggling. It seemed like all the warriors would be out of camp again, except for Leafclaw, and though curious the apprentice made no move to interrupt his mentor as she went to converse with the tom in question. He hadn't seen Eaglepaw yet, but it looked like he'd be off somewhere else for the day so hopefully his friend would show up soon enough.
Ferncloud was the first to call her apprentice away, and Sparrowpaw shouted a quick good-bye to her just as Beetlepaw took his own leave. "Ah, yes! I'll see you in a minute then!" he meowed, looking back to Moonsong. By Leafclaw's face, whatever she was telling him was not what he wanted to hear. Still, it wasn't his business, and soon after Moonsong was back on her feet and moving towards the forest. The others still had to catch up, but rather than start talking to the deputy the tom took his place slightly behind his mentor.
He shook his head and gave himself one final yawn to hold him over in another attempt to stay awake. They were going to be deep in unknown territory, he needed to be alert. Hopefully the walk would wake his muscles up, even if they'd be left a little sore.

Leafclaw knew something was wrong the second he heard Eaglepaw's name on patrol. His apprentice was off to help secure an area of the border. Without him. Honestly he can't say he was surprised, he was chewed out well enough yesterday but he'd already earned his share of clan discipline to know being told off wasn't the end of punishment if you weren't a kit. When he'd first showed up over a year ago he'd gotten into his fair share of squabbles and gotten enough disciplinary actions to be the talk of the nursery. But he finally settled in, gotten Eaglepaw under his wing, set himself straight. And he'd say he was doing fairly well if his apprentices progress was anything to go by!
Preparing himself for another lecture, the tom rose to politely greet the molly with a dip of his head. The courtesy was all he could give before he received in turn her judgement, his eyebrows raising and tail swishing irritatingly behind him. "A whole moon?!" he huffed. "C'mon Moonsong, I get I was out of line but Eaglepaw's already 10 moons and I -"he tried to reason, but just like that the molly was gone, solid in her decision despite the tom's bubbling argument. With little else to do than follow orders, Leafclaw let out one last huff and stalked his way to the nursery, eyeing the forest line where the patrols would depart with irritation.
Honestly was what he'd done so bad? It'd only been a small detour, he would've resumed the patrol with Eaglepaw after if it hadn't gotten so dark so quickly! Moonsong's word was final but for pete's sake did he really need a whole moon to think about it? Even worse, he'd be watching over Fawnheart and her apprentice like some kind of babysitter! Leafclaw shook his head. As much as he hated to admit it, it was no one's fault but his own; no use in getting peeved at facing the consequences.
Plus, someone did need to care for Stormjaw, Onekit, and Indigokit and Wolfpaw had other responsibilities. Resigned to his task, the tom walked across the small clearing to the nursery and poked his through the roots. Breakfast had already been served and Fawnheart already gone. Looks like he'd just have to find her and Cherrypaw later on his own, though he doubted he needed to watch them. Fawnheart was responsible, and still not too far along. Stormjaw on the otherhand...
"Looks like I'm all yours for the morning, Stormjaw." Leafclaw muttered, settling himself at the entrance to the den. Onekit already seemed awake, though it looked like Indigokit was still struggling. The tom wasn't used to being around kits: being a loner didn't give him many opportunities. "And how are the little monsters?" he chirped, resting his head on the dirt floor between his paws.
